Today’s book suggestion is another book from my collection and its called Shadowshaper by Daniel Jose Older.
This is a YA urban fantasy novel published in 2015 and I was drawn to this book because it’s written by a Latino male author and I was really looking for books written from this perspective, so if you know of any others please send me a message!
So this book tells the story of a Sierra, an Afro-Boricua teenager living in Brooklyn who must learn about her spiritual heritage of Shadowshaping, which is magic that infuses ancestral spirits into paintings, music, and stories.
This book sounded super cool and I can’t wait to read it this summer. I had the chance to hear Daniel speak as a moderator at BookCon this year, and he’s really funny!
So, short and sweet, that’s my suggestion for today.
