Back in March, when COVID-19 hit the world, Jenny pulled out her sewing machine and made masks for hospital workers, friends, and most importantly her family.

She felt tremendous satisfaction from re-using cotton fabric and extra elastic from her stash. It wasn't until she personally wore one of my homemade masks that she smelled a slight odor from the cotton. She got so caught up with the movement towards mask wearing, that she forgot to consider the source of the cotton and elastic.

This led her to scouring the Internet for all the eco-friendly, organic cotton, and sustainable masks available.

While research shows that fabric masks are not as effective as N95 or surgical face masks at preventing disease spread, health officials around the globe, like the World Health Organization (WHO), agree that wearing a cotton reusable masks is definitely better than not wearing anything at all. Don’t forget to wash them thoroughly after each use, and as always, our advice is not a substitute for medical advice.

Our 3 Choices/Take-aways for this subject are:

1. Wear a mask

2. Be responsible with your mask. If disposable, throw away in the trash. If fabric, wash after each wear.

3. We’re all in this together. Let’s have grace and give each other some space.
