On my last episode of the first season I sit down with Trymaine Gaither. He works for Washington State University for the Honors College as a Recruitment and Career Coordinator and M.E.S.I. Certificate Program Coordinator (Mindfulness-based Emotional & Social Intelligence). We sit down to discuss Environmental Injustice as a nationwide issue. Trymaine opens up about his personal experiences with Environmental Injustice along with his journey becoming an activist in his hometown. Trymaine's exposure to mindfulness as a means to discuss racially focused topics has aided him in his personal growth and career. The MESI program that Trymaine is apart of is an amazing tool to navigate these difficult and uncomfortable conversations focusing on racial injustice. How we confront an issue whether it be fighting for the clean water or civil rights, starts with the proper response. Rather reacting to a situation, through mindfulness we can create a more self aware version of ourselves. Begin to recognize our triggers and fears and only then can we begin to empower and enlighten. Enjoy and Aloha.
