For our first recording of 2019, we invited Game Workers Unite‘s communications lead, Marijam Didžgalvytė, to talk about the past, present and future of game developer unionization, and GWU’s mounting efforts in the field. Within the conversation, we also touched on the hot topic we covered in episode 34. Namely, the often tumultuous relationship between publishers, developers and gamers.
Beyond GWU, Marijam is the creator and host of an educational video series called Left Left Up, which she publishes on her personal Twitter profile @marijamdid, whilst also archiving it on YouTube. And if that wasn’t an already impressive portfolio of work, she also contributes to outlets such as GamesIndustry.biz and Kotaku. You can keep up with most of Marijam’s online work through her Contently profile.
