Ever leave home without your cell phone? Did you leave it behind on purpose, or leave it behind in a moment of distraction? Now and then I jump in the car to run an errand, or even to come to the church, and leave my phone laying on my desk at home. It was next to my keys, so I’d remember it. And then,  there it lays, forgotten. While I’m without it, I find myself checking my pockets, and wondering what I’m missing while I’m “disconnected.”

Texting, emailing, social media, phone calls, news feeds … it all gives us a sense of connection. And when we’re honest about it, we see that these connections are often superficial, artificial, contrived, and even dishonest in our efforts to look good for ourselves and others. This week in worship we’ll continue our “Unhurried” series with a conversation about authentic connection: deep, honest connection with ourselves, with those around us, and with God.
