On April 26, 1991 55 tornadoes touched down in 5 states across Tornado Alley. In today's episode, I cover the only F-5 of the outbreak that impacted Haysville and Andover, suburbs of Wichita, KS. I also talk about an F-4 tornado that hit Cowley County on the same day, which I remember, as it passed just a few miles from where my family was in shelter. I recall the aftermath of that from my personal memories, although I was not quite 5 years old.
Below I will share links to videos and articles I reference in the episode. Any mistakes are my own, and I look forward to possibly doing a second episode on this storm with some more personal stories as well as any information I can find on the victims that shed some light on who they were. I chose to read their names for several reasons. One reason being that I don't want them to be forgotten. This storm did massive damage at about half a billion dollars in today's money, but it also took fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, and children who are still missed by their families today. And it's not my intention to use them for any type of personal gain, my intention is simply to recall the very human element of this disaster.
