Does a person’s career determine if you will continue with the relationship

A friend was in a situation where her mum refused the man she wanted to get married too all because he is a solider, her excuse is “ He would always be away and they die on time because of the war” she doesn’t want her daughter to be an early widow

So my question is should a persons career stop your relationship?
