Honestly, I cannot get over how much fun this is to listen to. The hosts do such a good job of being tongue-in-cheek (pun intended) while also being respectful and non-judgmental of the titular topic. I found myself hungrily awaiting each new episode. So well done!
Come on, be honest with me, we all enjoy a bit of cannibalism. That strange, morbid curiosity with the taboo of eating human flesh. Could you eat someone if your survival depended on it? Or sacrifice yourself, give up your bodily flesh to help others? Throughout history tragedy and unfortunate events have led countless people to contemplate these very questions. So often those put in this most difficult of position hold on as long as they can – it’s the last resort, the final act of desperation. But sometimes it only takes a few days and too much alcohol – looking at you Medusa crew! The fabulous Casting Lots podcast explores this curiosity with cannibalism, specifically focusing on survival cannibalism. Well researched and brilliantly presented the hosts are clearly passionate about the subject and bring a sense of humour to proceedings that lift what could otherwise be a very dark topic, but never do they seem disrespectful. The stories they’ll tell you are among the most terrifying, tragic and unfortunate of events, those of people driven to the limits of desperation. Yet somehow you’ll come out both laughing and thinking deeply about the events and people such is the job Carmella and Alix do with the storytelling.Don’t be put off by the macabre subject matter, this is a must listen podcast for the tales of the extremes of human existence.
