1:26

1:26

I have a very special guest. One

1:33

of my amazing clients. Sonal.

1:33

Sonal is an artist. She's also a

1:38

coach, and she is brilliantly

1:38

talented. So Sunil tell people

1:45

where they can see you right away? Yes, so I'm available. My

1:48

1:53

ramnath.com. I'm available on

1:53

1:59

that's s o n, a n, s o w a n.

1:59

And I'm available on Facebook as

2:06

soon as Ramnath. So you can see

2:06

my art anywhere. Beautiful,

2:10

beautiful. So I want to dive

2:10

right in like your journey is

2:14

just phenomenal. You're so

2:14

incredibly talented. So tell us

2:21

how did you get into art? Well, um, um, I am actually a

2:24

human resource professional. And

2:31

I moved to Malaysia on a

2:31

dependent visa, so I couldn't

2:35

really work over there. And I

2:35

got into art. And I think that

2:39

was like a blessing for me. When

2:39

my daughter was born, at six

2:45

months old, I started pursuing

2:45

my Master's in Fine Arts. So and

2:50

I'm not looking back to there. So tell us a little bit about

2:51

like something something led you

2:55

from pursuing your career the

2:55

way it was to saying, Oh, I

3:00

wanted to do art. were you

3:00

always interested in art?

3:04

I was always interested in art.

3:04

I think, you know, the first

3:07

thing I went to, if I got

3:07

scolded if I wanted to be alone

3:12

was art. So Art has always held

3:12

me Art has always accompanied me

3:17

Art has always been a part of my

3:17

life in the past 45 years,

3:24

although it's a very deep rooted

3:24

expression for me.

3:31

Nice. So Cebu, so how was it

3:31

after your daughter was born

3:35

that made you say, You know

3:35

what, I want to pursue art.

3:39

So before she was born, I was

3:39

painting but I never never took

3:43

it very seriously. I was just, I

3:43

was just painting like all

3:46

hobbyists too. But when my

3:46

daughter was born, I thought to

3:50

myself, I want to pursue art, I

3:50

want to show her I want to show

3:55

her that you can be can be

3:55

passionate about something, and

3:59

you can bring that passion into

3:59

the world. There is meaning in

4:03

it, there is Solon. So I

4:03

immediately, you know, got onto

4:08

the internet. And I, you know, I

4:08

started pursuing my Master's in

4:11

Fine Arts. I did it from Academy

4:11

of Art University, San

4:15

Francisco. And to my benefit, it

4:15

was an online program. So it was

4:20

like, it was like golden age for

4:20

me.

4:24

Wow. Is your daughter now?

4:28

Just well now? Wow. So you've been doing it for

4:29

a long time, about your journey

4:34

because from there, you also now

4:34

are doing a coaching program for

4:40

artists or anyone who is

4:40

creative. And so something is

4:44

evolved into something bigger

4:44

now. So tell us about your

4:48

journey from then to where you

4:48

are now.

4:52

My journey has been amazing like

4:52

right, you know, from from HR

4:58

into our heart and Now, in fact,

4:58

you know, when I started doing

5:02

my Masters, you know, that is

5:02

only that is a time when

5:06

Instagram and Facebook and all

5:06

started coming up. So it was,

5:11

there was so much exposure for

5:11

me, which I didn't get earlier.

5:16

So as an artist coming into

5:16

sudden, like a sea of artists

5:23

who are doing so much good work.

5:23

For me, initially, it was very

5:29

intimidating to actually, you

5:29

know, come out in the world and,

5:32

you know, talk about my art,

5:32

sell my art even. But past two

5:38

years, I realized that I had to

5:38

go within, I had to go explore

5:45

myself, you know, my art is not

5:45

outward, my art is inward. I

5:51

need to find what is my soul in

5:51

that art. So with the help of

5:56

therapist mentors, like you

5:56

like, Jim, it's, I have grown so

6:03

much as a person. I you know, I

6:03

started Jim's program with zero

6:10

money in my bank account. Wow,

6:10

I'm seeing I'm already doing

6:18

Jim's program. And that's how I

6:18

met. Yeah. That's how I

6:24

manifested my first art

6:24

commission, which paid for that

6:29

program to tell us there's a little bit

6:30

of a, something happened with a

6:34

microphone. So tell us a little

6:34

bit like what? So you joined

6:37

with zero money? And then how

6:37

did you manifest the client?

6:41

I just set out my intention. I

6:41

was doing everything I went

6:45

inward, I understood where I am

6:45

not able to receive the

6:51

abundance. You know, being a

6:51

good artist is one thing I knew

6:55

even then that I'm a terrific

6:55

artist. But I was wondering what

6:59

why is it not coming to me? Why

6:59

is why am I not selling my art?

7:03

You know, what is what is wrong

7:03

with me? In short, and then I

7:07

started doing things that Jim

7:07

actually thought in the way to

7:12

have an honest podcast and all

7:12

of that I started doing that

7:16

inner work. And I manifested

7:16

that post site ticket

7:21

commission. Wow. Look, looked

7:21

back since. Wow. Yeah, it was it

7:31

was terrific. I mean, you know,

7:31

it really works the inner, the

7:35

inner work really works. It

7:35

really brings you in a state of

7:40

abundance. And it becomes so

7:40

much more easier to manifest

7:44

that abundance. Because of that.

7:47

Amazing. Amazing. So from there,

7:47

it has evolved into now you're

7:52

teaching a program. And before

7:52

we get into that, you have a

7:57

secret to share with the world.

8:01

Yes, yes. Yes. I am so excited

8:01

about it.

8:05

I was so you kept that secret

8:05

from me for a long time.

8:11

Yes, yes. My job like literally dropped

8:13

when you you said that to me?

8:17

You know what I'm talking about? Yes, I know. Yes. I am launching

8:18

the liberated artists program.

8:29

This program is actually

8:31

referring to your art and the

8:31

moon.

8:35

Oh, that one? Yes. Or not

8:35

another exciting thing? Yes. My,

8:40

my art is going to the moon and

8:40

it's it's terrific. You know,

8:45

you always hear this expression.

8:45

I love you to the moon and back.

8:50

Who I want to go to the moon. I

8:50

wish I could go to the Moon Moon

8:53

is so fascinating, right even as

8:53

a child. You know, from that

8:57

from that, you know, like a like

8:57

a very, micro lot. I mean, of

9:01

course it's real, but it's got

9:01

this mystical element to the

9:06

moon. And you know, when I

9:06

actually came to know that my

9:09

art is going to the moon I could

9:09

not believe it. It was such a

9:13

surreal feeling. So

9:16

tell us about that. Like how

9:16

because it is literally going to

9:19

the moon it is not a speech, a

9:19

figure of speech. It is

9:22

literally going to the moon

9:22

about that whole piece about

9:27

what is about going to the moon.

9:31

Yes, so I So Dr. Samuel para

9:31

Peralta is a physicist. He's

9:37

also an Emmy Award winner. And

9:37

he has taken this minute mission

9:42

to place artists on the moon,

9:42

not just visual artists, but

9:47

poets and writers, people who've

9:47

done a lot of cinema and

9:53

documentaries and all of that.

9:53

So he's placing art on the moon.

9:57

The message we're trying to give

9:57

is in time slike the pandemic,

10:01

we still found time to make

10:01

soulful art. And so you Yeah,

10:06

he's taken up this whole mission

10:06

right now in the pipeline is a

10:10

newer collection, which is going

10:10

to the moon. The next one is a

10:14

peregrine collection where my

10:14

heart is my heart belongs to the

10:18

Peregrine collection that will

10:18

be next. I think it says

10:21

scheduled to go around May or

10:21

June. Um, so yeah, it's very,

10:26

very, very, very exciting

10:28

to How did you even manifest

10:28

that, that that gig of like

10:33

having an arsenal. So I

10:35

work with my curators in us. The

10:35

group is called poets, artists,

10:41

and I show a lot with them. So

10:41

my art this particular painting

10:47

was for a porter for an

10:47

exhibition called storytellers

10:51

in Australia. So, so yeah, I

10:51

mean, you know, she has tied up

10:58

with Samuel Peralta, Dr. Simon

10:58

Peralta. And so they, you know,

11:04

a lot of artists on the poets,

11:04

artists crew have, you know,

11:07

have their arts, they have their

11:07

art that is going to be placed

11:11

on the moon. So, so yeah, it's a

11:11

very, it's a very beautiful

11:15

initiative that they've taken.

11:15

And I just feel so blessed to be

11:20

a part of that, man. What did

11:20

you paint for that? So I painted

11:28

this painting is called

11:28

sisterhood. It is about how

11:33

women need to support women to

11:33

rise up in life ahead in life.

11:40

Yeah. And it's beautiful. It's

11:40

based on on the story of Rani

11:43

Lakshmi by and how she had her

11:43

coterie of women. That led her

11:49

to, you know, what she did? You

11:49

know, she had a dream, and she

11:53

fought for that dream. You know,

11:53

it's a very, it's a bone

11:57

chilling story. It's beautiful

11:57

story. So that is that is the

12:01

idea of ideology, like women can

12:01

support women, women can, you

12:06

know, bring other women forward?

12:06

You know, embellish their

12:09

dreams? And yeah, to me, it's

12:09

still it's still the most

12:15

fascinating work that I've done. Amazing, amazing. Things. No,

12:17

no, I love that. That's

12:22

beautiful. And you are one.

12:22

You're what one? One, just one

12:28

Indian woman selected, right? Yeah. So initially, I was only

12:30

one. But now I think there's one

12:33

more. She actually moved back

12:33

from us to India. So now we have

12:38

two women who are selected from

12:38

India.

12:41

Nice, amazing. Me thing. Okay,

12:41

so to now I want to talk about

12:47

your program. Yes, the program I

12:47

knew. And the moon part. I was

12:52

like, Why do you have aren't

12:52

going to the moon and you didn't

12:56

tell me? Yeah, let's talk about

12:56

your program. So tell us about

13:01

the liberated art program. So the liberated artists program

13:04

is basically for artists who are

13:09

who are extremely talented, but

13:09

we're not, we're not really able

13:17

to get that abundance they

13:17

deserve till now. Okay, they

13:22

are, they are, they are artists

13:22

who would like to learn the

13:28

techniques and techniques to how

13:28

to create that kind of abundance

13:32

that supports their dreams that

13:32

supports their life. So, you

13:38

know, when I was really

13:38

struggling to be an artist, I

13:43

asked for help. You know, I

13:43

asked for help in gym, I asked

13:47

for help. And you I asked for

13:47

helping other coaches. And it

13:51

helped me tremendously. I am

13:51

ready to bring what I've learned

13:56

to bring my growth so I can help

13:56

them grow. And that is what the

14:01

program is all about. So, yeah,

14:01

it's about you know, growth,

14:06

it's about you know, overcoming

14:06

your fears. It is it is it is

14:10

all of it. Because, you know,

14:10

you really can't isolate one

14:13

from the from the other. Um,

14:13

it's it's exactly what I

14:19

experienced and I think it is

14:19

such a soulful way of even going

14:23

about it. So yes, I would like

14:23

every artists because art is

14:28

power. Oh my goodness. You know,

14:28

its sole full power. Yes. So I

14:34

think every every artist needs

14:34

to feel that way about their

14:38

art. And that is the only way

14:38

they will ever feel liberated

14:43

about what they do about their

14:43

art about, you know, what comes

14:48

to them. Yes, and for me, like art is

14:49

such an integral form of how I I

14:55

raised my vibration and

14:55

frequency. And it helps me read

15:00

leads happen to higher levels of

15:00

consciousness. And so having

15:03

pieces of art that raise my

15:03

vibration then brings helps me

15:08

bring that into the world. And

15:08

this especially in our whole

15:12

world is backwards, right? Like

15:12

where we don't have, we don't

15:17

value the things that actually

15:17

bring us joy. And it's so

15:20

focused on just certain things

15:20

that are, yeah, they're all

15:24

They're all great, but like

15:24

focusing on things that really

15:27

uplift humanity. And art is one

15:27

such thing. It's really

15:31

incredible. And you have a

15:31

beautiful painting behind you.

15:35

And right, and so you're

15:35

bringing now your talent as an

15:39

artist, and also as how you've

15:39

sold your paintings and how you

15:43

brought your paintings to the

15:43

world, to these newer creatives

15:48

who are probably not sure how to

15:48

do it.

15:51

Yes, yes. Yes. So yes, I'm here

15:51

to serve. I think I was I've

15:58

seen about this program for

15:58

really long, not not this

16:01

particular. But I was thinking

16:01

of doing programs for artists

16:05

for a very, very long time. But

16:05

I think the growth that I've

16:08

experienced in the past two

16:08

years gives me the confidence to

16:13

actually talk about it and to,

16:13

you know, to be able to serve

16:17

and help people bring out there,

16:17

but you know, beyond their

16:23

parts, so, yeah. Beautiful. So

16:27

tell us so know, like, how did

16:27

you come to this program, like

16:30

what made you even decide to

16:30

create this program?

16:34

I, I actually, I come across a

16:34

lot of artists who are

16:40

incredibly talented, incredibly

16:40

talented, you know, there are

16:44

home makers who make art there

16:44

are there are artists who are

16:49

who are actually artists, but

16:49

they're doing other jobs because

16:52

they want to support and sustain

16:52

their life and, and what I feel

16:58

that they are hiding behind some

16:58

kind of a curtain, you know,

17:03

they're not going all out. You

17:03

know, you can have a job, but

17:07

you can still make great art

17:07

because you're already making it

17:10

right. You have to come out in

17:10

the open to talk about it, you

17:13

know, let it be seen, let

17:13

yourself be seen. And I can

17:18

understand those fears, because

17:18

I've gone through them all. But

17:22

I know how essential it is for

17:22

people to come forward to you

17:25

know, to choose a path for

17:25

themselves and be on that path

17:28

and, you know, make their dreams

17:28

come true. So and I love I

17:36

actually love artists because

17:36

they bring so much of

17:38

soulfulness in this world. You

17:38

know, be it be it dancers with

17:44

musicians fashion designer.

17:44

It's, it's it's all very high

17:50

frequency high vibration things.

17:50

And so I'm love to help and

17:56

support them in any way I can.

18:00

Amazing, amazing. So what were

18:00

your struggles that you had to

18:05

overcome to get here? Um, my, my biggest thing was, of

18:09

course, I doubted myself at

18:15

every stage, there was a need

18:15

for validation. There was a need

18:19

to be, I couldn't talk like this

18:19

sometime back. And I was hiding

18:28

all the time. I mean, I would

18:28

post my art but nobody knew who

18:31

the artist was because they've

18:31

never seen me. I will not write

18:35

about my art because I was like,

18:35

What if people judge me whatever

18:38

I done, what if they say this

18:38

what is that and, you know, that

18:43

fear of being attacked, and you

18:43

know, all those sorts of things.

18:47

Whether I'm really good, whether

18:47

I'm I battled through all of

18:52

that. So you know, anything,

18:52

anything and everything. I was

19:00

comfortable in my studio, very

19:00

comfortable making what I'm

19:02

making, painting all of that I

19:02

was very comfortable. I knew I

19:06

was good at it. But there was

19:06

this other side to it, which

19:10

was, which was not letting me

19:10

express about my art which I

19:16

started doing now. So and it's

19:16

you know, I can see a stark

19:20

difference, you know, in terms

19:20

of the confidence I had earlier

19:24

and now. So yeah, and you had to do a lot of

19:27

internal work and that internal

19:30

work is the foundation through

19:30

which you learn to build your

19:36

confidence and you're not asking

19:36

for validation from outside

19:41

really like honing in on who you

19:41

are and what you bring.

19:44

Incredible, incredible. And so

19:44

what are some of the challenges

19:50

you see with the creatives that

19:50

you come across?

19:55

One, I definitely see something

19:55

that stalking starkly comes up

20:00

bosses are being able to express

20:00

about the talk about their art

20:04

you know, what their, what their

20:04

concepts are, what their

20:08

ideologies are, second is plain,

20:08

you know, a lot of them hide

20:14

behind the hunger, the artists

20:14

narrative, you know, will always

20:18

be will always have to struggle.

20:18

So, it really starts from a

20:21

very, very indoctrinated way of

20:21

approaching the art world, you

20:27

know, rather than saying this is

20:27

who I am, this is me, this is my

20:31

authenticity, this is my

20:31

uniqueness. This is what I bring

20:35

to the world. And I feel a lot

20:35

of artists struggle to do that.

20:40

Because of which they are not

20:40

able to go that extra length

20:46

which is what I think is very

20:46

required, you need to be unique,

20:49

I mean, not need to be you are

20:49

unique, right? But you need to

20:52

also be authentically be able to

20:52

express what your art is all

20:57

about what you are available. Yeah, you nailed it. You nailed

21:00

it Sona like that, is it right?

21:03

Like you're there's so much

21:03

indoctrination and conditioning

21:07

around art and what that means.

21:07

So I am wondering, how did you

21:11

break all the norms? If you can

21:11

show?

21:15

Yes, I've had to do a lot of a

21:15

lot of inner work around it.

21:19

Okay, things like even even

21:19

increasing my pricing. When my

21:25

curator told me, this is what

21:25

you sell your paintings. I said,

21:29

Not a chance. I can't sell my

21:29

paintings at that high value. I

21:35

am an Indian. I can't I can't

21:35

aspire to own in dollars. And

21:41

you know it, you know, and then

21:41

I said, fine. It's okay, I trust

21:47

her. I trust her to leave me

21:47

right now. And I went with it.

21:50

And I sold at that high. I mean,

21:50

I have sold four paintings,

21:54

which are, you know, I, which

21:54

is, which are above

21:59

5000 6000 $7,000. And it's, it's

21:59

incredible, because I don't see

22:06

that very often. Being in India,

22:06

there are extremely well

22:09

established artists who are able

22:09

to do it. But there are others

22:13

whose art is equally good. And

22:13

they can demand that kind of

22:17

price. But they're not. Yes,

22:17

they're not valid, simply not

22:23

valuing the value. The first

22:23

thing I learned was to value my

22:27

value. If my curator is telling

22:27

me, that's what your value is, I

22:33

want to trust and own it. And I did. And I you

22:35

know, so much opened up for me.

22:42

Yeah, yeah. And also, how did

22:42

you break the cultural norms?

22:47

Because, you know, I was growing

22:47

up in India, like you were

22:50

always told no, you have to you

22:50

can't partake choose any

22:53

profession, that is not this or

22:53

this. Because if you don't, then

22:58

you're not gonna you're not

22:58

going to be able to make money.

23:01

So I'm assuming you also had to

23:01

break some cultural norms with

23:04

that. Um, or maybe not. I didn't

23:06

really have any, any problem,

23:14

any Much, much resistance on

23:14

that front. But I get it, I get

23:20

what you're saying. Because

23:20

nobody might have pressured me

23:24

to think that, oh, artists don't

23:24

make money. But the artwork

23:28

does. The artwork does have

23:28

that, that storyline of hungry

23:34

artists, you have to struggle a

23:34

lot to become who you want to

23:39

be. And you know, things like

23:39

that. Which is just not true.

23:42

Because if you're unique and

23:42

authentic, if you're, if you're

23:46

able to talk about your art,

23:46

your art is coming from some

23:50

deep place in your soul and your

23:50

heart. It is bound to touch

23:55

adults. Yeah. And so yes, I

23:55

mean, I don't I never had the

24:02

pressure of, oh, you're you're

24:02

becoming an artist, and you'll

24:06

never be able to make art.

24:06

You're just an hobby artist,

24:08

initially, all that was there.

24:08

But once were once they saw my

24:12

passion. I don't think anybody

24:12

bothered me. artworld narratives

24:18

Did, did keep me under a veil

24:18

for a really, really, really

24:21

long time. Because it started

24:21

believing in them, instead of

24:25

believing it, believing in yourself. Very true, very true. And you

24:27

were able to now, because you

24:33

made those leaps and bounds,

24:33

you're now able to help so many

24:35

people. And it has also been

24:35

healing for you and it's healing

24:39

for the people. You said you

24:39

have your art and their home.

24:43

Yes, yes, absolutely.

24:43

Absolutely. Healing is a very

24:50

it's a because because, you know

24:50

when, at least now when I paint,

24:55

I sometimes don't even need

24:55

references. I do If I do what

25:01

comes to me, I do what you know

25:01

where the flow takes me. So me

25:06

that is already healing, and

25:06

that is that energy is bound to

25:10

come in the paintings as well.

25:10

You know, so I have I have I

25:16

have received like collector

25:16

collectors who bought my art,

25:22

they told me consistently how

25:22

good they feel that the art is

25:26

in their homes, you know, my one

25:26

of my collectors, she's, it was

25:31

a commissioned piece, and she

25:31

wanted to get a painting done

25:34

based on Shiva and Shakti. So,

25:34

we did the other Naresh Guerra

25:39

permission for her. And that is

25:39

all about balancing the

25:43

masculine feminine energies. And

25:43

she says when she looks at it,

25:47

she feels she feels that energy.

25:47

So, yeah, yeah, and, you know,

25:53

that's what it is, that is the

25:53

ultimate test testimony, because

25:59

how else do you you know, how

25:59

else do you know whether or not

26:05

what you've done is working for

26:05

your clients? Right. So, you put

26:11

it put in your, when you put in

26:11

your heart and soul and that

26:14

client is bound to feel it,

26:14

collector is bound to feel it.

26:20

And that is why it is so crucial

26:20

that to make art from a place of

26:24

uniqueness and authenticity,

26:24

than to you know, fall within

26:28

the narratives of what social

26:28

media tells and what people are

26:32

doing. Yeah, so beautifully put Sonal

26:33

amazing, amazing, amazing. So

26:39

what are some words of wisdom

26:39

you would like to give to some

26:43

of these creatives who are

26:43

struggling right now.

26:49

I think if my my advice would be

26:49

if you you know, help is always

26:58

given to people who asked for

26:58

it, you know, come out in the

27:01

open, ask for help. You know,

27:01

there are people who are willing

27:05

to teach you even, you know, dig

27:05

deep in your own soul in your

27:11

own mind and are you are a

27:11

unique version of yourself, you

27:15

can be authentic, you can

27:15

express, you just have to take,

27:20

you know, let your growth be

27:20

seen. Let your work be seen. And

27:27

that is how you will be able to

27:27

bring what you want in your

27:31

life. It is very important to

27:31

just trust, surrender, let go,

27:39

you know, ask to go inward and,

27:39

you know, ask yourself, what is

27:44

it that I'm trying to do? What

27:44

is it that I'm trying to say?

27:48

These are these are few of the

27:48

things that have helped me. You

27:53

know, what, what, what, what is

27:53

my art about, you know, what do

27:56

I want to say in my art? And

27:56

because that's what the

28:00

expression is, all you can do

28:00

is, you know, talk about it and

28:03

let it be seen. Let it be heard.

28:03

And, um, well, yes, you know,

28:10

always, always focus on what you

28:10

bring to the table than what is

28:15

already there on the table. Nice, very nicely said. So,

28:17

Sunil. How can people find your

28:23

program? So they can just hear me either

28:25

28:29

terrific. I mean, I wouldn't

29:13

29:16

I've been sitting on this for the past one year. Oh my god.

29:21

Yes. I wanted to learn something

29:21

last February but you know, it

29:26

takes whatever it takes right.

29:26

But with you I have experienced

29:32

so much growth so much growth,

29:32

you know, in all areas of my

29:38

life. And so yes, I want to

29:38

specially thank you for

29:43

everything that you've done for me. Oh my goodness. So no, that

29:45

really made my day and I'm so

29:49

touched and I know that you have

29:49

so such amazing things to offer.

29:54
