“We the People”

Those are the first words of the U.S. Constitution. Not “We the Corporations” or “We the Wealthy”. Of course, the framers weren’t exactly interested in equality by race; they weren’t even interested in keeping wealthy interests out of politics. When they spoke of “the minority”, they meant rich people.

But let’s face it: our modern attitudes and beliefs have changed. We now see that slavery is wrong. We see that average people should have power over the government that rules their country. We see that being a woman or being without property isn’t a good excuse to be without rights.

We are a country that has been built on diversity and difference. Jazz, one of our most precious forms of art, grew out of the roots of African American music. The first rail line spanning the continent was largely built by Asian immigrants. Women helped us win the second World War. We have thrived because of our diversity.

Today, however, the struggle is not over. Corporations and wealthy citizens still maintain a stranglehold on our politicians and government. Policies favor these interests, instead of the common person. Racism continues to detract from the opportunity, success, and well-being of some of our citizens. Discrimination continues to occur for people in the LGBTQ community. Voting requirements prevent some lower-income people from voting. Many people must work multiple jobs, because the government refuses to recognize the necessity of a living wage. And organized labor has been decimated, to enhance the ability of governments and corporations to exploit their workers.

Meanwhile, Conservative media outlets like FOX News and various radio shows try to sell us these broken policies. They tell us that difficulty with finances means we’re not working hard enough. They tell us that being gay or transgender is a lifestyle choice and thus equality is both unnecessary and undesirable. They basically ignore the murder of citizens in minority groups by those who are meant to protect us, while simultaneously trying to tell us “All Lives Matter.”

Enough is enough! Bright World is here to speak for the Progressive movement. This podcast will fight back against corruption, intolerance, and bigotry. It will espouse the only values that can pave a just way forward – equality, economic opportunity, and political power for the average person.

We the People shall unite to help craft the Bright World that we all dream about.
