Canary P.I is a fun, not-so-serious audio drama of one-off ghoulish mysteries in a 1930s-40s noir setting. It’s got some depth to balance out its wise guy bravado.
Private investigator Canary is up for investigating any spectral mystery provided there’s a big fat check. He doesn’t seek out the weird and wily; the cases come to him like a New Yorker to a New York bagel.
Each episode follows a different case, where we get to experience a different flavor of Canary’s quick sarcasm. Apparitions of jewels, the lamentful tale of an immortal werewolf, disappearing cargo on the sea. . . the tales have scope and shifts in tone. But overall keeps up its candid tone with wisecracks too fast to know what hit ya.
I enjoyed the imaginative, somewhat simple scooby-doo mysteries. But I love the use of language: quick and meaty like a well-pressed panini.
