Jesus must have looked very foolish while hanging on the cross, especially knowing that he voluntarily put himself there. However, what looks foolish to the so called "wisdom of the world," is actually the brilliance of God. The cross declares what God's heart is like and it shows what sort of mission he conducts. The church can do no better than the mode, thinking, and replicating of the cross - it is the wisdom of God. Neither our fads or traditions will be able to do what a cross-centered form of transforming love can do. The church is a culture created by the cross, guided by the cross, and molded by the cross. When we embrace the manner of the cross, then we tap into the power of God.
