One of the biggest challenges facing young business women today is that they have limited role models. Now imagine the role model limitations faced by an African American woman in a predominantly latino city.

My guest on the podcast this episode conquered these challenges to become the CEO of an impressive advertising agency in Texas (among a long list of other accolades). But, she’s now just patting herself on the back. She’s making a concerted effort to be visible in the community so that young women and girls have what she didn’t have - a role model.

Leslie Wingo is President and CEO of Sanders\Wingo, a full service advertising agency with offices in Austin, El Paso, Atlanta and New York. Her company has handled major brand accounts including State Farm, AT&T and KFC. She’s received numerous career accolades, is considered an advertising industry leader, and serves on multiple charitable boards.

In this episode of the Brilliant You Podcast, we discuss the prejudice that so many minority women face in their careers and how to call it out. Leslie shares her strategy for dealing with people who may not be aware of their bias by bringing their attention to it with compassion.

She shares why having diversity is so important to a business - especially if it’s a creative business that is fueled by inspiration and unique perspectives.

And finally, she turns one of her current challenges into an action every powerhouse woman in business should master. Especially if you want to hold onto your power in the face of making a mistake.

By the end of this episode, you’ll have an understanding of the immeasurable value of diversity in business, know how to turn accountability into a power play, and why we all need to step out of the shadows and be role models.
