“No vacancies,” the sign on the inn reads. And though Jesus comes into the world in a crowded, unexpected place, God makes room. God is always making room in crowded, unexpected places. That’s what Jesus’ birth story is about – God making room for great joy to break in beyond our boundaries, for awe to push past the limits of our expectations for welcome to be extended in unlikely places to unlikely people. This Christmas Eve, how does God invite us, too, to make room for him in our crowded lives? How does God make room, even when we think there’s none to be found? The good news of great joy for all people is coming.
