Decemberby Dollie Radford (1858 – 1920)
No gardener need go far to findThe Christmas rose,The fairest of the flowers that markThe sweet Year's close:Nor be in quest of places whereThe hollies grow,Nor seek for sacred trees that holdThe mistletoe. All kindly tended gardens loveDecember days,And spread their latest riches outIn winter's praise. But every gardener's work this monthMust surely beTo choose a very beautifulBig Christmas tree,And see it through the open doorIn triumph ride,To reign a glorious reign withinAt Christmas-tide.
