Johnny Cash has been described as an ‘American Icon’. The singer-songwriter was the embodiment of the American dream, growing up dirt poor during the great depression, but eventually rising to country music stardom, selling over 90 million albums. Most people know who Johnny Cash was, and they even know a few of his songs – Hey Porter, I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire. However, most people probably don’t know quite as much about another aspect of Johnny Cash – his faith. Though Cash’s life was riddled with drug use, family problems, and slumps in his recording career, he himself once stated that his faith in God was always a solid rock that he stood on. But was his belief in the gospel genuine, or was it a façade? Johnny Cash earned an Associate of Theology degree in 1977, but did he exhibit the fruit of the Spirit to back up this little known fact?
