In this introductory episode, our cohosts, Mobeen and Matthew, discuss how the podcast team selected the Season 4 theme “Rebels with a Cause”.  Coming out of the pandemic in which unprecedented change was the norm, the podcast team chose to seek inspiration this year from those health leaders who, day to day, defy the norm.  Leaders who continually challenge conventions in pursuit of personal, organizational and health system transformation and change.

Like every season, our hosts “set the table” during this introduction and review the framework that guides the conversation with guests in each episode.  In Season 4, Francesca Gino’s five elements of Rebel Talent, the traits of change makers, serves as the framework for dialogue in each episode.

The format of episodes is explained – two episodes per guest.  The first episode explores, through lively conversation, the rebel trait – diversity, perspective, curiosity, novelty and authenticity.  The second episodes show cases two contemporary academic papers through which the trait is explored by each guest.

The season brings listeners inspiring stories from visionary leaders who are shaping the future of health care.Season 3 of Built to Lead focuses on how we can intentionally propagate joy as leaders. Focusing through the lens of Dr. Martin Seligman's PERMA model, Mobeen and Matthew interview leaders in North American healthcare systems and have joyful conversations about joy.Season 2 of Built to Lead profiles the seminal work of Dr. Henry Mintzberg and explores the mindsets required of contemporary leaders in health - namely, the reflective mindset, the analytical mindset, the collaborative mindset, the worldly mindset and the action mindset. These leadership mindsets are revisited with Dr. Mintzberg and explored through the eyes of a diverse range of contemporary leaders in Canadian health care. The inaugural season of the Built to Lead podcast is entitled “Leadership: From Self-Doubt to Confidence."
