1:50

1:52

1:55

portal, Palooza, They've been going

1:57

live on YouTube all the way since ten

1:59

AM eastern time. We will

2:01

be, you know, popping over there around one

2:03

PM eastern time to offer the

2:06

whatever expertise we can to

2:08

this extremely revolving

2:10

door. Oh, in here before we get

2:12

out of here, we are going to discuss you

2:14

know, some of the notables that we've had here

2:16

on this Monday morning, I think it is not

2:18

crazy to say that by the end

2:20

of Monday, hundreds of

2:23

college football players. We'll have

2:25

entered the transfer portal just

2:28

today. Maybe

2:30

it's gonna be thousands buzz

2:32

it's Deion's. A a wild,

2:35

wild day when it comes to personnel in

2:37

college football. Again, our partners at

2:39

twenty four seven portal got an into the full

2:41

livestream going wall to wall coverage through the

2:43

day that we will get to a little

2:45

bit of that here. Of course, as you

2:47

see from the video title, We're

2:50

gonna be breaking down our favorite bowl games.

2:52

Our own Tom Fearnelly ranks every single

2:54

one of them. Danny and I have some that we wanna

2:56

highlight as well, so we will be breaking down

2:58

the best bowl games, the one that Deion's you

3:00

want to make sure that you don't want

3:02

to miss. But let's start with some

3:04

coaching news because there's a

3:06

man who

3:09

we have referenced as

3:11

hot cedar fields. You

3:13

know what is one of the best ways

3:16

to cool down the pants? to

3:18

change him. So Satterfield,

3:21

introduced as the next head coach

3:23

at He takes over a program

3:25

that Luke Fickle has leveled up into

3:27

now one of the best in the American conference, and

3:29

it is a program that is making the move

3:32

to the big twelve conference beginning

3:34

next year that is now

3:36

a power five job.

3:39

Before we get to the Louisville side of this,

3:41

Danny what's the obviously,

3:44

c plus and, you know, Tom,

3:46

obviously, I have no idea how it will work

3:48

out. But when if

3:50

you were Scott Satterfield, do you

3:52

do you like this move? Do you think that this is a good

3:54

opportunity for him to restart the clock?

3:58

I mean, if you I'm assuming

3:59

he's getting a raise. Right? You're not going

4:02

to take a lesser pay. And

4:05

you're a e competitive I

4:07

don't know about the details, but buzz

4:09

I think the most important thing you've said

4:11

is per like, the of

4:13

the clock, the perception of you,

4:16

as opposed to getting fired.

4:18

And then you're kind of, oh,

4:20

this guy got fired. If

4:22

you leave of your own accord, I

4:24

think that's a better move all the time.

4:27

Yes, you would like to be able to stay and turn that

4:29

narrative around yourself. But if

4:31

you can change it and leave when you

4:33

can, I mean, let let's be honest. This

4:35

relationship has been dicey ever since he

4:37

flirted two years ago -- Mhmm. -- with an and

4:39

to I mean, he was he was a little

4:41

too honest with everybody by

4:43

putting that out there, but

4:46

it just seems like the relationship has been

4:48

fractured since then. Yeah.

4:50

If you can parlay this season

4:53

where, you know, if it was eight and four, I think we're having a

4:55

totally different conversation, but it did come up

4:57

short of that. in that loss to Kentucky.

5:00

If you can parlay it, but Buzz see here's the

5:02

thing. I don't think since better

5:04

job, buzz I think it's the smart move for

5:06

him to make. Does that make sense? Oh, yeah.

5:08

Without a doubt. Yeah.

5:10

No. It's

5:12

it's

5:13

strange. It's unexpected, but

5:15

at the same time, it's not surprising. Because

5:18

like you were saying, this is He's

5:20

interviewed for other jobs. It has felt like

5:22

for the last couple of years that

5:25

if another opportunity arose

5:27

that Satterfield found desirable,

5:29

he was probably gonna jump at

5:31

it. Unless things went like, things changed,

5:33

it went really well at Louisville because I I

5:35

don't know what it buzz, but clearly,

5:37

he was never super happy

5:40

with the probe being there after he took the job.

5:42

So I think with Cincinnati

5:44

moving to a power five, that obviously

5:46

helps make it more likely to happen because you're not

5:48

going from AP5 job to AG5

5:50

job anymore. You're you're gonna be joining the big

5:53

twelve. You're joining a team that has shown.

5:55

It can get to the college football playoff.

5:57

Now we it there's an uncertain

5:59

future

5:59

about it in the big twelve because you don't know what

6:02

it's gonna be like in that entirely new landscape.

6:04

But It's

6:05

good for Satterfield. I don't

6:07

know if it's the most logical hire on Cincinnati's

6:10

part.

6:11

he Like,

6:12

again, it's a good hire. I have no

6:15

idea if it'll work out. But when we were talking

6:17

about candidates

6:19

for this job after Fickle left for Wisconsin,

6:21

I thought there were a lot of really good names that made

6:23

a whole lot of sense. And nothing

6:26

against FAU, but for Tom

6:28

Hermann to end up at FA you

6:30

when Cincinnati was available. That tells

6:32

me Cincinnati wasn't all that interested

6:34

in Hermann. And

6:35

just my own personal preference, I

6:37

would rather have Tom Hermann than Scott

6:39

Satterfield who I like, but it's not as

6:42

if he was lighting the world on

6:44

fire at Louisville. This is a program

6:46

where but if you surveyed the Louisville

6:48

fans right now, I don't think

6:50

they're going to be that upset by this. a,

6:53

because they didn't really seem to like him

6:55

that much, and b, because of

6:57

who they likely have their eyes on to replace them,

6:59

who they've wanted for a long time. So

7:02

I don't know. It is it is a it was a unexpected

7:04

thing to move to wake up to this morning. It

7:06

cost me to adjust my bowl rankings

7:08

because let's not work anyway. Fenway

7:11

Bowl is between Cincinnati and Louisville,

7:13

and I don't want to Scott things, but the Fedway

7:15

Bowl took the weekend. We've been the rankings

7:17

this morning. Who

7:18

would you rather who would you rather have?

7:21

Brian Hartline or Scott Satterfield?

7:24

Brian Hartline. If

7:26

I'm Cincinnati, I would I'm

7:29

with Tom. I buzz I there is

7:31

an inexperienced factor you don't know.

7:33

buzz I think the upside could

7:36

potentially be higher. Would

7:38

you rather have Dion or Scott Satterfield? I

7:42

don't

7:45

know. We'll get we'll get to Dion in a second. We'll get

7:47

to thoughts on the first twenty four games

7:49

that we talked about, which is kind of the Tom's

7:51

point. Like, if you're a Cincinnati

7:53

fan, you thought you were in the market for some

7:55

of these coaches, which I think at

7:57

the opening press conference would infused

7:59

a lot more life and energy into a

8:01

fan base where I'm sure Cincinnati

8:04

fans probably googling real quick, you know, you

8:06

know, who Scott where's he been? What's his

8:08

record been? What's okay? Let's look at a story.

8:10

Like and I think it might be, again,

8:12

c plus. So, like, might be

8:14

workout or might not. it might

8:16

be a great fit, but I just feel

8:18

like the react it's gonna be a

8:20

little bit of an uphill battle form to win over

8:22

some of those fans. And by the way,

8:25

Luke Fickle set set an incredibly

8:27

high bar and now

8:29

you have a different bar

8:31

that you're trying to get to Buzz the

8:34

expectation is you better get ten eleven wins every

8:36

year. That's what Luke Fickle brought you, and it's gonna

8:38

be a lot tougher to do that in the new landscape.

8:40

Yeah. Like, Seth's getting off the hot seat in

8:42

Louisville, but now he's the guy following the

8:44

guy. And that's never a fun

8:46

situation to be in unless you have success right

8:48

away. But the good news is, depending

8:50

on where he lives, since taking the

8:52

Louisville job. He might not have to move.

8:54

It's not a very long drive between

8:56

cities, between Louisville, Cincinnati. he

8:58

he's always had that that home in North

9:01

Carolina. Remember? It's like -- Oh, sure. -- like,

9:03

well, I got family back there so, you know,

9:05

always always gotta keep it open.

9:07

The move itself reminded me a little bit

9:09

of Dana Holgerson, who was not

9:11

fired by West Virginia, but

9:13

left to go take the Houston job.

9:15

And I don't have as clear view

9:17

of comparing the West Virginia and the Houston

9:20

job, but it was literally, like, your

9:22

contractor's not going to get extended

9:24

anymore at West Virginia, and you go

9:26

sign a new contract. And at Louisville,

9:28

I don't know, you know,

9:30

Satterfield had a pretty good recruiting class

9:33

I imagine buzz not going to, you know, hold

9:35

together quite as well. Unless,

9:37

you know, depending on how quickly they can move

9:39

to replace him, you know,

9:41

he had probably the the sand was

9:43

starting to run out of the hourglass, and now

9:45

he legitimately starts with

9:47

an entirely full you

9:49

know, brand new contracts, brand new set of

9:51

expectations. You know, he moves ahead

9:53

stays ahead of the firing squad from

9:56

Scott perspective in his

9:58

own career. I understand the move. I

10:00

think Louisville is a better job. I think

10:02

Louisville is a better job because that you've

10:04

got more resources. I think that when you

10:06

look at that community, they treat the

10:08

both the football and the basketball programs,

10:10

like the professional pro the

10:12

professional franchises of

10:15

the City of Louisville. I think their

10:17

NIL operations probably well

10:19

stocked. And, nope, seems

10:21

as though Cincinnati is gonna have

10:23

to really ramp that up. to

10:25

be able to compete in the big twelve.

10:28

So you are, in my opinion,

10:30

taken maybe a lateral

10:32

to half step down going from

10:34

Louisville Cincinnati. But what you are doing

10:36

is you're buying yourself the more

10:38

years of being at the power

10:40

five level which is more money and

10:42

at least a fresh opportunity to be able

10:44

to restart and see if you can have some

10:46

success there. With the Bearcats program, that's

10:48

in a that's in a much better place than

10:50

it was when Fickle took over for sure.

10:54

So so now oh, got something? I was

10:56

gonna say though,

10:57

are we I I agree with you as far as

10:59

passion. There aren't many colleges

11:01

out there that on both the football and basketball

11:04

side that have more passionate fan bases. This is

11:06

Louisville. We know they have boaster

11:08

money and booster buy in that has helped, you

11:10

know, fuel some crazy times in both of

11:12

those programs. But it's also the supports there

11:14

when you need it. And typically, as long as

11:16

you're winning, whatever you need, they will

11:18

work to get for you. But I do I

11:20

don't think the gap between it and Cincinnati

11:22

is that significant, particularly now that

11:24

Cincinnati is joining the Big twelve.

11:26

And also that if you just look at the future

11:28

of the Big twelve, again, we don't know

11:30

it's gonna look like, but you can also argue

11:33

Cincinnati's got a much clearer path to the playoff in

11:35

the Big twelve and Louisville's ever going to have

11:37

in the ACC.

11:39

Maybe, I

11:42

mean, it's it's re reset time in the

11:44

big twelve. Alright. So what about

11:46

Louisville? It's is

11:48

is this gonna happen? I

11:50

There's no way he says no twice,

11:52

says Tom. I don't think so. Yeah. I I don't think there

11:54

is. I mean, I I have no insight

11:56

information here. This is just pure

11:58

speculation. But if you're Jeff Brom,

12:00

you already said no to Louisville once

12:02

because the timing just you

12:04

had a very talented roster of guys

12:06

you recruited at the time that were still there,

12:08

and the ceiling was pretty high. And it kinda

12:11

culminated this year with a Big Ten West

12:13

division title. They just played an Indianapolis for

12:15

the Big Ten Conference Championship.

12:17

Are you gonna say no to him twice?

12:20

Like, are you gonna take the risk of sitting around for

12:22

another few years and still thinking that Louisville's

12:24

gonna come ask you a third time if

12:26

you say no again? especially

12:28

knowing that if you look at the big ten with

12:30

USC and UCLA coming in, the

12:32

conference is likely gonna do away with

12:34

divisions. Maybe it won't. Buzz

12:37

what are the odds for dude's getting back to a big

12:39

ten championship game at any point in the next few

12:41

years? What are the odds that he's gonna have a

12:43

more successful season as far

12:45

as accomplishments with the boilermakers than the

12:47

one he had this year. Like, this is

12:49

he's done a fantastic job at the program.

12:51

He has taken like, that place was down

12:53

in the dumps for a while. And

12:55

he's kind of he's made a a good

12:57

team. He's made a good program. He's made the

12:59

the program that, like, you know, displayed for conference

13:02

title. He's recruited well. He's

13:04

gotten the facilities improved. He's played a big

13:06

role in that. But is he

13:08

taken it as far as he can realistically take

13:10

it and the appeal of going, quote

13:12

unquote, home to your all the modern as they

13:14

come calling for the second time. Like,

13:16

I there is a chance that with the

13:18

money disparity between the big ten and

13:20

ACC, he says, Well, I got

13:22

it. You know, I'm just I can get I can compete

13:24

more here. I can get better things. I can you know,

13:26

in the NIL transfer portal world, I'll have

13:28

more resources available to me here than at

13:30

Louisville. But if Louisville

13:32

is somewhere he truly loves

13:34

and wants to be, I just

13:36

don't see him saying no twice. I don't think he's

13:38

gonna care as much about all buzz this

13:40

stuff because as we talked about, at Louisville,

13:42

if you're winning and you

13:44

want something, they'll get it

13:46

for you. Do you

13:49

I think this

13:51

is something where I don't know Jeff Brom's

13:54

inner workings. I don't know his inner desire.

13:56

Some some people, you

13:59

know, you

13:59

go to college

13:59

place even if you played there.

14:02

Alright. So, I mean, the

14:04

best job is the best one. You know, I don't

14:06

care. Other guys, you know, bleed

14:09

Garnet and Gold or you're a Michigan

14:11

man through and through. I

14:13

don't know. I think fans wanna believe

14:15

that every coach that played their, like, bleeds

14:17

the colors of the university. There's a

14:19

lot that goes into this. It's a big

14:21

decision all of

14:21

which you just mentioned, Tom, I

14:24

would say if you're looking at like,

14:26

I know they're doing away with Deion's, but

14:28

who do you think is gonna get multiple teams in

14:30

the playoff? once we expand.

14:32

And, you know, I I I'm

14:34

really concerned about the ACC

14:36

and about you

14:39

know, is is Louisville one of the teams

14:41

if they start dividing revenue

14:43

and doing a revenue share type of system

14:45

as opposed to equal payouts

14:48

to all the ACC schools? How does that impact

14:50

Louisville from the football standpoint?

14:52

So that's a bit of a question mark.

14:54

So if you're

14:55

looking at from Stroup, like, I

14:57

hate to admit it as an ACC guy, and I

15:00

think this is something that you know,

15:01

commissioner Phillips needs to look at as a

15:03

as a sign of concern, but from

15:05

a a health standpoint of

15:08

what kind of resources you're gonna have and

15:10

what kind of access you're gonna have to the playoffs

15:12

and just coffers that you're gonna be able to pay

15:14

players?

15:16

I I think you stay at Purdue. I

15:18

mean,

15:18

look at the transfer portal today. The conference

15:20

of quarterbacks is dwindling pretty

15:22

quickly in the quarterback department. Oh, he's

15:25

to that and just see a conference of quarterbacks.

15:27

It's I I was like, I

15:29

understand that I have ACC bias. But

15:31

as I was making my list of of notable

15:33

quarterbacks, like, Jeff Sims, they're

15:35

like, are these all these all

15:37

ACC quarterbacks, but here's

15:39

my thing on prom. From

15:43

Louisville,

15:43

mobile

15:44

like, was an assistant at

15:47

Louisville. You know, the

15:49

the times that he comes back in the off

15:51

season and he has his He he

15:53

always stops by and he always talks to

15:55

all the Louisville high school football

15:57

coaches. He still got a really good relationship.

15:59

with lot those high school football coaches will

16:02

remember the way that he's been able to go into

16:04

Kentucky and pluck out some really good

16:06

recruits and be able to get them to Purdue.

16:08

I don't know exactly what coaches would

16:11

consider the clock also these

16:13

days, but this was his sixty

16:15

season at Purdue. you know,

16:17

that's in in the modern

16:19

era, that that's a long

16:21

time. By the time you get to, like, seven,

16:23

eight or so, either,

16:25

you know, you've established yourself as like an

16:27

all timer for the program or

16:29

fans are gonna start to a little restless.

16:32

Tom, you mentioned they just played for a big ten

16:34

title in Deion's. Like,

16:36

is is that as good as it's going to

16:38

get? Can you look purdue

16:40

in the eye and just say, like, look,

16:42

this has been an incredible experience.

16:45

But I I think I think that we've done what we

16:47

can do here and now is

16:49

the time. The timing almost feels

16:51

perfect for Bahram to be able

16:53

to make this romantic emotional

16:56

decision to a job in

16:58

a conference that is lesser in terms

17:00

of resources that will probably

17:02

have less teams in the college

17:04

football playoff. But to one where you were to

17:06

be able to activate that university and

17:08

that city to get whatever you need.

17:10

There will be no pushback

17:13

on admissions. There'll be no pushback

17:15

on resources. Any

17:19

obstacles are gone just

17:21

by the name mentioning the name

17:23

Bahram around the Louisville community.

17:25

So I I would understand it. I

17:27

feel like it might be done by dinner. Does

17:29

Malik Cunningham have another year of eligibility

17:32

left? Would you would stay

17:34

just because Bahram would

17:36

unlock a amazing I'm just No.

17:38

Just selfishly, I would really like to see Malik

17:40

cutting hand play for Jeff Brown. I would really

17:42

like to see what they did together

17:44

because I think that would be very

17:46

entertaining. Other

17:47

sort of coaching news here

17:49

in the last forty eight, seventy

17:51

two hours. We've got North

17:53

Texas firing Seth La Trail.

17:56

Liberty hires Jamie Chagwell

17:58

officially, Portal, eyeingNC

18:00

Scott offensive coordinator Tim Beck as

18:02

the replacement USF makes

18:04

the hire of Alex

18:06

Goldish, the offensive coordinator from Tennessee.

18:08

Tom Herman officially introduced

18:11

at FAU And had

18:13

quite a twenty four hours as

18:15

the head coach of

18:17

Colorado. Danny the

18:19

any What do you make of what do

18:21

you make of Dion's? because,

18:23

obviously, the cameras are rolling. Yeah.

18:25

And he has made quite an impression

18:28

already, including introducing his

18:30

son as the the team's new

18:32

quarterback, QB1 competition

18:35

over. So I guess they

18:37

say every job is open when there's a new hire in

18:39

town, not in this case. Oh, what do

18:41

you what do you make of Dion's first twenty four

18:43

hours as the Colorado head coach?

18:46

So a lot to

18:48

take in. Right? There's a lot

18:50

to take in. I

18:52

love it from a content

18:55

perspective. Like, it gives us a ton to

18:57

talk about. I

18:59

think, you know, there was a I watched

19:01

the whole was eight or nine minutes

19:03

in front of the team, you know, when they had

19:05

the cameras following buzz. Mhmm.

19:07

I thought his message was one that I've

19:09

heard a lot in different locker rooms

19:12

probably primarily skewed

19:14

towards an NFL

19:15

locker room where it's a little bit more cutthroat.

19:18

Hey,

19:18

hey I'm

19:19

keeping guys that I want. And if you ain't good

19:21

enough, you're getting cut. That to me

19:23

was a message that I thought or

19:26

it it shocked lot of people, but

19:28

that's a reality that I think a lot of

19:30

coaches say the same

19:32

message at a program that's one of the worst in

19:34

college football. Like, I'm kind of Like, yeah,

19:36

what

19:36

else do you want him to say? Do you want him to cuddle these

19:38

guys and say, I'm gonna turn you guys into

19:40

stars? No.

19:41

He's gonna say, you're

19:43

either good enough or you're not. And if you're not, then

19:45

you're gone. And I thought you

19:47

I I was looking you know, I was trying to

19:49

look very closely at some of the players'

19:51

face in the video. I think they were little bit shell shocked because I

19:53

think they thought it was gonna be a lovey dovey. I'm

19:55

so excited to be here type of moment and

19:57

Dion had anything but that

20:00

Buzz I thought it I

20:02

I think it's gonna who said on our text

20:04

that it was either gonna be all or nothing? because I

20:06

kinda do feel I'm I'm kind

20:08

of in that camp with Tom. Like, it's

20:10

either gonna be a home run or it's gonna be

20:12

a disaster. I don't know if there's a seven

20:15

and five you know, a couple years

20:17

of, you know, mediocrity. I think it's either

20:19

gonna be spectacular or

20:21

it's gonna be spectacularly bad.

20:24

will say this, like, it's a unique

20:26

aspect when one of the first things you're asked to

20:28

do as a player is to sign a

20:30

waiver that so the cameras can be

20:32

on and following you everywhere you

20:34

go. That doesn't happen at every university.

20:36

No. Some players will find that

20:38

attractive though. You know? Like, hey, that's one of the

20:40

attractions of Dion. He'll

20:42

sell that two recruits in portal, you know, guys in the

20:44

portal, you come here. I'm gonna build you

20:46

a brand too. Yes. I'm gonna make you in a great football

20:48

player, but you're gonna get exposure that

20:50

you wouldn't get anywhere else. So

20:52

I

20:52

need to be exciting.

20:53

We're gonna watch it closely.

20:55

There is zero question and fuses a

20:57

ton of life into Colorado's

21:00

program from what I've

21:01

heard. they are going to

21:03

address some of the issues they've had before

21:05

with getting players in through the

21:07

portal, they're gonna address that.

21:11

you give Dion what he

21:13

needs, good luck, man. Let's

21:15

watch it. Let's have a party and get our popcorn out

21:17

and start watching it.

21:18

See, and that that's where my problem comes

21:20

in. Like, I don't have a problem with

21:22

what Dion said to the players in

21:24

that video. Like, is taking over a team

21:26

that went one in eleven. I If you

21:29

think your job is secure, you've

21:31

Scott, you know, here's your wake up call. If

21:33

you work hard and you wanna be here, you'll

21:35

be here. If you don't, there's

21:37

the door. It's a pretty standard kind

21:39

of message that new coaches will give

21:42

especially when they're taking over terrible teams, and

21:44

Colorado was a terrible team. My

21:46

problem is that it's all being

21:49

recorded. and he's having them sign, you know, like waivers.

21:51

It's like, is it cool if we release

21:53

this? It's I think

21:55

that if Dion just

21:57

is a football coach coming into a program

21:59

given his stature and his profile.

22:01

Can help revitalize a

22:04

program we've already seen too at a

22:06

Jackson state He's making

22:08

Colorado an attractive destination

22:10

for top talent that would have never

22:12

considered it if it wasn't for Dion

22:14

Sanders being there. But

22:16

is he trying to be a football coach

22:18

and build a program or is he trying to build

22:20

a reality television show?

22:22

And having that being recorded and having

22:24

the camera follow everything around,

22:28

that's where I feel like the lines get blurred because

22:30

every school has like a social media team

22:32

where they film the coach giving like whatever speech and then

22:34

they cut together and it's like the play team celebrating

22:36

the lock room, all that kind of stuff.

22:38

But I feel like this is

22:40

a TV show. that they're trying to

22:42

create here, like a series of episodes

22:45

more than just little clips that are gonna be on

22:47

social media. And that kind of

22:49

I don't know, Old Manish. That's just like I feel

22:51

like you're the the tail's wagging the dog

22:54

there. Build the team, and then the

22:56

team can produce the content with winning

22:58

football games. don't try to build a TV show

23:00

and hope to win on the way. But what did he

23:02

do at Jackson State? That's what he knows

23:04

because he built the he built

23:06

the brand

23:06

trusting that players will follow the

23:09

brand, which I think is more in

23:11

tune with today's player than

23:13

you or I. Right. So I'm with you. Like, do you

23:15

really want? Like, what are we really

23:17

about? But today's player, a lot of

23:19

them say, yeah. Oh, I'm gonna be on

23:21

I'm gonna gain how does that show

23:24

show on my Instagram channel

23:26

all the time. Like, I've been I've been doing it

23:28

behind the scenes of my rise. in this

23:30

game, and I've been broadcasting it myself. And

23:32

now I get to be alongside CoStar,

23:35

Dion Sanders, Coach Prime,

23:37

It's it's not for me, but I I think that

23:39

come be a star on my TV

23:42

show is going to work for some of the

23:44

crudes. But but will

23:46

it work on the field? Because there's a thing like

23:48

Jackson State, it's in the slack,

23:50

which is a great conference with

23:52

a ton of tradition. But in recent years,

23:54

hasn't exactly been the most powerful football

23:56

conference

23:56

in the country. So when you attract

23:58

five star recruits and p

24:00

five transfers playing against the rest

24:02

of that conference, the talent edge

24:05

is ridiculous. You're going

24:07

to win those games. There are

24:09

no utas there. There aren't

24:11

any organs. There aren't any

24:13

Washington. So just attracting players

24:15

to help build their brands. Like if that's

24:17

the goal,

24:18

right great. But if there's

24:20

bigger goals in, like, winning

24:22

games, I don't know if this is

24:24

the approach that's gonna work, which is why I'm

24:26

firmly in the this is either gonna

24:28

be incredible. Colorado is gonna be competing for

24:30

Pac twelve titles and playoff burst.

24:33

or it is going to be a disaster. I don't see him

24:35

in between. Here's where

24:37

I think is interesting, and I

24:39

think this is why the Dion hires

24:42

one thing. who's on

24:43

his staff, I think, is almost more important.

24:45

because I don't Dion, he's not

24:47

gonna be, you know,

24:50

like we see saving all the time, you know,

24:52

going around every single drill making the little points

24:54

and micromanaging. I think Dion has

24:56

taken a page out of Bobby Bowden's

24:58

playbook. And I

24:59

think we're Bobby bowed and

25:01

one of the things he learned in might have

25:03

looked completely different, but

25:05

Bobby knew

25:05

the value in building a brand. Right?

25:08

I mean, he built brand of Florida State and he did

25:10

it by, you know, playing anybody

25:13

anywhere and, you know, by doing a

25:15

TV show that was one

25:17

of the

25:17

first guys to do it. I mean, a lot of coaches have

25:19

done it, but he was one of the first to really embrace

25:22

it. And, like, if he gets Mike

25:24

Zimmer who was an analyst on his staff

25:26

with head coaching NFL experience to be

25:28

as defensive coordinator, which I would

25:30

think why else with Mike Zimmer have done, you

25:32

know, been an analyst this past season other

25:34

than the think, hey, the next stop, I'm

25:36

gonna get a massive opportunity. You

25:38

know,

25:38

I I think that's why his position

25:40

higher strength and conditioning. Who's that gonna be?

25:42

Like, I think his staff becomes

25:44

the most important thing

25:46

But to Tom's point, you can

25:48

miss on

25:49

some of those guys at Jackson State. Like, you can

25:52

have you know, you you did have a significant talent

25:54

edge. I was trying to go back and look at their schedule, but

25:56

it seems to me that I recall a lot of

25:58

their games were

25:59

pretty much in hand. There weren't a lot of one

26:01

possession games. They were pretty much dominating because

26:04

they had amassed so much talent. There's not

26:07

only is there, you know, no Utah working,

26:09

but there's a lot of Arizona, Arizona

26:11

states that you didn't face at Jackson Jackson

26:13

state either. Like, you go through an

26:15

entire schedule now And by the

26:17

way, it starts week one with

26:19

Nebraska. Let's go. Like, this

26:21

is gonna be I think it's gonna

26:23

be fun. I I think it's gonna

26:25

be very fascinating to watch and

26:27

unfold.

26:28

So the school has

26:31

announce that they're gonna work with Dion on some

26:33

of these transfer admission standards,

26:35

which was one of the reasons why

26:37

I was not valuing

26:40

The Colorado job as highly is a

26:42

potential landing spot. Scott if your goal is gonna

26:44

be to get in there and flip the

26:46

roster as quickly as possible, than

26:48

having any kind of obstacles getting players

26:50

in was not gonna be something

26:52

that was gonna make that as

26:54

attractive. So, okay, we're doing that. didn't

26:56

didn't we also get some quotes like,

26:58

we don't have the money right now, but

27:00

I'm not worried about it. The money will come

27:02

in. Yes. The after Totally

27:05

was asked. And he absolutely said we don't have it yet. We

27:07

don't have it yet. But that's not

27:09

as out of the ordinary as you think.

27:11

That's -- I know. -- my standards. It's

27:13

a As to the gator collection. It it

27:15

is I I understand. Like, thank

27:17

you for, yes, bringing in the context

27:19

that, you know, because so

27:21

many of these are on, like, pledges. Right? You know,

27:24

like, the money has been pledged. The

27:26

cash is not there. He

27:28

was being honest, maybe more honest than a

27:30

lot of athletic directors would

27:32

be, but it did sound hilarious.

27:34

Like, no, no, no, but don't you worry. I mean,

27:36

it it really sounded like

27:38

like a Hollywood pitch. Like, no, no, don't worry. This

27:40

will be a smash. There'll be a box office smash. It'll

27:42

be good. You get all your money back.

27:45

I promise. Also, that's how movies are

27:47

made. The money's not here yet, but we

27:49

will pay you if you die. I do think too.

27:51

I think the thing that Dion will bring I think

27:53

he's got that dog in him. Like,

27:55

And I think Colorado needs some of that.

27:57

You know, he needs some players with an edge.

27:59

And I think he think he I think he rides

28:01

with that chip on his shoulder and

28:03

You know, I

28:04

think he can motivate these. I think he'll

28:06

I I think it's gonna be fun. I would lean

28:08

towards more

28:10

towards the boom side,

28:12

but my massive concern now, especially that

28:14

he's introduced his quarterback to the

28:17

world. Good luck trying to

28:19

get a backup. So if anything happens

28:20

to Shadore, they're probably toast.

28:22

And also,

28:23

Shadore, we have no

28:25

idea, like, yes, he was good and,

28:28

you know, people that put him out there for the Hy's

28:30

men was kinda ridiculous. But we

28:32

don't know how good he's gonna be at the power

28:34

five level in this, you know, landscape. If

28:36

he's not very you need a quarterback. And I

28:38

know Dion's got confidence. He's his

28:40

son.

28:40

right But if you

28:41

miss on him and there's no who

28:43

because who's gonna come transferring to there?

28:45

as a quarterback. Like, I know I'm not. And if

28:47

I'm there, I'm out of there. You're not even telling

28:49

me I can compete for the job. Mhmm.

28:51

That to me is a major concern. Yeah.

28:54

I want it to work. Beautiful.

28:56

I've always had a soft spot for Colorado to

28:58

begin with, but I just think it would be good

29:00

for college football as a whole

29:02

if Dion Sanders is a

29:05

successful coach and he's taking a

29:07

program out west because we need,

29:09

you know, it's good

29:10

to have powerful programs all around the country.

29:12

It's good to have guys who will get attention

29:14

for being a good coach and running powerful programs.

29:16

So it'd be good for the sport if Dion succeeds.

29:18

I want it to happen. Great for the Pac twelve, which

29:21

is about to lose ERC and UCLA,

29:23

that if you've got a

29:25

Colorado led by Coach Prime,

29:27

out there as one of the, you know, the big attractions,

29:30

then the value of the pack twelve

29:32

and the interest in the pack twelve is gonna be

29:34

sky high. Officially, I

29:36

will say that I do think it will be

29:38

successful. I think

29:40

that I'm not all the way with Tom and

29:42

that it's gonna be boomer buzz because I think

29:44

that there's a version of boom that might be eight

29:46

and four. you know, where that one of

29:48

those eight is taking down one of

29:50

the conference powers, but that there might not be

29:52

enough consistency to always be able

29:54

to go twelve and o eleven and

29:56

one, ten and two. And that when you're

29:58

fluctuating the roster a lot, maybe that's where some

30:00

of that you're not gonna it's hard to

30:02

go up against Utah, for example. when

30:04

you when you've got the kind of fluctuation

30:06

that you've got versus what Kyle Whittingham has

30:08

established over time, that's

30:10

just just one sort of

30:12

thought that the top of the pack is so

30:14

strong. I can't imagine Colorado jumping

30:16

straight there, but I think that

30:18

Colorado under Sanders will

30:20

very, very quickly jump out of the bottom

30:22

of the pack twelve and find

30:24

itself competing to be the fourth fifth, sixth

30:26

best team in the conference. But

30:28

if let me

30:28

ask you, if Colorado is going seven

30:31

and five, eight and four, nine and

30:33

three, how long do you think Dion's

30:35

sticking around to go seven and five,

30:37

eight and four, and nine and three? I

30:39

don't

30:39

know. I can't I can't

30:41

know that. We got it. This has

30:44

happened very quickly. We just introduced him at the

30:46

power five level. We it. We see

30:48

what Right? I just pulled up. I think their first home

30:50

game is Nebraska. I'm looking at their

30:52

twenty twenty three schedule. It says on the road

30:54

against TCU Week one. Yeah.

30:56

because they hosted TCU.

30:58

the Yeah. So they're

31:00

jumping right in both -- Yeah. -- put right into

31:02

the deep end. Mhmm.

31:04

TCU in Nebraska right off

31:06

the get go? That I hope they I hope they

31:08

put that, you know, like, on the opening weekend. They

31:10

don't have a a date announced for that yet. Maybe they

31:12

could change it. I hope that's, like, this Sunday night game.

31:15

Yeah. So we can all just watch

31:17

it. Just all hold

31:19

hands and just But I don't know

31:21

him. I don't know now with all the new TV deals. What's gonna be

31:23

what? So Any

31:25

anything else on the coaching front that that

31:28

stood out? from the

31:30

the last twenty four to forty eight hours? Any

31:32

any burning

31:33

thoughts? c

31:36

plus No. I was supposed to I mean, Seth Ritrell, like, if you're

31:38

I think you're dialed in, you knew he was kinda on

31:40

the hot seat. It's a weird look that he was

31:42

in a conference championship game and then gets

31:45

fired. But last year was bumpy.

31:47

You know, they were able to battle back just to

31:49

make a bowl, but, you know, I think that was

31:51

a little bit surprising. If I look at some of

31:53

these jobs also and

31:55

you wonder like

31:56

some of these that came open and

31:58

coaches have taken a

31:59

job if they're like, oh, man, I wish I would have

32:02

taken that one. You know?

32:03

know I I've I've heard

32:05

rumblings about that Seth LaTrel thing for

32:07

a while. Mhmm. North

32:09

Texas is, you know, as it's moving

32:11

to the American It's it's

32:14

got big eyes. I

32:16

just wonder if its eyes might be a bit bigger

32:18

than its stomach. You know what I

32:20

mean? Like, everything's better in Texas, Tom. Come on. Yeah. I

32:22

know. I just it's it's like, okay. I

32:24

appreciate that. I

32:27

appreciate his thought. I just don't know if he's just

32:30

left. The athletic director who just got

32:32

hired by West Virginia was

32:34

in Seth

32:34

LaTrell's camp. And

32:37

then all of a sudden, when you lost the athletic director

32:39

who was, you know,

32:41

protecting you from

32:43

from the mob, they just they came and

32:45

they overrun the castle. So they are hitting, like,

32:47

new athletic director, new head coach, new

32:50

conference. Here's here's a question. clean

32:53

in Denton. Here's a question for you. will be older? The new

32:55

coach or Austin Ahdi. Does

32:57

he have another year email? It's really I

32:59

don't he might because he didn't come back

33:01

until what? Twenty eight scene. Oh

33:03

my goodness.

33:04

I don't know how dialed in you guys

33:06

were to that game, but we

33:07

had trailer on on the

33:10

radio show the week before. And

33:12

he

33:12

told me, you know, we were asked to preview the game.

33:14

He's like, well, he's like, I'm very familiar with

33:16

Austin Donny. He's like, because

33:19

My son was playing for me and I was the

33:21

high school coach at Gilmore High School

33:23

in Texas. And he's like, and

33:24

we got knocked out of the playoffs.

33:26

and it was Austin Annie, and it was

33:28

like twelve years ago. And he's like, yeah,

33:30

I'm familiar with him. I want revenge for him to

33:33

end my high school season. crazy.

33:35

Like, the twenty nine years

33:37

old, there's one thing about Stetson being

33:39

Bennett being twenty five. Like, that's

33:42

that's old. Twenty nine going around

33:44

with a bunch of college kids is old

33:46

old. Like, you're not even hanging around with the kids. You're

33:48

hanging out with, like, the coaches stat. Like,

33:50

the the coaches. Like, who are you

33:52

hanging with? It's

33:52

be awkward. For listeners who

33:55

aren't familiar, Auty was

33:57

drafted in, like, the second round -- Yeah. -- out

33:59

of out of high school. He was originally a

34:01

TCU commit was drafted the MLB

34:03

draft in the second round, played baseball for

34:05

a few years, didn't work out, and then he came

34:07

back to football in, like, twenty eighteen.

34:09

twenty nine years old -- Mhmm. -- this

34:12

past season. The gap between

34:14

twenty nine and nineteen

34:16

is immense. ten years does not even do justice to the

34:18

gap that you have between nineteen and twenty

34:20

nine, but that was Austin

34:22

Annie and some of his teammates at Some man with

34:24

a mortgage

34:26

playing quarterback for the meet. Right? Yes.

34:30

So we've got you mentioned the

34:32

conference quarterback. Again, the

34:34

twenty four seven sports is to go on wall to

34:36

wall transfer portal coverage

34:38

over on their YouTube channel. Make sure you go

34:40

and check that out. that I'll be jumping

34:42

over there for the one PM

34:44

hour to discuss some of that as

34:46

well. DJ Yunga

34:48

Lolei, according to twenty four seven Sports

34:51

Chris Sommer, affected to enter the transfer portal. Devin

34:53

Leary, NC State quarterback into the

34:55

transfer portal, Graham Mertz from Wisconsin into

34:57

the transfer portal, Hudson buzz

35:00

from Texas, into the transfer portal. Kaiden Slovis from Pitt into the transfer

35:02

portal. Drew Pine from Notre Dame, Jeff

35:04

Sims from Georgia Tech. The

35:06

kind of a a

35:08

wave of climps in players even beyond DJU. Miami's

35:10

who got a big exodus right now.

35:12

What how how are we even

35:14

keeping track

35:16

of this? We just let twenty four seven handle it and then send it -- Yes. --

35:18

see an email when everybody's

35:20

done. Buzz has seventy five

35:22

monitors

35:22

in that office of his and

35:24

that how he tracks who's

35:26

in the portal, and I just ask Bud. If

35:28

I have a question about anybody in the

35:30

portal, Bud is this guy in?

35:33

Yes. Okay.

35:35

Thank you. We do

35:37

have a pretty good tracker, right, at

35:39

CBS Sports. That's the one I use. The one that's

35:41

And you got of latest versus highest

35:44

ranked. Right. It's

35:46

you said how do you track it?

35:50

I

35:50

just and I was

35:51

talking to Houston, not about this, you know, coaching

35:53

the SEC and worked with me up in

35:55

a at CVS. He

35:57

you know, how do you like, I don't

35:59

know. That's why we have guys like Barton. I mean, that's

36:01

why Barton Simmons position

36:04

was created. General

36:06

managers, player personnel directors,

36:08

which also by the way, have always

36:10

been around the NFL level. All of a sudden,

36:12

they have to create positions. So there's an

36:14

entire staff that knows,

36:16

alright, we had we had relationship with this

36:18

guy in high school. We almost we almost had him. We

36:20

lost out to him. We've been keeping an eye on him. So I

36:22

think you have know, I don't know if you guys have

36:24

I'm sure you've seen it when you watch the draft on

36:26

NFL network. When you

36:27

see the the wall of

36:30

names that's up there, they've they've

36:32

got them in every college at some room

36:34

and it's just plastered with

36:36

names and

36:37

they probably prioritize, alright, This

36:39

is our first calls, but I just think it's like, there are gonna

36:41

be some surprises. And all of a sudden,

36:43

like, you come running in with that nameplate and

36:45

it's like, oh, boom, that goes

36:47

right to the stop. We gotta go get

36:50

I I honestly

36:50

don't know how I think it's going

36:53

to cause and I

36:53

think we saw it this year. I think it's gonna bring a

36:55

lot of parity know,

36:58

did you see what happened with the UCF two lane

37:00

game? What happened with Mike Keene? So John

37:02

Rice he had been splitting

37:04

time with John Rice Plumley. Right.

37:07

I know. Went since Bryce Plumley got

37:10

hurt. And he

37:10

was playing pretty well. They were winning games. They're

37:12

playing in the conference championship game.

37:15

He's not dressed out. not

37:16

dressed out because he wanted to preserve his eligibility. You buzz, so

37:19

he didn't play more than four games.

37:21

And so he's like, nah,

37:23

I'm I'm good. where they needed him. Bryce Plumley got knocked out. They

37:25

were in trouble and it Scott the game. But and

37:27

then Mike Kekeen after the buzz. I'm in the portal. Like,

37:29

he wants to go have another year somewhere

37:32

else. It's It

37:34

is wild. What's happening? I know we say it all the time. I

37:36

just don't know if we ever fully

37:39

appreciate exactly how nuts it

37:41

is. It

37:43

it but but released a short of this couple,

37:45

I think, week or so ago. Like, this transfer portal

37:47

in particular portal going to be

37:50

nuts because

37:52

it's these are recruits from the twenty twenty one class wherever the

37:54

COVID year where coaches did not really get a chance

37:56

to see these kids. It was kind of video scouting

37:59

for a large portal. and

38:01

it was the last recruiting class before

38:04

NIL became a thing. So none of these kids

38:06

have had a chance to, you know,

38:08

secure a bag for themselves in the recruiting

38:10

process. So everybody's entering

38:12

the portal with big dreams. How many

38:14

of them will actually be able to achieve them? I

38:16

do not know because that is a

38:18

lot of quarterback in the portal. And don't know how many

38:21

teams are desperate to find a quarterback right

38:23

now. I mean, everybody wants one, but a lot

38:25

of them already have guys.

38:27

That's what I'm curious

38:28

to see because I feel like fans are

38:30

window shopping everybody else's roster right

38:33

now. Mhmm. You know, everyone

38:35

believes that they have an unlimited war chest of

38:37

NIL and they're just gonna be able to go

38:39

and get somebody. Coaches are gonna be the ones

38:41

that actually have to do the dirty work and and

38:43

get these players to to get out there and commit.

38:46

A lot of

38:46

quarterbacks out there. How many of them

38:48

are even gonna be starters when they land at a

38:50

new at a new place? Because I don't

38:53

I don't I just don't see enough positions right

38:55

now where all of the hopes and dreams

38:57

are gonna be realized. You guys you

39:00

guys know Noah who we work with here

39:02

as a producer. It's CBS Sports

39:04

HQ. So I have to do the show on

39:06

Monday afternoons, and we're

39:07

doing a portal segment.

39:10

And, you

39:10

know, I'm used to doing this in the and

39:12

I don't really like it in the NFL, but it's like best fits. And

39:14

so he asked me

39:16

to give best fits for DJ Ouyangolei

39:19

and Graham Mertz. And I

39:22

don't want an I don't want you guys to

39:24

know what I replied back

39:28

up. See, I'll

39:30

put him I'll put him anywhere you want. They're

39:32

gonna be holding the clipboard. You know? Like,

39:34

I didn't put I say that

39:36

and yet there's a Michael

39:38

Pennox out there who totally you know, now

39:40

he rejoined with Kayla, so maybe you can find

39:43

those ties. There and this is why

39:45

players do it because there are

39:47

six assess stories that gives them hope

39:49

that says, oh, I could be that

39:51

guy. I would just love to know

39:53

the risk reward, like,

39:55

where the success failure

39:56

hit rate? Like, is it fifty percent

39:59

that hit? Is

39:59

it thirty percent that

40:02

hit? Like, you

40:02

go somewhere else and you succeed and

40:06

you're happy. or is I would guess

40:08

its failure rate is higher, but I don't know.

40:10

because you there are a lot

40:12

of examples Joe Burrow. I mean, the

40:14

list is really long of success

40:16

stories, but compared to the number

40:18

that are in the

40:20

portal, like, It's pretty I think you'd have a page of that

40:22

have transferred and didn't play, and you'd

40:24

have, you know, a pretty select group that

40:26

you'd

40:26

be say, oh, these guys had

40:30

success. when Eric Goldstein showed up at Florida State, we're like,

40:33

Let's go. And

40:35

it alright. But

40:37

it wasn't, like, fulfilling all of the dreams of

40:40

the best case scenario of leaving Notre

40:42

Dame, showing up at Florida state,

40:44

and have all one. Work out.

40:46

Yeah. Exactly. I I don't know the

40:48

hit rate, but I saw the stat on Twitter the other day. Like, I can't remember the exact number. But since the

40:50

portal was created, only forty

40:52

percent of the players who have entered

40:56

the portal have found homes. Now granted, the ones we

40:58

hear about are the names we already know. The names that

41:00

have entered the portal of players that it's like, okay. We

41:02

know they're gonna do a job and a lot of those guys

41:04

are guys probably weren't playing

41:06

where they were and maybe were just

41:08

entering the portal and then their careers ending.

41:10

They were just trying to see if there's anything out there,

41:12

but still. Only forty

41:14

percent of the players who went through the transfer

41:16

portal find a new spot. Alright.

41:18

Let's

41:18

get reckless with it. That's just find

41:21

a roster. Right? Yeah. That's not the

41:23

most succeed when you get it. Yeah. The the the list though

41:25

includes walk ons. Right? Mhmm. That's

41:27

what I'm saying. There's

41:28

like a ton of guys in there that nobody's

41:30

ever heard of that nobody's ever

41:33

expected anything from, but it's not always a spot

41:35

for you when you enter. DJ, wearing

41:37

blue and

41:38

tj were in blue and gold gold, I

41:40

mean, you still Or or I put my email. That's

41:42

what we're doing. Little t's for

41:45

the show. I mean, we

41:48

just, like, Dory he he does not have the exact

41:50

same skill set as Dorian Thompson Robinson, but

41:52

Dorian Thompson Robinson is another big

41:54

quarterback who can get out there

41:56

and move And

41:58

so it is very easy for my brain to be like, I

41:59

could see Chip Kelly looking at DJU and

42:02

saying, yes. I can

42:04

I can make

42:04

it happen with him. And

42:07

I will say that looking at DJU and what his skill set

42:09

is and where he's been, I feel

42:11

more confidence in Chip Kelly being

42:13

able to get something

42:15

out of him than I do the coaching staff he's currently

42:18

playing under. In which case it would

42:19

be why you would want

42:21

to transfer portal to be

42:24

able to be there so that players can

42:26

find a little bit better fit when it's not

42:28

working out. Again, over on the twenty

44:02

Alright. Full

44:03

bowl schedule is

44:06

set again Tom for now. Is the story live yet?

44:08

Don't

44:08

think so. Oh. And I've been looking

44:10

for, like, the past ten minutes. Like, try

44:13

to find your article. Damn it.

44:15

I don't wanna know last year's bowl games how they ranked. Saying,

44:17

you know, we got some lazy editors.

44:19

That's all I portal that.

44:22

If I if I could write nine thousand

44:24

word bull rankings in a matter of

44:26

hours from when all the games are announced,

44:29

and then before we gotta get it up on Sunday

44:32

night, saying some editors could

44:34

maybe edit

44:36

it. So

44:36

though we are looking at

44:38

the entire bowl schedule, obviously, you're

44:42

like, Georgia, Ohio State's a banger. Like,

44:44

not only is it a college football playoff

44:46

semifinal, but it's Georgia Ohio

44:48

State. Tom, is that number one?

44:50

Number one. Number one.

44:52

Shocking. Shocking. Well, let's

44:54

let's go ahead and work backwards

44:56

from there. So what else what how does the rest of the top

44:59

five round out for you? Number one

45:01

is the beach ball between Georgia

45:03

and Ohio State and Shaw workingly

45:05

number two is the fiestable between

45:08

Michigan and TCU. Now,

45:10

just to clarify, like, these rankings

45:12

are not scientific, although things

45:15

like my ratings for the

45:18

teams, totals, spreads,

45:20

that kind of stuff does come into play

45:22

because you know,

45:24

AA2 point spread in a game with

45:26

a lot of points will probably be more attractive than

45:28

a game that's projected to be a fourteen point spread

45:30

with a low amount of points. So mostly

45:32

this is sub numbers and a lot of vibes buzz just

45:34

interesting match up. So the top the playoff games

45:36

are one or two. Number three, I've got the rose

45:39

bowl because I think Utah Penn

45:41

State very fun game. Utah is the only team to

45:43

beat USC this year. Penn State's only two

45:46

losses have come to Michigan and Ohio State, and it

45:48

has worked everybody else to do this

45:50

phase. So I think it might

45:52

not be all that different from the Rosebel we had

45:54

last year between Utah and Ohio State.

45:56

So I'm really interested in that

45:58

one. Number four is probably gonna surprise

46:00

some people. The cure

46:04

bowl, number twenty four

46:06

Troy versus number

46:08

twenty five, UTSA, the Sunbelt champion versus the

46:10

conferencing USA champion, but

46:12

it's also a very

46:14

interesting match up between these two teams

46:16

in what should be a

46:18

very entertaining game. So

46:20

you don't think of the cure bowl as

46:22

via like a top bowl game, but I'm telling

46:24

you it's going to be one of the best bowl games I'm

46:27

schedule. And at

46:29

number five, I've got the

46:31

Cotton Bowl, USC and Tulane. I

46:33

just think that USC's offense. Gonna wanna watch it. I'm

46:35

assuming Caleb believes he's gonna be playing because he's not

46:38

draft eligible. And then I

46:40

look at Elaine, Tyjay

46:42

Spears, one of the best running backs in the country I

46:44

think most people aren't familiar with going

46:46

up against that

46:48

USC defense. Typically, when you see USC versus two

46:50

lane, you're probably thinking that's gonna be a

46:52

blowout. I don't think this

46:54

is

46:54

gonna be a out. I

46:57

think that's gonna spread. Yeah. I think it's one and a half to two points. Right?

46:59

Yeah. It's I saw USC favored

47:01

by two. Yes.

47:04

Lane. This is a USC team that has not even won a bowl game in, like,

47:06

five or six years back to twenty seventeen for

47:08

the last USC win. This is

47:11

first major bowl game for Two Lanes since

47:14

nineteen forty, the end of the nineteen thirty

47:16

nine season. I I've got

47:18

that Scott bowl so high on

47:20

my list. Yep. I'm

47:22

very, very excited to

47:24

see how those two programs

47:26

face off against each other. because you know what also there

47:28

ain't gonna be? and gonna be many

47:30

stops in that game. I know two lanes that got

47:32

a defense. It's been pretty good, but

47:34

I think that that's gonna be a very

47:36

high scoring back and forth. Are you

47:37

so I did not have

47:39

this one quite as high for two

47:41

reasons. One Cable aims if he doesn't

47:43

play a dramatically different

47:46

looking game.

47:47

just don't wanna hear and I think

47:49

we might, like, USC

47:52

total letdown

47:52

spot. Right? They were on the

47:54

cusp of the playoff. They're out.

47:57

how

47:57

bad do they wanna be there? because this

47:59

is two

47:59

lanes, Super Bowl. Right? You know exactly what you're

48:02

gonna get from them. And I just I'm

48:04

a little bit worried about USC mailing it

48:06

in. And it's not because that's and that's credit to

48:08

USC. The season they had, it's not, like, an end to be a lot of programs I

48:10

would put in this category.

48:13

Alabama being one of them, where

48:15

I just wonder

48:16

where their mindset is. I think it'll be

48:18

a fun game because I think even USC

48:20

if they don't because it always works the

48:24

same, like, not like USC is not gonna wanna be their on game day. It's the

48:26

prep leading up to it. You know, like, do they wanna

48:28

put in the work that they have to? And I

48:30

just I I worry a little bit about that

48:32

aspect, which is why

48:34

I would definitely take

48:34

too lane in the points here. I think

48:37

that

48:37

USC, in a lot of these spots,

48:39

and it it's funny

48:42

because especially since we moved to a position where

48:44

the college football playoff semifinals are

48:46

are always now positioned on a Saturday.

48:49

Like, they're not trying to throw you that Tuesday

48:51

New Year's Eve start like they did when they

48:53

first started the New Year six. It happens to be

48:55

that New Year's Eve is on a

48:57

Saturday this year. buzz this game will be

48:59

after the semifinals. Like, motivation is and

49:02

you're gonna feel like you just

49:04

already saw the conclusion of

49:06

the season. And now here comes USC in two

49:08

lane on a Monday,

49:10

January second, one PM

49:12

eastern time, noon

49:14

central. I Yeah, motivation might be an issue, but I'll tell you what I love about

49:16

games in this spot. Once the game

49:18

gets started, you normally do see

49:20

teams wake

49:22

up. Yeah. You get you get scored on real quick,

49:24

you get you start to get hit, and then all the sudden

49:26

it's like, alright, you know, blood the juices do

49:29

get flowing. And I would hope that USC

49:32

is able to answer because a look

49:34

Tulane could,

49:34

like, run US if

49:36

USC knows the show. I learned

49:39

a massive lesson last year that

49:41

I promised myself I would take

49:43

note of. I thought the

49:44

rose bowl was gonna be garbage. Remember all the

49:47

opt outs for Ohio State? I was like,

49:49

oh, that's definitely infected the locker room. This team doesn't wanna be there. And

49:51

it looked like it for a little bit, but

49:53

that's chips point. They woke up. All of

49:55

a sudden, it was like, Alright. We

49:57

got a shootout on our hand. So and usually when you do mail it

49:59

in, it usually is the defense that doesn't

50:01

really wanna be there. So

50:03

you don't see as well, you know, the tackling's a little bit

50:06

loose, so it leads to some shootouts. So I'm all

50:08

-- Nothing new for

50:10

USC. I know. -- it's

50:12

right in. That was what was it? The

50:14

bokeh bowl last year? You were feeling comfortable

50:16

for it and all of a sudden, it's like, uh-oh,

50:18

business decisions left

50:20

and right. This yeah. I would say that, like, bowls are are great live

50:22

betting opportunities -- Yeah. -- because, you

50:24

know, it starts and it might be a slug of start

50:26

for one and or

50:28

both teams. buzz there's always

50:30

a point, you know, usually around, like,

50:32

early second quarter once we're maybe four or

50:34

five possessions into the game where either both

50:36

teams are gonna wake up and we're in for

50:38

something that's, like, super competitive or one

50:40

team's gonna lay down, and this thing is just gonna be

50:42

a SIEM to end kind

50:44

of scenario. Danny,

50:44

I saw that you've you held your list up to the camera right there

50:46

for those watching on youtube dot com slash cover

50:48

three. What are the other bowl games that

50:50

you've got highly ranked so far.

50:53

I'm a little disappointed. I didn't hear the orange bowl

50:54

in your top five. The all orange

50:57

orange bowl. Oh, yeah. It's the literal

50:59

one. I like it. for

51:01

so many different Deion's. one,

51:04

I think you're gonna see a lot of offense.

51:06

Even without Henry

51:07

Hooker, Joe Melt, I mean, Jordan's already,

51:09

you know, fired up for this one.

51:11

I was all with Barrett Salee, and he said that's

51:13

his biggest lock is Tennessee in

51:15

this game. And I was like, alright. I'll side bet

51:17

you on this one if you want. also just

51:19

the whole dynamic to Kate Clubnik. Like, if he

51:22

goes out there and balls, which I expect him too,

51:24

against this Tennessee defense, which

51:26

isn't great versus the past, like,

51:28

does that just because man, this

51:30

has gotta be a rough go of it for Davo

51:32

who dug his heels in for two

51:34

years. And now

51:35

you've got a glimpse

51:37

of what everybody thought could happen and you didn't wanna see it.

51:39

Like, I that aspect is really interesting, so I

51:42

I kinda like that. Like, there's just a lot of

51:44

different storylines to

51:46

this game. I I

51:47

think it's gonna be fascinating. Did you

51:49

see Mac Brown say that he they

51:51

weren't prepared? Yes. He'd close. He's like, we

51:53

didn't think he was gonna play, and we didn't want him

51:55

to play. We're like, were gonna win. He basically said I

51:57

mean, it was kind of a roundabout way of saying DJ sucks and

51:59

we

51:59

wanted to face him. Yes. Yeah.

52:02

But also that the the the staff had

52:04

not prepared

52:06

for the potential of the Right. He's

52:08

been so stubborn. There was no way

52:10

he was gonna change quarterback. So even though he's been

52:12

awful, we thought we were gonna see him no

52:16

matter what. The

52:16

other game is and this is obligatory, but

52:18

Florida state is playing Oklahoma in

52:20

the cheese bowl. That will be

52:23

They did. Yeah. We're gonna have Yeah. We got some side

52:25

action on the radio show between me and

52:28

Dusty. The only thing I was

52:30

thinking about and I know

52:32

a Florida state guy. We were just telling comes buzz, are

52:34

you going to the game? He's fired up?

52:36

There's not really an upside

52:38

here. There's not much up side for Florida State. Like,

52:40

you're supposed to win this game. Right?

52:42

They're a touchdown favorite. I

52:44

think they will. But if you

52:47

lose, you carry away all that momentum that you

52:49

had into the season. And for Oklahoma, they're pumped. They got

52:51

a better bowl than they probably thought they would get.

52:53

They got a chance to beat Florida State. Like,

52:55

there's a lot more

52:58

incentive for Oklahoma to win, you know, play hard in this game. But I do think

53:00

I've already seen some guys at Florida State

53:02

that are opting in as opposed to, you

53:04

know, take it off. So

53:06

I think

53:07

we'll be good But my list too. And

53:09

then I had I had some

53:11

others on here.

53:13

the I

53:15

had Texas Washington. Yeah. Alan,

53:17

that was one game at the Alamo

53:19

Bowl. I had notar name

53:22

at the Gator Bowl. Notar name versus South

53:24

Carolina. Like, let's Let's see because

53:26

Notre Dame owns the ACC. Right? And let's

53:28

let's see if they can push around South

53:30

Carolina, South Carolina efficient finished on

53:32

such a high note. Very curious to see how that

53:34

game unfolds. Did you do

53:36

you have the t shirts made up for Cox

53:40

versus Catholics? Not yet, but I'm gonna buy

53:42

buzz. That's for sure.

53:44

Oxford's Catholics in Florida. coming

53:47

to you live in Jacksonville.

53:50

No. I gotta go to

53:52

confession. Yeah. Tom,

53:55

what what are some of the other ones on the bowl

53:57

rankings that that that you wanna make sure

53:59

we highlight? I

54:00

have the orange bowl twelve. I have the cheese at

54:02

bowl eleven. I actually have the Gator

54:04

bowl at twenty two, simply because I don't know

54:07

who knows her name's quarterback. He's going beat Drew

54:09

Pides in the portal. Fuckers off for the year.

54:11

Who knows? Give me a chance. We'll

54:13

get it before then. Rounding out my

54:15

top ten. I got the holiday bowl. I think Oregon, North

54:17

Carolina, could be a lot of fun just because kind

54:19

of like the

54:22

the two line USC game, I don't expect there'd be a whole lot of

54:24

stops. I like the Las Vegas bowl

54:26

between Oregon, state, and Florida. eleven,

54:30

seven. But if Anthony Richardson doesn't

54:32

play, that really does impact that

54:34

game. Sneaky ball game,

54:36

two one ranked teams, the

54:38

LA ball. Fresno Scott and

54:40

Washington state. Jake Haynor,

54:43

Kam Ward. I'm gonna tune

54:45

in for that. And then you mentioned the Alamo Ball. I got that at

54:47

nine. At number ten, not a home or

54:50

pick? Relay Quest Ball, Mississippi State

54:52

in Styles

54:54

make fights, air raid, virtual noise, secondary. Yeah.

54:56

I I'm really interested in seeing

54:58

how that plays out. And I think Mississippi

55:01

Scott too defensively, against the

55:03

run, going up against the Illinois offense. It's gonna be an interesting

55:06

game. It's in Tampa

55:08

on Jan a very So kind

55:10

of annoyed that Illinois is in a Florida

55:12

bowl game. And it's in

55:14

Tampa, which is where my dad lives.

55:16

Buzz because of work, I can't

55:19

go to the DMK.

55:21

I mean, you could. If you

55:23

just wanna go post that, like, take the

55:25

whole studio on the road, True. Yeah.

55:27

Just gonna post up in my dad's crib. Yeah. I don't know how happy to

55:29

eat me about that.

55:32

Okay. So

55:35

Always always

55:36

one of my favorite bowl

55:38

games is the Dukes Mayo bowl. Or there's just

55:40

AAA bowl game that's close to my heart. But

55:42

how about NC and Maryland?

55:44

old ACC foes. Maryland was a thorn

55:47

in the side of the NC

55:50

State Wolfpack two

55:52

times in the last

55:54

twenty two years when NC

55:56

State had a chance. We we I've

55:59

mentioned North Atlanta hasn't won an ACC championship since nineteen

56:01

eighty. NC State hasn't won an

56:03

ACC championship since nineteen seventy nine.

56:05

The Wolfpack never even got an opportunity to

56:07

play for one in the

56:09

division ACC championship game era.

56:12

And two of those times when NC

56:14

State was the closest of

56:16

Maryland was the last bit thorn

56:18

in their side. will be very

56:20

interesting to see those those

56:22

former ACC foes show

56:24

down in Charlotte, Kentucky

56:26

versus Iowa again, I mean,

56:27

they keep this is like an exhibition bowl

56:30

games or exhibitions, but they just keep

56:32

putting Kentucky against Iowa, and they're just moving

56:34

into different bowl games. This time it's in the

56:36

music city bowl, everybody

56:38

gets a piece of the

56:40

Kentucky Iowa game. And

56:42

so how could I not be excited? And

56:44

it's always at noon. You always have

56:46

to have this game at noon. But

56:48

this

56:48

music city bowl is going to be a

56:50

lot different than last years between

56:52

Purdue and Tennessee. And I'm

56:54

I'm a freak Kentucky versus Iowa is a

56:56

sexy game to me. I really wanna watch

56:58

it. The problem is two years in a row,

57:00

I just kinda take some of the bluster off

57:02

of it. You know, I mean, it's pretty because Miami and Wisconsin played

57:05

two years in a row, and the second time

57:07

almost had a little bit more

57:10

to it. I think the second time was what ended Mark Rick's time as

57:12

Miami said, coach. But that's not like

57:14

a great style. That wasn't a great

57:16

stylistic fight. I mean, this is Kentucky and Iowa.

57:18

This is

57:20

Mark stoopes versus the program he's trying to become. So to

57:22

have it

57:22

two years in a row, I

57:25

don't know, lose lose in

57:27

a little bit of little bit

57:29

of pizzazz. Right? Also, Spencer Pietro's isn't playing at Alex Padillas

57:31

in the transfer portal. So I don't know who I

57:33

was quarterback will be. And

57:37

also Will Lemus might opt out. Insert joke about both

57:39

of the

57:40

quarterback players for both of these

57:42

teams. I oh my god. Watch. I

57:46

will put forty five points in Yeah. Like, is Tory Taylor

57:48

opting out? Like, you

57:50

need to know what the punting status

57:52

is for both of

57:54

these teams. Another one that stood out to me,

57:56

obviously, we mentioned it Louisville,

57:58

Cincinnati. The Scott Satterfield

58:00

is

58:02

now incredibly unique.

58:04

Mhmm. How about Kansas, Arkansas?

58:06

That is

58:08

two

58:08

very fun and interesting

58:12

offenses. going against two defenses that haven't shown much

58:14

of an ability to stop fun and interesting

58:16

offenses. So that could

58:19

prove to be one of the

58:22

better games of the bowl season

58:24

and also a battle of Kansas

58:26

kinda. Like

58:27

Are Kansas versus Kansas? So

58:29

I was thinking about it because it's the liberty bowl and it's

58:31

based in Memphis because

58:34

Kansas is, you know, obviously, bowl eligible for the

58:36

first time in a while. Arkansas,

58:38

you know, has been a bold team more

58:40

often than not. But given the

58:42

prox buzz, not proximity,

58:44

I hope I'm not getting my geography wrong,

58:46

but Buzz kinda

58:48

feel like the Liberty Ball will be well attended. That both

58:50

Kansas

58:51

and Arkansas will will bring a a pretty

58:53

good fan base for that December twenty

58:55

eighth ballgame where I think

58:58

that while stops

58:59

might be few, I think

59:01

the the atmosphere could be very

59:03

competitive and very fun. Yeah. Arkansas fans. Arkansas fans are

59:05

great. They're going to travel, and I have to think Kansas fans

59:07

going to a bowl game for the first time and forever are

59:09

going to travel for the

59:11

game as well. I just wish

59:14

this had been Kansas versus Missouri like they wanted, but Missouri didn't wanna do it.

59:18

Cowards.

59:19

Well, yeah. And now, you know what you get?

59:21

Missouri, you get sent to the Gasparilla Bowl to play Wake

59:24

Forest. Yep. So

59:26

there you go. Do you

59:27

wanna hear my worst bowl

59:30

games? there are no bad bowl games. There are no bad bowl

59:32

games. We said my five

59:36

lowest ranked We'll start at

59:38

thirty seven, the Birmingham

59:40

bowl between Coastal Carolina and

59:42

East Carolina, which could have been

59:44

a really interesting game,

59:46

but I doubt Grayson McCall is gonna play in it, especially now that Jimmy

59:48

Chad was on the way to Liberty.

59:50

Holt Nailers is one of my

59:52

favorite players to watch. He's like a kind of

59:54

a cult figure

59:56

in my eyes. So I I'll be happy to watch him in one more game.

59:58

I just don't know how interesting this game is

1:00:00

gonna be. Number

1:00:02

thirty eight, the LendingTree

1:00:04

Bowl between Southern Miss and

1:00:06

Rice. It's a conference

1:00:08

USA reunion, I suppose, but

1:00:10

Rice is the only five and seven

1:00:12

team to reach the postseason this year. Not

1:00:15

exactly the most enticing option, but

1:00:17

again, I will watch every single TAM,

1:00:19

one of these games. I Yeah. That's also,

1:00:21

like yeah. It's in the

1:00:23

first Saturday, which is one of the only days that you

1:00:25

really get to have multiple screens going. So

1:00:28

Mhmm. Yeah. But break buzz out that

1:00:30

extra TV for one last

1:00:32

time because Saturday the seventeenth might be one of

1:00:34

your last chances. Thirty

1:00:36

nine, the Myrtle Beach Bowl between

1:00:38

Marshall and Yukon. Oh, come

1:00:40

on. I'd still happy that you to really

1:00:42

am, but Chip, it's not

1:00:44

that good of a team. I

1:00:46

think Marshall

1:00:48

there's a very good chance the herd might thunder through this

1:00:50

one and it could get ugly early.

1:00:52

So got it's got big blow up

1:00:54

potential. I had to keep it at thirty nine.

1:00:58

Number forty, I love the

1:01:00

loved vocation location, but the

1:01:03

Bahamas bowl, UAB versus

1:01:05

Miami, Ohio. Just It's

1:01:08

not it's not the most it's not the sexiest matchup

1:01:10

of the post season. Like, unless Trent

1:01:12

Delfer maybe coaches for this game, maybe that'll

1:01:14

add a little bit more like,

1:01:17

cache to it and make it more interesting to watch, but I don't

1:01:19

see that happening. And then there is

1:01:22

number forty one.

1:01:25

The first responderable memphis

1:01:28

versus Utah State.

1:01:30

I just I don't

1:01:32

know Utah State is a different team

1:01:35

from week week, I have no idea what to expect.

1:01:37

Memphis is a team to me that I feel

1:01:39

like at the end of this

1:01:42

season might just be ready to

1:01:44

be done. So it's two six and six teams, two very

1:01:46

inconsistent six and six

1:01:48

teams. I just that

1:01:50

could make

1:01:52

be the ingredients for a wild and wacky time.

1:01:54

I'll watch. I'll find out, but I

1:01:56

do not have the highest hopes for it to be entertaining.

1:01:59

The people who

1:01:59

put on

1:01:59

the first responder bowl put in a lot of

1:02:02

effort to be able to make sure the the

1:02:04

event itself runs well.

1:02:06

However, the pecking order is the pecking order.

1:02:08

And when filling out the bowl

1:02:10

tracker and we see the word pool in the selection process.

1:02:12

I'm

1:02:14

like, oh, So,

1:02:17

like, you are hanging out at the bar at

1:02:18

one fifty five AM. Mhmm.

1:02:21

Alright. Who's

1:02:23

still here? you,

1:02:25

me, you, me. And that's

1:02:27

kind of what Memphis Utah Satterfield

1:02:30

like is that it's like, alright.

1:02:32

Well, these These two teams are bowl eligible. We've already

1:02:34

salted rice. Here we

1:02:36

go.

1:02:36

You two go home together.

1:02:40

Maybe they'll get married one day and laugh about it with their children.

1:02:42

They've been basically telling

1:02:43

state. Oh, goodness

1:02:46

gracious. Well,

1:02:46

my child of it ever.

1:02:50

What does that kid look like? Oh, by

1:02:52

the way, somebody in the chat asked about New Mexico

1:02:54

state becoming bowl eligible. Yes. They

1:02:56

are in the quick lane bowl. against

1:02:58

Bowling Green, quickly in Bowling, of course, in

1:03:00

Detroit in the afternoon. Always

1:03:02

a always a fun affair to

1:03:04

be able

1:03:05

to to get your you

1:03:08

know, your December twenty sixth day

1:03:10

after Christmas going with a with a

1:03:12

little bit of quick lane, bold new mix. No. came

1:03:14

that day, by the way,

1:03:16

too. Wow.

1:03:16

Yeah.

1:03:17

But they're well, you and me. I mean, Danny and God will have boxing day

1:03:19

soccer to get us

1:03:22

through. Ugh.

1:03:22

the Boy, I'm really

1:03:24

excited to see the effort of all those

1:03:27

Premier League players who've been in

1:03:29

the World Cup. No

1:03:32

handies and

1:03:33

no, like, minor

1:03:35

knocks, I'm sure. We are taking

1:03:37

some boxing day overs

1:03:39

this year by front could be little effort on the

1:03:41

defense event. Let's go. Alright.
