Watching the blooper reel is always my favorite part of the show and being blooper real is always the way to connect with others.

Hi Friends! I’m excited to tell you today about a party my mom had when I was a kid. I helped her get ready. The tall people were coming and we had to clean the top of the fridge. And when we got done, everything was perfect. The guests arrived, the tall people checked the top of the fridge, and we partied.

The problem is that when we got part way through the party, all of the lights went out. I meant out. No electricity. Thankfully, mom’s food was all cooked so we had that going for us; but, now what? We’re all sitting in the dark. So, mom & dad quickly went into action and they pulled every little card table & every little junky table we had and they put them around the icing room and our living room wasn’t very big so it was pretty cramped. And everybody sat around and played cards by candlelight. It was, honestly, in my opinion, the best party my mom ever had.

Have You Ever Asked Yourself

  • “What if my party doesn’t go off perfectly?”
  • “What if my jello turns to soup?” (Who serves jello anymore?)
  • “What if things don’t go exactly right?”

Being Blooper Real

Now that you’ve thought about these possibilities, I’d like to help you rethink them. So, let me help you rethink these inconveniences and let’s just get real… blooper real.

When something doesn’t go quite right at your party, I like to call them “memory makers” because that party that night that my mom had changed my mind forever on what a party should be. I wouldn’t say I hope mistakes happen; but, I kinda hope mistakes happen.

One time I invited some friends over and I, uh, fixed them a real nice dinner (gator tot casserole with canned soup). We were sitting around beforehand and, first thing, somebody notices there’s a bra in the Christmas tree. You know how it is, girls, you come home from work. You’re tired. You are exhausted and you want that bra off and as far away from you as you can get it! So embarrassing. So, so embarrassing; but, I’ll tell you what, My friends don’t remember what I served for dinner that night and they probably don’t remember what games we played. But, I’ll tell you what they do remember. It’s the bra in the Christmas tree. And we’ve had so many laughs over that night all because I took my bra off and forgot and flung it across the room.

So, go forth my friends. Go forth and be blooper real and accept the mistakes.  Accept the mishaps and the things that you can’t control because those make the very best parties.

Today I Want to Leave You With This Thought

  • When we focus on everything being perfect, we kinda care how WE look.
  • When we serve, serve, serve, serve, we and we don’t really talk to anybody very much or we and we miss a few friends in the group we wish we would’ve chatted with, we’re really caring about THEIR experience that night to make sure it’s perfect for THEM.
  • But, when we make mistakes, when things happen beyond our control, when the lights go out, or when the bra’s in the Christmas tree that CONNECTS people.

So do that. Let that happen. Just let it happen. Take down your guard and the whole thing is that when people come over what they want to know and what I want you to know… you belong. You belong.

And we can celebrate and laugh together, that just cements it, man. That is the best way to connect with people is through our mistakes or through the things we have to handle that are out of our control and we have to get through them together.
