First, how can you define “authentic self?”

An article on the HuffPost defined it this way:

“There is another level of identity that is the real, true, genuine substance of who you are — your authentic self. That is who you are at your absolute core. It is the part of you not defined by your job, function or role. It is the composite of all your skills, talents and wisdom.”

My guest today is James Dawson who is an entrepreneur who has built a landscaping business in Oregon. Life hasn’t been easy for James; he had abusive parents and has struggled with mental health issues that came from that abuse. 

James doesn’t hide from the truth of his situation. Instead, he is willing to be is authentic self and appropriately share his story with his customers. This creates trust and develops his business's reputation.
