DDV's Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar is a daily listing of events in history until this day. It was first published in 1985. It involves no audio, but for your pleasure we include a video from a 1985 sculpture by DDV."Carruga" was a large sculpture for the "Automobiënnale>" at the Middelheim Open Air Museum in Antwerpen. It was first used in a basic version for a performance during AMVK's 1983 exhibition "Hoeren en Profeten". For the Middelheim exhibition a large metal cage was added, and a real Deutz diesel truck engine was captured inside. During the 100 days of the exhibition, the engine was left running in the otherwise quiet park. After the exhibition several attempts were made to find a definitive spot for the sculpture but all of these failed. In the end DDV ripped the metal cage to pieces in the late 1980's. When the initial Club Moral premises were abandoned in 1993, "Carruga" finally ended in the trash. All that remains is a short VHS video movie with noise soundtrack by DDV.

Every page of the first edition of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar listed 7 days and one picture. There was a reviewed copy of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar in 1987 and an update with new entries only in 1988. The 1989 edition of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar was an 'all-memorials' issue, listing only events that happened 5, 10, 25, 50, 100,.... years ago. The 1990 edition of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar listed only events about 90 killers and was subtitled "90 Killers for the 90s". The 1991 edition of the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar listed only events about artists, musicians, writers and filmmakers. The 1992 -and last- edition was an index and listed all names and the days they appeared until then in the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar. Today the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar is a huge database file with 8817 entries about 5511 people; 2405 births, 1998 facts and 4414 deaths. The database has been used in 1998 by V2 to build an 'unreliable website' for their "DEAF" festival, subtitled "The Art of the Accident".

The Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar has been available throughout 2007 as a daily blog on When I was Buying You a Drink with additional photos taken by DDV in the past eight years. Between 1999 and 2007 DDV has taken over 25.000 pictures with various digital cameras. On this blog he posted one picture every day, taken on that specific day in a random year between 1999 and 2007, as well as a listing of all the events for that day.You can search the Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar blog for a certain day by using the "Blog Archive" on the right hand side of the page, or you can search for a name, a place or whatever by using the search box on the top left of the page and clicking "Blog Search".

The Birth(+)Fact(x)Death(-)Calendar blog will not be updated and remains on the Blogspot system "as is".

The title from the blog was taken from a song by the Mekons,"When I Was Buying You a Drink Where Were You ?"
