Good morning theater fans! This is Caryn Robbins with The Broadway Scoop for Monday, February 17th.
Caissie Levy and Patti Murin, the original stars of Broadway's FROZEN, took their final bows at the St. James Theatre on Sunday after playing the roles of Elsa and Anna respectively since 2017's pre-Broadway engagement. As previously reported, actresses Ciara Renée and McKenzie Kurtz will take over as Arendelle’s newest royal sisters beginning February 18th. Also departing the production yesterday was Joe Carroll, as Hans and Chad Burris, as Olaf.
AMERICAN UTOPIA, the hit theatrical concert event from former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, concluded its extended Broadway run at the Hudson Theatre on Sunday. However, the production will return to the Broadway venue for a limited run from September 18 through January 17, 2021. As previously reported, Oscar winning director Spike Lee has filmed the production for future release.
And tonight, Manhattan Concert Productions will present the 50th Anniversary Celebration of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall. The one-night-only presentation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical will star Broadway veterans Eden Espinosa, Alex Newell and Jessica Vosk, sharing the role of "Narrator," and former DEAR EVAN HANSEN star Noah Galvin in the title role.
And that's The Broadway Scoop for Monday, February 17th.
