Your discretion is advised. Hello
1:06
everyone and welcome to
1:09
episode 298 of the Criminology Podcast.
1:11
I'm Mike Ferguson. And
1:13
this is Mike Morford. Mr. Morford, how you
1:15
doing buddy? I'm doing good. I'm
1:17
staying busy and doing some stuff around the
1:19
house and getting out the outdoors. How you
1:21
doing? I'm doing great. I
1:23
had an interesting thing happen
1:26
to me this week. I was asked to
1:28
come into a local high school. There's
1:31
a teacher there who teaches
1:34
a forensic science class, actually
1:36
one and two. And
1:40
she uses the podcasts as
1:43
part of the class. So she asked me to come
1:45
in for this leadership thing that they do. It
1:48
was really amazing. I mean, these
1:50
kids were smart. They asked
1:52
a ton of great
1:54
questions and I just really had
1:56
a lot of fun with it. That's awesome. And
1:58
I hope that you can help out. Future
2:01
leaders of America. It's a good thing. Yeah.
2:03
No, I was glad I did it. I
2:05
really was Let's go ahead and
2:08
give our patreon shout outs. We had
2:10
cowgirl 521 Kelly
2:12
Louise LaDon Turner jumped
2:15
out at our highest level and
2:17
we had Madison Perkins. So a lot of
2:19
great new support We really appreciate it Thank
2:22
you to everyone that goes out of
2:24
the way to help the show it really means a lot to
2:26
us And if you'd like to help support the

sign up All right. Let's
2:32
jump right into this week's case and we're
2:35
talking about a pretty high-profile
2:37
case There was a
2:39
custody battle some
2:42
jealousy financial impacts,
2:44
but it was so
2:46
tumultuous and so dangerous that
2:48
it led to the disappearance
2:51
and presumed murder a
2:53
50 year old Jennifer Doolos Allegedly
2:56
at the hands of her ex-husband
2:58
and his lover sometime
3:00
in 2003 Jennifer Farber
3:02
was living near Aspen, Colorado While
3:05
there she ran into a friend Fotis
3:08
Doolos who she had met while
3:10
they were both attending Brown University in Rhode Island
3:12
around 1986 They
3:14
had lost touch but found themselves easily
3:16
catching up about old times. Although
3:18
they never dated while they were in college Sparks
3:21
flew during this chance meeting more than 15 years later
3:24
He was in town because he was into competitive
3:26
sports and had been there to ski It
3:29
seemed like fate had reunited them at
3:31
the time Fotis was separated from this
3:33
first wife and Jennifer was single It's
3:36
not clear exactly when they officially started dating,
3:39
but their relationship moved quickly They
3:41
had a lot of time apart to make up for in August
3:43
2004 Just over a
3:46
month after his divorce was legally finalized Jennifer
3:48
and Fotis married. She took his
3:51
last name and according to an interview with Fotis
3:53
himself on Dateline They had two
3:55
ceremonies one in England where many
3:57
of Fotis's friends and family lived and
3:59
another In New York for jennifer family. That.
4:02
Same year, two thousand and four. Foetus.
4:05
And his sister. Rent.
4:07
Started the luxury homebuilding
4:09
company called. For. Her.
4:12
Fo for foetus and aren't
4:14
eat for rent. Who. Was
4:17
an architect. Together. With
4:19
the help of a vast
4:21
amount of funding from Jennifer's
4:23
father, Hilliard Farber, they created
4:25
gorgeous custom home for group
4:27
even developed an entire wrote
4:30
called Jefferson Crossing. It was
4:32
really an exciting time for
4:34
the couple. And. They seem to
4:36
have a bright future to get. The.
4:38
Newly weds live together an
4:40
Avon, Connecticut. And began trying
4:43
to start a family of their up by
4:45
two thousand and ten they had four children.
4:48
To. Twin boys. And another
4:50
set of twins. This. Time
4:52
a boy and girl. I
4:54
have some. Friends. More Who.
4:57
You. Know have twins. They're. Essentially
5:00
grown now, but I
5:02
remember. What? They winter.
5:05
Is. Pretty tough, you know,
5:07
raising twins. To. Have two
5:10
different sets of twins that. I
5:12
think that's a little bit unusual.
5:15
And. Now would be a lot of work, no doubt
5:17
about it. And try to think back to the.
5:19
Midnight. Feelings and stuff. I wonder if you
5:22
wanna? Hopefully they wake up the same time you
5:24
take care of more one sir. Are
5:26
they going to pick up at separate times And. Is
5:28
never going to good night's sleep. But yeah, Jake
5:30
to be a handful. Yeah, either way it's going
5:32
to be tougher. In September two thousand
5:35
and ten. Tragedy. Struck. Cleopatra
5:38
dollars. For. This his mother
5:40
was killed in an accident involving the families
5:42
former nanny. And she tried to
5:44
move their large land rover to make it
5:46
more accessible for everyone to get in. Seats.
5:48
Are Cleopatra had moved away from the vehicle.
5:51
But. She had actually bent down inspect the
5:53
headlights. The nanny unfamiliar with the
5:55
specific car, trying to figure out how to
5:57
turn on the headlights. When. She heard.
6:00
a noise. Sadly, it was the sound
6:02
of the car hitting Cleopatra. She
6:04
was badly injured and didn't recover. The
6:06
next month, Jennifer and Votis had
6:08
another girl, who they named after Votis' mother
6:11
to honor her, though they called
6:13
their youngest by her middle name. Jennifer
6:15
would later write on her blog that this
6:17
name wasn't exactly her choice. She
6:19
wrote, It's like when I argued
6:21
that my daughter Clea and Noelle could
6:23
easily be Noelle Cleopatra, and
6:26
Votis said if that were the case, he'd
6:28
have nothing to do with her baptism or
6:30
her life. Perhaps this blog entry
6:32
was a glimpse into a side of Votis that
6:34
Jennifer wasn't familiar with. In
6:37
2011, the Votis' 15,000 square
6:41
foot family home was built
6:43
at Fort Jefferson Crossing in
6:45
Farmington, Connecticut. The four
6:47
group offices would also be at
6:49
this address, over one of
6:51
the garages with a separate entrance from the
6:54
home. It was ready for the Dulos
6:56
family to move in by 2011. In September 2012, they
6:58
hired a new nanny, Lauren Almeida, as
7:05
well as her sister Ashley. With
7:08
five kids, they liked to split the
7:10
duties between a few different nannies, but
7:12
after Lauren graduated college in May 2013,
7:15
she became the full-time nanny
7:19
for the family. She and Jennifer
7:21
grew close, and she also
7:23
saw Votis as a mentor, and
7:25
she began to work at the four group when
7:28
she wasn't busy with
7:30
her nanny work. For
7:32
the next few years, it seemed
7:34
Votis was busy with home
7:36
building and Jennifer was busy with
7:38
raising five children. It's not
7:41
exactly clear when the relationship
7:43
started to deteriorate, but by
7:46
March 2017, Jennifer
7:49
suspected that Votis had been
7:51
having an affair, one
7:53
that she thought had been going on
7:56
for around a year on
7:58
a vacation to Miami that same month. Jennifer's
8:01
mother, Gloria, broke her foot. So
8:03
they took Noel, the youngest child, back
8:06
to New York with them so that
8:08
Gloria could see her doctor. Fotis,
8:11
the four older children, and
8:13
Lauren all stayed behind. With
8:15
Jennifer gone, Fotis then moved Lauren and the
8:18
children from their hotel suite to a single
8:20
room at a different hotel. But
8:22
the hotel switch wasn't for any kind of practical
8:24
reason. It was because Fotis wanted to
8:26
spend the night with his mistress. A
8:28
woman named Michelle Traconis. It
8:31
turns out, Jennifer's suspicions of infidelity
8:33
by her husband were valid. The
8:35
group all met up at a private water skiing
8:37
club where both Fotis and Michelle were members. The
8:40
two oldest children already knew her and hugged her,
8:43
calling her Mitchie, her nickname. It
8:45
was clear that they had known her for some time. This
8:48
wasn't a new relationship. The kids
8:50
just didn't have any idea that their father
8:52
was romantically involved with Michelle. By
8:55
May of 2017, Jennifer
8:57
and Fotis had agreed that
9:00
their relationship wasn't working anymore.
9:02
By this point, Fotis didn't
9:04
deny having an affair with Michelle.
9:07
On the 30th, Jennifer filed
9:09
an emergency motion for full custody
9:12
of the five children after
9:14
he threatened to take them to Greece and
9:16
never return if Jennifer didn't
9:18
give him everything he wanted in
9:21
the divorce. For some reason, the
9:23
emergency motion was denied,
9:25
despite Fotis' threats. Perhaps,
9:28
had that emergency motion for
9:30
custody been granted to Jennifer
9:33
and other precautions been
9:35
taken, what happened next
9:37
might not have ever happened. On
9:40
June 19, 2017,
9:42
Fotis called 911 to report that his wife
9:44
and children were missing. He told the
9:47
dispatcher that they had all headed to New York
9:49
to visit the grave of Jennifer's father, Illiard,
9:52
who had passed away that January. But
9:54
they hadn't returned and Jennifer wasn't answering
9:56
her cell phone. It Turns out that
9:58
Jennifer and the kids were safe. There for
10:00
taking the children and fled to a home. She.
10:02
Prepared with Lawrence help. Slowly.
10:05
Moving items out of their home over time
10:07
so that food is would notice before they
10:09
made their final move. The. Day after
10:11
Nine One one call she filed for
10:14
divorce. She. And the children ended up
10:16
living at Sixty Nine was Lane and New
10:18
Can in Connecticut. By. December that your.
10:20
Shots Conus and twelve year old daughter
10:23
had moved in with foetus at for
10:25
Jefferson Crossing. So. We have a
10:27
situation more. One. That we
10:29
seen multiple times and episodes
10:32
of we've covered. You.
10:34
Have a couple who seems to
10:36
be. Really? In Love. And.
10:39
Financially over the years they were
10:41
doing very well. Do. You
10:43
think about a fifteen thousand square foot
10:46
home? Okay, that's a that's
10:48
a big daddy. They. Had.
10:51
Five. Children. But. At
10:53
some point. The. Relationship.
10:56
Turns. Out. And. It's.
10:58
Not hard to think that a lot of
11:00
that probably had to do with. Infidelity
11:03
on the part of
11:05
funk. Air to to
11:07
discuss the show to that no matter how
11:09
are you may be financially have a nice
11:11
big home, nice cars, That problems.
11:14
In a relationship can still. Pop.
11:16
Up and then when you get children
11:18
involved that can always make or break
11:20
up like that. Even. Tougher because
11:22
and you get into custody. Issues
11:25
and things like that so can really
11:27
add some fuel Too far by the
11:29
I think it's natural for. People.
11:32
To look at. You. Know, let's
11:34
say couple whose well see they're
11:36
doing really well and think oh
11:38
wow they gotta make. Well.
11:41
You. They. Have the same problems that
11:43
the rest of the stuff. Or they
11:45
they can. The. Same problems:
11:47
Money doesn't mean that
11:50
your relationships are perfect.
11:52
It doesn't mean your life as Perth. in
11:55
two thousand eighteen jennifer's
11:57
mother gloria farber file
12:00
two different lawsuits against Fotis
12:02
for unpaid loans Fotis had
12:04
received from her late husband
12:06
Hilliard. She claimed that he
12:08
owed 2.5 million dollars
12:11
but Fotis claimed it was all just a
12:13
gift from his wealthy father-in-law
12:15
and he didn't know anything.
12:17
By March of that year Fotis had
12:20
found himself with no custody of the
12:22
children and no right
12:24
to see them. In March 2019 he was given
12:28
back the privilege to see his kids
12:31
but only during supervised
12:33
scheduled visitation and during
12:35
any visits Michelle and
12:37
her daughter were prohibited from
12:39
having any contact with the
12:41
Dulos children. If the
12:44
visits took place at Fotis'
12:46
home at 4 Jefferson Crossing
12:48
Michelle and her daughter had to leave the home they
12:51
were living in until the children
12:53
went back to Jennifer. This
12:55
is something Michelle would later
12:57
tell investigators was like
12:59
torture. Jennifer was looking into
13:01
moving to Colorado for a fresh start. Fotis
13:04
had told her that the divorce was amicable but
13:07
to Jennifer it was anything but. She
13:09
wanted her life back and she felt that going to
13:11
Colorado might be good for her. There were
13:13
multiple custody hearings in May 2019 but
13:17
nothing changed for Fotis. He
13:19
still had to follow specific orders about how,
13:21
when, and where he could see his children
13:24
with a court-appointed supervisor watching his every
13:26
move during the visits. On
13:28
May 22nd at 3.30 p.m. Fotis arrived at Jennifer's
13:31
69 Wellesley home for
13:33
his scheduled visit with the children. He
13:35
was an hour early and the supervisor wasn't due
13:38
to arrive until 4.30 so
13:40
Jennifer and Lauren turned him away and told
13:42
him to return at the proper time which
13:44
he did and when he came back at 4.30 he took the
13:46
children to Grace
13:48
Farms which has a recreation area
13:50
and an indoor basketball court where
13:52
they played together. Afterwards they
13:55
went back to Jennifer's where Jennifer allowed
13:57
Fotis to sit at a picnic table on the
13:59
back patio. so he and the kids
14:01
could eat the Greek salad, bread, and cake
14:03
he had bought for them. During
14:05
this trip, the children also admired, or at
14:07
least pointed out, his newly
14:10
shaved head, running their fingers across his
14:12
scalp to feel the prickly short hair. After
14:14
dinner, they played basketball in the driveway on
14:17
a hoop Jennifer had just installed earlier that
14:19
morning. At 7.41
14:21
p.m., just a bit after the scheduled
14:23
end time for the visit, Fotis headed
14:25
back home to Farmington. It
14:27
had been a largely uneventful visit. Michelle
14:30
had tried to text Fotis while
14:32
he was on this visit with
14:34
his children, and when she saw
14:36
that he hadn't read the text,
14:39
she sent him an emoji of a
14:41
middle finger. It seemed that
14:43
Fotis and Michelle were beginning to
14:46
have some issues in their relationship,
14:48
and that she may have been
14:50
jealous of the time he was spending with his
14:52
kids. On May 24, two
14:55
days after this visit, Jennifer
14:57
took the kids to New
14:59
Cannon Country School. At
15:01
7.57 a.m., she texted Lauren just
15:04
before they all headed out. A
15:06
neighbor's surveillance camera caught her 2017
15:10
suburban coming home at 8.05
15:12
a.m. At
15:14
10.25, the same camera
15:17
caught the suburban leaving. Around
15:19
11.30 a.m., Lauren arrived home with
15:22
four of the children. One
15:24
of the girls had taken the school bus home with
15:26
a friend. They had Subway
15:29
sandwiches that she had purchased earlier
15:31
that morning, and then got ready
15:33
to go to their grandma Gloria's
15:35
home in Manhattan. Once
15:37
Lauren and the kids got inside the house, Lauren
15:39
noticed a few things that were odd. Jennifer's
15:42
bag was on the floor near the mudroom door,
15:45
and while Jennifer simply might have taken the wallet
15:47
out and not needed it, it was
15:49
still a pretty nice bag to be leaving on the
15:51
floor, and it wasn't like Jennifer to leave stuff
15:53
on the floor in the first place. Also,
15:55
Jennifer usually on the go would quickly scarf
15:58
down a granola bar and a cup of coffee. But
16:00
Lauren noticed that both of these things were on
16:02
the counter untouched. Lauren's first thought
16:04
was that Jennifer had really been in a hurry to
16:07
leave that morning. She did have a
16:09
doctor's appointment in New York that morning, and
16:11
the children also had orthodontist appointments.
16:14
So Lauren figured that she had been running late and just
16:16
skipped breakfast. Lauren washed out the
16:18
mug and put the granola bar away, but
16:20
then she noticed that the paper towel holder was empty.
16:23
When she went to replace it, she also
16:25
realized that nearly an entire jumbo package of
16:27
paper towels was missing. Instead
16:29
of a 12 pack, there were just two rolls. She
16:32
thought that was odd because she had just put the full
16:34
package away the night before. And as she
16:36
grabbed one of the rolls to put it on the holder, she
16:39
wondered what the kids had gotten up to
16:41
that needed 10 entire rolls of paper towels.
16:43
These things began to all add up in Lauren's mind
16:46
that something was off. In
16:48
the garage, Lauren noticed that Jennifer's
16:50
Range Rover was still parked there,
16:53
even though Jennifer had
16:55
told her specifically that she
16:57
planned to leave this suburban behind and
17:00
drive the Range Rover to New
17:02
York since it was easier to park in
17:04
the city. Now, in addition to
17:06
the other things that were off, the
17:08
car situation began to nag at
17:10
Lauren. At 12.43 PM, before
17:13
they left for New York, Lauren
17:15
texted Jennifer. She was looking
17:18
for Noelle's iPad, but couldn't find it
17:20
and wanted to know if she could
17:22
use one of Jennifer's for the long
17:24
drive. Jennifer didn't reply, so
17:27
Lauren decided to just take it so
17:29
that she could drive the kids in
17:31
peace while they stayed occupied. At
17:34
2.30, they arrived at Gloria's apartment but
17:36
still hadn't heard from Jennifer. Lauren
17:39
was kind of worried, but also just
17:42
wondering what could have been taking so long
17:44
at the doctor. At 4
17:46
PM, Lauren called Jennifer again. She
17:49
figured by this time, surely
17:51
even a very busy mother with five
17:53
kids would have been able to sneak
17:56
a text to the nanny. But
17:58
the call went straight to voicemail And
18:00
it was at this point that Lauren
18:03
couldn't ignore everything that
18:05
had been off that day. And she
18:07
knew that something was very wrong. But
18:10
with five children with her, she
18:13
didn't want to panic or worry them. So
18:15
she tried to play it cool. Lauren
18:18
contacted a few of Jennifer's close friends and no
18:20
one had seen or heard from her. A
18:22
little while later, Jennifer didn't show up to
18:25
the orthodontist appointments the kids had. But
18:27
showing up for appointments was completely unlike Jennifer,
18:30
especially when it came to her children. Finally,
18:32
Lauren felt she couldn't put it off anymore. She
18:35
needed to go to the police and just before 7
18:37
p.m., Jennifer Doolis was reported missing
18:39
to the new Cannon Police Department. Not
18:42
long after, her suburban was found parked
18:44
on Lapham Road, near Waveney
18:46
Park, about a mile south of her
18:49
home. The lights were still in the
18:51
on position, the battery was dead, and
18:53
the car had been left in reverse. There
18:55
was what appeared to be blood spatter on the passenger side
18:57
of the car. Just
19:00
before 9 p.m., Lauren called
19:02
Fotis basically at the
19:04
request of the authorities, since she had
19:06
the children and Jennifer was
19:08
missing. Fotis only asked about
19:11
the kids and didn't ask
19:13
about Jennifer at all. He
19:15
requested that Lauren have them ready
19:17
for their scheduled visit, on time
19:19
in the morning. Lauren
19:22
had refused to participate in
19:24
the custody exchanges long
19:26
before that, due to how
19:28
nasty Fotis had treated her. And
19:31
this upcoming visit would be no different.
19:34
Lauren had no plans of dropping them
19:36
off with him. At
19:38
9 a.m. on Saturday, the 25th, a
19:41
detective from the new Cannon Police Department
19:44
asked Fotis to come in and
19:46
cooperate with the investigation. They
19:48
agreed to meet around noon. But
19:50
Fotis didn't show up until almost 3 p.m.
19:54
A detective asked him for his phone
19:56
and Fotis voluntarily unlocked it.
20:00
could be placed on airplane mode.
20:02
He also revealed the passcode to the
20:04
phone. 0 0 0
20:07
0. Despite not having a
20:09
search warrant, the phone was
20:11
immediately seized as evidence. Police
20:13
were however, able to get a search
20:16
warrant about six hours later for
20:18
the data on the phone. The next
20:20
day around noon, FODAS showed
20:22
up unannounced at Gloria Farber's
20:24
apartment, demanding to see the
20:26
children. The building's doorman had
20:28
already been worn. Not to let
20:30
him enter. Around five hours later,
20:33
FODAS texted Lorne from a new
20:35
phone number, asking her
20:37
to give him an update on the
20:39
children every three hours, but once again,
20:41
he didn't seem to have
20:44
any questions about Jennifer
20:46
or whether she had been found. And
20:49
I found, you know, this so odd
20:51
more, I'm sure authorities did as well.
20:53
And people in Jennifer's
20:55
life, I get it. The
20:58
relationship went south, but
21:01
this is still the mother
21:03
of your five children. And
21:06
you're not going to express
21:09
even an ounce of concern
21:12
for the fact that she seems to be
21:14
missing. I mean, what kind of monster does
21:16
that? And I know sometimes we
21:20
put a lot in the house, somebody acts and
21:23
what they say or don't say, or they
21:25
don't act, and it sometimes
21:27
looks suspicious. And I know we
21:29
can't always tell what somebody's thinking or
21:31
what their motives are by how they
21:34
act, but it definitely comes across as
21:37
kind of cold and not caring
21:40
and maybe suspicious. Yeah,
21:42
I would think to police at
21:44
the very least it would be
21:47
suspicious because it just
21:49
doesn't seem natural. I
21:51
mean, even if you held a
21:53
lot of animosity towards a
21:55
person, at one point you
21:57
were in love and you still.
22:00
have five children together, you would
22:02
think the thought of
22:04
that person going missing, there
22:06
would be, even at the
22:09
the basis level, some concern.

24:17
came to believe that Jennifer had been the victim
24:19
of a very serious assault in her garage. Blood
24:22
was found on the park Range Rover. Some
24:24
of it looked to be patterned like someone touched the
24:26
car with a bloody gloved hand. And
24:28
spatter on the garage floor as well as the underside
24:30
of the Range Rover. Detectives
24:33
showed Lauren Fotas at the garage and
24:35
she was able to determine that two camping
24:37
pillows that the kids used and
24:39
a bucket of cleaning supplies used by the
24:41
housekeeper were missing. On
24:43
the evening of May 31st, Fotas
24:46
and Michelle were at a private
24:48
water ski club in Avon, Connecticut
24:50
attending a barbecue when they
24:53
saw that news about the two of
24:55
them was breaking. Based on
24:57
the search warrant for his phone, authorities
24:59
had determined that Fotas had traveled
25:02
to Albany Avenue
25:04
in Hartford where there
25:06
is an extensive network of
25:08
surveillance cameras and that
25:11
he had thrown away multiple bags of
25:13
trash and other items, including
25:15
a WeatherTech floor map and different
25:18
trash cans along the road on
25:20
the evening of May 24th. When
25:23
they realized what was happening, they immediately
25:25
left the club. As they walked
25:28
away, Fotas was witness to
25:30
be already making a call, presumably
25:32
to a lawyer. That
25:34
same day, authorities seized his
25:37
Ford F-150 Raptor, which
25:39
was seen driving down Albany
25:41
Avenue the evening that Jennifer
25:43
disappeared. The next day,
25:45
arrest warrants were issued for
25:47
both Michelle Traconis and
25:50
Fotas Doolos for tampering with
25:52
evidence and hindering prosecution. They
25:55
were both taken into custody without incident.
26:00
The time-crossing was searched on June 3rd. Not
26:02
much was found, but one thing of
26:04
interest was a set of handwritten documents. Michelle
26:07
insisted they were timelines, or
26:09
authorities would call them alibi scripts. They
26:12
covered May 24th from 6.40 a.m. to 5.10 p.m. There
26:16
was one timeline written by Michelle that listed
26:18
them waking up together and taking a shower.
26:21
The timeline written by Fotis mentions a call
26:23
from his friend, a man
26:25
named Andreas Tutiaridis. Another
26:28
timeline mentioned a trip to Albany Avenue.
26:30
Both Michelle and Fotis were released on bond 10
26:32
days after they were brought in. On
26:35
October 26th, Michelle's things were
26:37
removed out of Ford Jefferson Crossing. She
26:40
and Fotis had officially broken up, though
26:42
it's believed they hadn't had any contact since
26:44
their arrest. The day after Christmas,
26:47
Fotis asked a judge to dismiss the pending
26:49
divorce case with Jennifer and to grant
26:51
him full custody of the children. But less
26:53
than two weeks later, Fotis was arrested
26:55
a second time and charged with
26:58
the kidnapping and murder of his estranged
27:00
wife, Jennifer Doolos. Michelle Traconis
27:02
was also arrested again, and
27:04
this time charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
27:07
Kent Malwany, a lawyer and
27:09
friend of Fotis's, was also arrested. He
27:11
was trying to flee to Massachusetts, and
27:13
he was charged with conspiracy to commit murder. So
27:16
Morph, there's a couple things that
27:18
I kind of want to dissect.
27:22
The first being Fotis
27:25
and how arrogant
27:28
he seems to be. I mean, here's
27:30
a guy who is being
27:32
looked at for the
27:34
disappearance and possible murder of
27:36
his wife, yet he
27:39
has the nerve to
27:41
ask the judge for full
27:44
custody. That really jumped out at
27:46
me. And then you
27:48
go back to this surveillance footage
27:51
of him kind of driving
27:53
along and throwing
27:56
things away at multiple stops
27:58
in two different tracks. cans,
28:01
not a great look when your
28:03
estranged wife has gone missing. And
28:06
then lastly, these timelines
28:09
or alibi scripts as
28:11
the authorities called them, very
28:15
interesting to me that the
28:17
two of them would sit down and
28:19
write these up. I mean, doesn't
28:22
it almost seem like they're
28:24
trying to chronicle what they
28:27
did in order to cover their
28:29
behinds? Because
28:32
I can tell you right now, I don't
28:34
sit down on a daily basis and just
28:36
write down everything I do from hour
28:38
to hour. Yeah, you
28:40
go back to looking at
28:42
somebody's actions, how they're
28:44
reacting, how they're not reacting, if they're
28:46
showing sympathy or
28:50
questioning what happens to the mother
28:52
of their children and you can't make a lot from that.
28:54
But here on top of that, you've got him making
28:57
these mysterious lists that
28:59
are almost as if they're trying
29:01
to get their story straight so you can see
29:03
why that's suspicious. But this
29:05
case really seems like it went from
29:08
zero to 60 quickly. Obviously,
29:10
he would have been looked at closely by police,
29:13
but here they've got all kinds of different
29:16
surveillance stuff that's
29:18
basically tying everything together
29:20
and these charges came down
29:22
quickly. Yeah, it really
29:25
did seem like that was the
29:27
case. But my thought
29:29
is it's not always just
29:31
one thing. And I don't think
29:33
it normally is. It's a culmination
29:37
or a number
29:39
of things that kind of all
29:41
converge. Right. So the
29:43
surveillance video, the not
29:46
asking questions about Jennifer,
29:49
these timelines, you
29:52
put all of that together and
29:54
it just looks horrible. And then
29:56
I also thought it was very telling that
29:58
it seemed as though... So Michelle
30:01
and Fotis kind of
30:03
had a falling out, didn't want to
30:05
have anything to do with each other. The
30:07
arrest warrants were very detailed and
30:10
painted a clear picture of
30:12
what investigators believe happened on
30:14
and around May 24, 2019. The
30:18
star witness for the prosecution would
30:21
be a man named Pavel
30:24
Gumienni, a former four-group
30:26
employee. He had been working
30:28
for Fotis before the company was
30:30
even founded and had worked
30:33
his way from Handyman up to
30:35
Project Manager. He was granted
30:37
total immunity for his testimony
30:40
and cooperation because in order to
30:42
tell the truth about Fotis
30:44
and Michelle, he would
30:46
also have to implicate himself due
30:49
to a few suspicious actions. Some
30:52
people believe he's more involved
30:54
than he has admitted, but others
30:57
just think that all signs pointed
30:59
to a potential frame job of
31:01
him on the part of Fotis.
31:04
About two weeks before Jennifer's disappearance,
31:07
Fotis had asked Pavel if he could move his
31:09
truck. The Toyota Tacoma was normally
31:11
parked at Ford Jefferson Crossing during the
31:13
work week while Pavel used one
31:16
of the four-group vehicles, but it
31:18
was leaking oil and power steering fluid. Supposedly,
31:20
to protect the driveway and the garage,
31:23
the Tacoma was moved from Ford Jefferson
31:25
Crossing to 80 Mountain Spring
31:27
Road, another four-group property.
31:30
On May 23, Fotis told Pavel
31:32
not to come into the office the next morning.
31:35
That evening, Fotis met up
31:37
with Kent Malwini based on phone pings
31:39
and surveillance footage at or
31:41
near 80 Mountain Spring Road, where the
31:43
Tacoma was now parked. We don't know
31:46
what they were doing there or why they
31:48
met up. At 4.20 am
31:51
on May 24, the
31:53
alarm on Fotis' cell phone went
31:55
off. It was silenced at 4.21. This
31:57
is much earlier than the day. earlier
32:00
than his normal wake up time, which
32:02
was closer to 7 a.m. At
32:05
535 a.m. Pavel's
32:08
Toyota Tacoma left 80
32:10
Mountain spring road at 636 a.m. It
32:14
was spotted on a traffic camera
32:16
in the southbound lanes of merit
32:18
Parkway, passing the Fairfield
32:20
rest area. A bicycle can
32:22
be seen in the bed of the truck at
32:25
703 a.m. It was
32:27
spotted again, still heading south
32:29
on merit Parkway, this
32:31
time passing the new cannon rest
32:34
area at 705 a.m. A
32:36
school bus driving down Lapham
32:39
Road recorded on its surveillance
32:41
video and empty turnout on
32:43
the side of the road at 720 a.m. Ken's
32:47
phone began to ping from
32:49
the tower that covers for
32:51
Jefferson crossing. Just 20 minutes
32:54
later, around 70 miles away,
32:57
another school bus passed the turnout
32:59
on Lapham Road. This time that
33:02
bus's security system recorded a
33:05
Toyota Tacoma park there. This
33:07
spot is just 100 feet from
33:09
where Jennifer's suburban would be
33:12
found abandoned later that evening.
33:14
Around this same time, a man
33:17
on a bicycle was captured on
33:19
surveillance cameras passing 376 Weed Street.
33:23
This would be on the route from
33:25
Lapham Road to Wells Lane. Investigators
33:27
believe that Fotis used the bike
33:29
seen in the bed of the
33:31
Tacoma to bike to Jennifer's
33:33
home, where he waited for her
33:36
to come home from dropping off the kids,
33:38
hiding the entire time. At
33:40
around 8 a.m., Pavel took the
33:42
four group F-150 Raptor from
33:45
his home in Simsbury to work on a
33:47
property in New Cannon. At 8.24
33:49
a.m., Fotis' phone received a call
33:51
from his friend in Greece, Andreas,
33:54
and it was answered by Michelle Traconis, who
33:57
claimed that Kent told her to answer. It
33:59
lasted just. 17 seconds. Just
34:02
before 10am, Pavel arrived at
34:04
61 Sturbridge Hill Road, the
34:06
property he was helping to renovate for the foregroup.
34:09
This is confirmed by the Raptors OnStar
34:11
tracking system. The truck was there until
34:13
around 12.30pm. At
34:16
10.25am, Jennifer's suburban was seen
34:19
leaving her home. In
34:21
the police theory, this
34:23
was Fotis driving, not Jennifer.
34:26
By this time, she had already
34:28
been either killed or incapacitated, and
34:31
was being transported away from the
34:33
crime scene by Fotis. The
34:36
blood in the garage proved that this was
34:38
where she was attacked. The
34:40
shaved head the children were admiring
34:43
was really preparation for this
34:45
attack. He didn't want to
34:47
risk leaving any of his hair in the
34:49
garage somewhere there would be no
34:51
excuse for it to be. This
34:54
Jennifer never would have allowed him
34:56
inside. The newly shaved head
34:59
also happened to match
35:01
the normal haircut of
35:03
Pavel Gumienni, whose truck he
35:05
was driving that day, and who also happened
35:07
to be in New Cannon that
35:09
very day. So, perhaps Fotis
35:12
wanted it to appear that
35:14
Pavel was driving his own truck around
35:17
and not him. Or perhaps if
35:19
any witnesses saw anything, Pavel
35:21
might be suspected. And
35:24
this is where the belief by some
35:26
comes in that maybe Fotis
35:28
was trying to frame Pavel.
35:31
At 10.38am, Jennifer's phone pinged near
35:34
Lapham Road, where a car would be
35:36
found abandoned. At 11.09am,
35:38
her phone was turned off. It
35:40
stopped pinging and completely dropped off the network.
35:43
Just three minutes later, the Toyota Tacoma
35:45
is seen driving north on Merritt Parkway. At
35:48
12.22pm, the Tacoma returns to
35:51
80 Mountain Springs Road. At
35:54
1.33pm, text on Fotis' phone
35:56
that went unread all day were
35:58
finally opened and phone calls were
36:00
returned. We can assume that Fotis
36:03
biked or ran the two miles from 80
36:05
Mountain Spring Road to Fort Jefferson Crossing, where
36:07
his phone had been all day. There is a
36:10
gravel access road that he was familiar with
36:12
from dirt bike riding that runs
36:14
between the two areas. It's believed
36:16
after this he and Michelle drove to
36:18
80 Mountain Springs Road. Just
36:20
before 5 p.m., Pavel showed
36:22
up at 80 Mountain Spring Road
36:24
looking for his truck. He
36:27
wanted to drive at home for the
36:29
weekend, and he also wanted to take
36:31
home his dirt bike, which he kept
36:33
at Fort Jefferson Crossing so that
36:35
he could ride it over the long
36:37
Memorial Day holiday weekend. Fotis
36:39
and Michelle both look surprised to see
36:42
him. Fotis tried to convince him
36:44
to keep the Raptor for the weekend, but
36:46
Pavel wanted his own truck. It
36:49
was easier to park, better on
36:51
gas, and didn't have an extended cab,
36:53
so it was easier to load his
36:55
dirt bike. Fotis followed the
36:57
Raptor in his suburban to
36:59
Fort Jefferson Crossing, and Pavel got
37:01
in. They headed back to 80
37:04
Mountain Spring Road so that Pavel
37:06
could drive his Tacoma home. When
37:08
they arrived, Michelle Traconis had
37:11
left, and the key to
37:13
the Tacoma, which had been in
37:15
the passenger door just before
37:17
Pavel and Fotis left, was gone
37:19
too. Fotis had to call her
37:22
and tell her to bring the key back. Finally,
37:24
Pavel got his key and left. He
37:27
loaded the dirt bike into the truck at
37:29
Fort Jefferson Crossing, and then
37:31
he drove home to Simsbury. Pavel
37:34
left, and Fotis and Michelle were
37:36
very busy. She was seen
37:38
from neighboring surveillance cameras driving the Fort
37:41
Group Duperique back and forth from
37:43
80 Mountain Springs Road to Fort
37:45
Jefferson Crossing multiple times. Smoke
37:48
was seen coming out of one of the chimneys
37:50
at Fort Jefferson Crossing at least
37:52
three separate times, coinciding with the
37:54
times that Michelle arrived and left in the
37:56
Jeep. Based on the surveillance, it
37:59
seemed clear that evidence of some kind was
38:01
being disposed of in the fireplace. Just
38:04
after these fires, the two drove to
38:06
Albany Avenue in the Raptor. Investigators
38:09
would later recover trash bags, cleaning
38:11
supplies, and a t-shirt and
38:13
bra stained with Jennifer's blood. The
38:15
bra and shirt had been sliced down the middle. And
38:19
more, if I think this is what
38:21
you have with a case that occurs in 2019,
38:23
I mean, just think
38:27
about all of the surveillance
38:30
video that we've talked about.
38:33
Surveillance video coming from
38:36
houses, businesses, a school
38:38
bus, multiple school buses. These
38:41
are the types of things that wouldn't
38:43
have been available, let's say, in the
38:46
1970s. So
38:48
the police have all this information that
38:52
maybe before they would have had
38:54
to try to get from eyewitnesses.
38:56
And if there were no eyewitnesses,
38:59
it's just stuff they wouldn't have known.
39:02
But you'd have to say that a
39:04
lot of this stuff is very damning. Yeah,
39:08
I think it definitely helped the police connect
39:10
the dots and build a timeline here. And
39:13
going back to the surveillance, as
39:16
years go by, it just seems like it's more and
39:18
more common. Even the buses, in
39:20
this case, had surveillance systems on them. So
39:22
it seems like it's going to be harder
39:24
and harder for people to get
39:26
away with stuff the more that this
39:28
stuff is readily available and out there. Yeah,
39:31
and we keep talking in episodes
39:33
about how many
39:36
homes now have the
39:38
doorbell cameras and what's
39:40
being captured on
39:42
those. It's kind of amazing. But
39:45
I think back to a lot of
39:47
the unsolved cases that we've done, and
39:49
it seems as though the problem that
39:51
police often have is they don't have
39:53
that first clue that tells
39:56
them in what
39:58
direction to head. Well,
40:01
with the surveillance video, they
40:04
definitely have that. And it seems
40:06
like it leads to them going
40:08
down the correct avenues
40:11
because they have a good place
40:13
to start or multiple places
40:16
to work from. On
40:19
May 29, the Tuesday after
40:21
Memorial Day, Pavel returned to
40:23
work. Fotis and Michelle took
40:25
his Tacoma to the car wash and
40:28
paid $250 for a full
40:30
detailing, something Fotis had
40:32
never done for any employee
40:35
before. Fotis also convinced,
40:37
more like pressured Pavel,
40:39
into changing the Tacoma's
40:41
seats. Pavel didn't want
40:43
to, but Fotis wouldn't let it go.
40:46
When Pavel said he couldn't find any seats for
40:48
a good price, Fotis told him
40:50
to take the seats from a Porsche Cayenne.
40:53
He had wrecked and wasn't using. They
40:56
didn't fit the Tacoma, but Fotis
40:58
was insistent. He also told
41:00
Pavel to throw away the old seats. Though
41:03
Pavel did remove the seats from the
41:05
Tacoma, he kept them. The
41:08
poor seats were just placed inside, making
41:11
the truck basically unusable. A
41:13
drop of Jennifer's blood was later
41:15
found on the passenger seat fabric.
41:18
If Pavel hadn't been open with
41:20
detectives, it's pretty easy to
41:22
see how it could have played out
41:25
with him ending up being arrested. A
41:27
man with his build and haircut, driving
41:30
his truck in the town
41:32
he would admit to being in that day,
41:35
and then Jennifer's blood in his car. Instead,
41:39
he contacted a lawyer who helped
41:41
him legally navigate his cooperation
41:43
with police. I
41:45
think this is just one more incident
41:48
that kind of really stands out. This
41:51
Pavel guy had worked for
41:53
Fotis for a long time. When
41:55
you know someone for a long
41:57
time, you work for them for a long time, time,
42:00
you know how they act. This
42:02
wasn't a guy who just
42:05
offered up to detail
42:07
your truck and pay $250. And
42:11
most people don't. Why would they? And
42:14
then this whole insistence about changing
42:16
out the seats in the truck
42:19
and using seats for
42:22
what is a very expensive car, Porsche
42:24
Cayenne. Now I get it, it was
42:26
wrecked, but you know, using
42:28
seats from that, that don't even fit.
42:31
It's just all leading you
42:33
to believe that something
42:35
hinky is going on. Yeah.
42:37
And you wonder if Pavel started
42:39
to suspect that maybe
42:42
he's being set up
42:44
for something. You know, this whole
42:46
involvement with his vehicle now, and
42:48
now Fotis even has his hairstyle,
42:51
maybe he sensed he was going to be a Patsy
42:53
here and that's why he decided to
42:56
cooperate, but yeah, I don't know about
42:58
you, but if somebody asked me to suddenly change
43:00
my seats out, was offered to detail my
43:02
truck for me, I'd be like, okay, something's,
43:05
something's very fishy here. Yeah. And
43:07
back to your question, I do think
43:09
that he got suspicious. I
43:11
think it's the reason why he
43:13
kept the seats from
43:16
the Tacoma, even though Fotis wanted
43:19
him to get rid of them. And then
43:21
I think it's why he contacted a lawyer.
43:23
He knew something very wrong
43:27
was happening and that it could be
43:29
at his expense. For the
43:31
other three people who didn't cooperate, Bond
43:33
was set quite high, $6 million
43:36
for Fotis, 2.1 million
43:38
for Michelle and 2 million for Kent.
43:41
Michelle was the first to be released under
43:43
the conditions. She wear a GPS ankle monitor
43:46
and comply with the terms of house arrest. The
43:48
next day Fotis was released on
43:50
the same conditions. Immediately it
43:52
was discovered that two properties Fotis put up
43:55
as collateral on the bond were in foreclosure.
43:58
On January 3rd, the terms of Fotis's
44:00
house arrest were made more strict due
44:02
to the bond issue and also because
44:04
Fotis had violated the terms by
44:07
leaving his home to tear down a memorial to Jennifer
44:09
at the end of the road. And
44:11
I don't know exactly, you know, all
44:14
the ins and outs of bond
44:16
and bail and all that, but
44:18
it did seem very strange to
44:20
me that even after it was
44:22
discovered that these two homes he
44:24
put up as collateral were in
44:26
foreclosure and after
44:28
it was learned that he violated
44:32
the terms of his house arrest by
44:34
leaving and not just leaving,
44:36
leaving to tear down a memorial to
44:38
Jennifer, that he would
44:40
still be allowed to
44:43
stay out. And I think the whole leaving
44:45
the home to take down the memorial is just
44:48
one more thing that doesn't look good
44:50
for Fotis. It seems again that
44:52
he's not concerned about her and
44:54
is even tearing down a memorial to
44:56
her. At noon on January
44:58
28, 2020,
45:01
Fotis had a bond hearing, but he didn't make
45:03
it. This was a pretty
45:05
important hearing. Due to the
45:08
foreclosure issue, his bond was expected to
45:10
be revoked and he knew he would
45:12
end up going back to jail until
45:15
trial or until he could come
45:17
up with a different way to put up the
45:19
$6 million. Around 11.30
45:21
a.m., his lawyer started worrying when
45:24
he wasn't responding to their calls
45:27
and he hadn't shown up to prepare for the
45:29
hearing. Authorities could see
45:31
on the monitoring system that he hadn't
45:33
even left the house, even though he
45:35
was expected in Stanford over
45:37
an hour away, likely because everyone
45:40
involved knew the stakes and also
45:42
the expected outcome of the hearing.
45:45
A wellness check was immediately performed.
45:48
Fotis was in his 2015 suburban,
45:50
with a hose running from the
45:52
exhaust pipe to the interior of
45:54
the car. Next to him
45:57
in the car were photos of him with his
45:59
children. a Tylenol PM
46:01
bottle, and a roll of
46:03
electrical tape. There was also a note.
46:06
He proclaimed his innocence and
46:08
also wrote that Michelle and Kent
46:10
were innocent and that his
46:12
attorney, Norm Paddis, could explain why
46:15
he was seen throwing away those
46:17
trash bags on Albany
46:19
Avenue. Officers performed
46:21
CPR until an ambulance arrived, and
46:24
news choppers circled overhead, sketching the footage
46:26
of them attempting to save Fotis. But
46:29
he was pronounced deceased long enough that his
46:31
family and Greece were notified, and
46:33
it was announced live on the news. But
46:36
on the way to the hospital, a pulse was found.
46:38
Eventually, Fotis was taken in a Life
46:40
Star helicopter to the Jacobi Medical Center
46:42
in the Bronx, where they used
46:44
a hyperbaric chamber to try and get oxygen
46:47
back into his body to repair itself. But
46:49
the damage was too great and it didn't work. Gloria
46:52
Farber, who had been granted temporary custody of
46:54
the children, made the decision to
46:56
take them to the hospital to be able
46:58
to see their father one last time before
47:01
he was taken off of life support. On
47:03
January 30, 2020, at 5.32
47:05
pm, Fotis Dulles was officially
47:08
pronounced dead. On
47:10
March 3, the charges against Fotis
47:12
were formally dismissed, since he could
47:14
no longer face trial after ending
47:17
his life. On June
47:19
1, Gloria Farber's lawsuit against Fotis
47:21
was settled in her favor. She
47:24
was awarded $1.9 million from his estate. On
47:28
October 19, Kent Mulwenny
47:30
was finally released from jail after
47:33
posting a bond of $246,000. He
47:37
is also required to wear a GPS
47:39
ankle monitor and comply with the terms
47:42
of house arrest. On February
47:44
18, 2021, Ford Jefferson Crossing was sold for
47:46
$1.8 million. The
47:51
money went to Gloria Farber as part
47:53
of the civil lawsuit judgment. By
47:56
December 2021, Michelle Traconis
47:58
was living in Colorado. and
48:00
traveling back and forth to Miami to see family
48:03
in Connecticut for court dates, still
48:05
wearing the GPS monitor on her ankle. On
48:08
October 3rd, 2022, Kent Mulwaney
48:11
was re-arrested due to an issue with his
48:13
ankle monitor. The wires were intact,
48:16
but the surrounding cuff had been severed. Authorities
48:19
believed he had tampered with the device, but
48:21
he and his attorney denied this, instead
48:23
stating that it had broken from being worn for
48:25
two years. He was released from prison
48:27
once again on December 15th. On
48:30
April 6th, 2023, Michaepe
48:32
Conus was released from the condition of
48:34
wearing a GPS monitor. On May
48:36
15th of that year, Kent Mulwaney
48:38
was released from house arrest, but
48:40
he is still wearing a GPS monitor around his ankle
48:42
to this day. A probate judge declared
48:45
Jennifer dead in October 2023, citing evidence that
48:47
supports the
48:50
claim that Jennifer sustained non-survivable
48:52
injuries, according to court documents.
48:55
On January 11th, 2024, the
48:59
trial of Michelle Traconis finally
49:01
began. She was officially facing
49:03
charges of conspiracy to commit
49:06
murder, second degree hindering
49:09
prosecution, two counts of tampering
49:11
with physical evidence, and
49:13
two counts of conspiracy to commit
49:16
tampering with physical evidence. Due
49:18
to the class of felony that her
49:21
charges fell under, she only had the right
49:23
to a jury of six people under
49:25
Connecticut law. There were alternates,
49:28
which was a very good thing
49:30
because without them, there definitely would
49:32
have been a mistrial. Early
49:34
on, one juror told prosecutor
49:37
Michelle Manning that they loved
49:39
her. Another juror had been
49:41
posting on social media that this
49:43
case reminded them of the movie
49:45
Gone Girl. A third juror
49:47
had an emergency out of the country.
49:50
All three were dismissed from jury
49:53
service. On February 23rd,
49:55
the defense arrested their case. They
49:57
began deliberating on the 27th after a
49:59
long weekend. Over the
50:01
next three days, they spent about
50:03
12 hours total deliberating. They
50:05
asked to see the testimony of Michelle's best
50:07
friend, Clara Petude DePieran,
50:10
who was on the stand for about 38
50:12
minutes, and also asked for some
50:14
clarification on the wording of the tampering with
50:16
evidence charge. Judge
50:18
Randolph explained that accessural liability
50:21
did not require physical contact, meaning
50:23
just because she didn't physically throw any of those
50:26
trash bags away on Albany Avenue, being
50:29
there with Fotis while he threw them away was
50:31
enough for her to be considered as an accessory
50:33
legally. As the jury stated their
50:35
verdict of guilty for each charge, Michelle
50:38
slumped over onto the table and cried. Jennifer's
50:41
body has still not been
50:43
found. There's a potential clue
50:46
in Kent Malwini's behavior, though. In
50:49
March 2019, Malwini told
50:51
a friend of his that he was
50:54
interested in rejoining a gun club. He
50:56
had helped establish many years ago, this
50:58
friend told him about a hidden key
51:01
to the logging chain, blocking
51:03
the club's entrance, and told him to help
51:05
himself. He was a co-founder,
51:07
after all, Malwini's phone pinged
51:10
near the Windsor Rod and Gun
51:12
Club in East Granby on
51:14
March 29, less than
51:16
two months before two members found what
51:18
they called a human grate. The
51:21
three-foot deep hole was six feet long
51:23
and two feet wide. A
51:25
tarp and multiple unopened bags of
51:28
lime were down in the hole,
51:30
which was covered by barbeque grill
51:32
grates and buried by leaves
51:34
to hide it. The men removed
51:36
the barbeque grates and kicked dirt in the
51:39
hole to hastily fill it in, so
51:41
that no one would accidentally fall
51:44
into it. On May 22, one
51:46
of the men was at the club again and checked the hole.
51:49
The bags of lime were now gone, and
51:51
the hole was now a pit of mud, half full of
51:53
water. Malwini's phone pinged
51:55
at the club again at 11 p.m. on
51:58
the night of May 31. just hours
52:00
after Fotis and Michelle had been dumping
52:02
bags on Albany Avenue. We don't
52:04
know what he was doing there, of course, and
52:07
presumably whoever had dug the hole would
52:09
have noticed that it wasn't a secret when they went
52:11
to retrieve the lime, and saw the
52:13
grates had been removed. Assuming the
52:16
bags of lime belonged to Fotis or Mulwiny, it
52:18
seems likely that they were taken to another hole
52:20
in one of the many wooded areas in Connecticut.
52:23
Many people following the case believe that
52:25
Mulwiny knows the location of Jennifer's remains,
52:28
and are hoping the conviction of Michelle
52:30
Traconis shocks him into revealing
52:33
the location in hopes of a lighter sentence at
52:35
his own trial. The sentencing
52:37
hearing for Michelle Traconis is set for
52:40
May 31, 2024. The
52:44
first date that the clerk found empty
52:46
on the calendar was May 24, the
52:49
fifth anniversary of Jennifer's murder.
52:52
Everyone involved agreed that that
52:54
date would be inappropriate, and
52:57
it was moved to the anniversary
52:59
of the date that authority seized
53:01
the trash from Albany Avenue. Many
53:04
believe that this first proposed
53:06
date was a sign of
53:09
some kind from Jennifer or from
53:11
the universe that justice had been
53:13
achieved. Before Traconis is
53:15
sentenced, we should know what
53:17
is going on with Kent Mulwiny's
53:19
trial. His next court date on the
53:21
docket is May 15, and
53:24
it looks like they may finalize the
53:26
schedule for trial on that date. So
53:29
more if we wrap up this case,
53:31
it's a complex case, it's a
53:34
very interesting case,
53:36
it's also a very sad case. There
53:39
are so many times
53:41
and dates and sightings
53:44
due to the amount of
53:47
surveillance video footage that it's
53:49
almost mind blowing what police
53:51
have to work with. I find
53:54
it very hard to believe
53:56
that Kent is going to
53:59
come out of this thing unscathed.
54:02
I don't believe that Fotis
54:04
would have had he gone to
54:06
trial. We know that Michelle
54:10
was found guilty on multiple
54:12
charges. We're going to have to
54:14
wait and see what happens to Kent, but I
54:16
can't imagine it's going to be good. Now
54:19
there's unanswered questions in this case,
54:21
and obviously Fotis isn't around to
54:23
answer some of the questions, but you have
54:26
to wonder what was in it for Kent, what
54:28
was he getting out of it to help
54:31
put his freedom in jeopardy and
54:34
go to prison? Was there some kind of
54:36
financial gain? You know, and anytime
54:38
we talk about cases where there's multiple
54:40
people involved, it always amazes me
54:42
that one of them doesn't just step forward and say,
54:44
Hey, this is not a good idea. I don't
54:47
want to be part of this. We can't do this. And
54:49
it just shocks me when I hear these cases
54:51
where multiple people are involved in a
54:53
crime like this. Well, and I
54:56
think it's a great question about Kent. You
54:59
know, when you, you look at Fotis,
55:01
you look at Michelle, it's
55:03
pretty obvious to me
55:06
what their motives were, but
55:09
not as obvious when it comes to
55:11
Kent Malwiny. He wasn't
55:13
involved in the situation in
55:16
the same way that Fotis
55:18
and Michelle were. You know,
55:20
his happiness didn't seem to hinge on
55:23
the relationship,
55:25
the custody or anything to do with
55:27
Jennifer. So it had to have
55:30
been a tie with Fotis and
55:32
you know, you mentioned money. That might've
55:34
been it. I think we'll have to
55:36
wait and see what comes out at
55:38
trial. But I do want to go back to
55:40
what you talked about with Fotis because
55:43
he never actually went to trial.
55:46
There are some things that may
55:48
never be known. You know,
55:50
kind of what you're left with is
55:53
the prosecution's theory or
55:55
what they put forth
55:58
ahead of the trial. the one
56:00
person that can probably answer some of the
56:02
questions is Kent Maloney. And
56:05
maybe he's holding some of that as an ace in the
56:07
hole to get a
56:09
lighter sentence, um, to work out
56:11
some kind of deal and he'll
56:13
reveal what happened, what he knows,
56:16
what the benefit to him would have been.
56:18
And most importantly, probably where Jennifer's
56:21
remains are. And that's a
56:23
great point because you know
56:25
that her family wants
56:27
to, to find her remains, they
56:30
want to have a service, they want
56:32
to, to bury her. They want to
56:34
have a place to memorialize her. And
56:37
if Kent has that information, he might
56:40
be able to use it, but that's something that,
56:42
you know, we'll have to wait and see
56:44
on. But I will say this, I never
56:46
failed to be a mate at the steps
56:49
that some people will take when
56:51
it comes to, you know, finances, custody,
56:53
uh, just jealousy, things
56:55
like that.
56:57
And I go back to, you know, Fotis demeanor after
57:00
it was thought that Jennifer
57:04
was missing. I mean, that was the red flag
57:07
to me right there. It's like, you
57:09
don't even care enough to ask questions. Well, why
57:14
is that? Is it because you're not a mate? Or
57:16
because you already knew the answers to the questions, therefore
57:21
there was no need to ask the question.
57:24
You know, luckily it seems as though, despite
57:27
a lot of planning going into this and trying
57:29
to cover it up and get away with it, multiple
57:32
people involved, that kind of stuff, it
57:34
always seems that in many of these cases, as
57:38
well prepared as you think you might be, that you
57:41
make mistakes, and it's able to lead
57:43
investigators to answer some of the questions. And,
57:47
you know, in this case, there was
57:49
just enough clues and breadcrumbs for the
57:51
police to work with. And we do
57:53
have the answer to that. answers
58:00
that we do have now, thanks to that. And
58:02
it's a good thing, right? Because without some
58:04
of that stuff, you know, a lot of
58:06
these would, would probably go unsolved. But
58:09
that's it for our episode
58:11
on Jennifer Doolos. Again,
58:13
still some things to keep an eye
58:16
on in the upcoming month. If
