Good morning theater fans! I'm Caryn Robbins with The Broadway Scoop for Thursday, February 13th.
The six wives of Henry VIII take the stage of Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre tonight to begin preview performances in the new musical SIX, ahead of an official opening on March 12. The show originated at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival before going on to a West End run and earning five Olivier Award nominations, including Best New Musical. SIX made its critically-acclaimed U.S. premiere in Chicago last July.
Dave Malloy's NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 is now available for licensing to professional theaters through Concord Theatricals. Based on a 70-page portion of Tolstoy's epic novel War and Peace, the musical premiered at Broadway's Imperial Theatre in 2016, marking the Broadway debut of Grammy nominee Josh Groban. It went on to earn 12 Tony nominations —the most of any show that season.
And BE MORE CHILL made its UK debut yesterday, beginning performances at London's The Other Palace Theatre. Featuring a Tony-nominated score by Joe Iconis and a book by Joe Tracz, the musical's 2015 cast album took the internet by storm, leading to a sold-out, extended off-Broadway run in 2018, followed by a 2019 Broadway production which played over 200 performances at the Lyceum Theatre.
And that's The Broadway Scoop for Thursday, February 13th.
