1998 was the year of one hit wonders.
Look it up, its simultaneously staggering and insane.
For some reason though, one song stood out above the rest for me.
When you combined the visuals of the New Radicals video for "You Get What You Give" with the song itself- you get a ready-made timepiece that signified the culmination of that decade's style through the vessel of a song that sounded nothing like that decade.
To this day, I get butterflies in my stomach everytime I see that video- more because of the chaos in the mall atmosphere, so perfectly captured, and it's ability for me to reconcile my own feelings immediately with that moment in time.
This is why it is such a good introductory piece in this special bonus series of Caught on the Mike episodes called: Timestamp.
