In every single state, black mortality outpaces white morality for Covid 19. This is attributed to many socio-economic factors; however, one key component is the relationship between the African Americans and healthcare community. One such phenomena to describe the relationship has been coined 'the Tuskegee Effect'

At the dawn of the 20th century, many American physicians were concerned with the spread of syphilis. However in 1932, Dr. Clark and his colleagues from the Public Health Service, wanted to further understand the final stages of syphilis, where they subsequently deceived  600 poor black sharecroppers in Macon, Alabama to become subjects of their study at the Tuskegee Institute.  Their main focus? To investigate how the disease would evolved without medical intervention. The study was originally designed to last for 6 months, but went on for 40 years.
