On today’s episode we talk with NHL referee Garrett Rank. We caught up with Garrett just before the start of the 2021-2022 NHL season. Garrett has been an NHL official since 2016 and is from Elmira, Ontario.
Garrett played hockey like most Canadian kids but officiating has also been a big part of his hockey journey. Garrett’s Dad introduced him to officiating and he started refereeing minor hockey as a teenager. During the summers Garrett works on his other passion, golf.
Join us as we get a peek behind the scenes of an NHL game and we hear what it’s like to compete in the US Open. Garrett tells us some great stories and we get a lot of our questions answered.
Here are some of the fun things we talked about in our conversation today and where you can find them in this episode.
7:05 - How do you become an NHL Official?
9:46 - What happens before, during and after the game?
13:30 - Golf and the US Open
