This was my first time checking out an episode of Hardcore History, and I certainly picked a doozy. I grew up to Max Brooks' father's movies, and I have always been fascinated with the Greatest Generation. I wasn't sure what to expect from Max himself, but on the whole he is a critical thinker and history major that does a fine job balancing the difficult realities of the subject matter and offers some interesting solutions to our current dilemmas.Major takeaways from this episode, Dan compares our current situation to the Weimar Republic (something I have been saying for a year now) and Max talks about the problems of our victories in the nineties leading us to our current vulnerabilities. That's something I hadn't really thought of much, other than to realize that Russia herself came out of the nineties struggling for their new identity. I would counter some of Max's suggestions on restricting our liberties (read: more regulations) with this point; however, when his folks were going along with the program, they were fighting a world war. We aren't there, yet . . . even with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But we are now in a proxy war with Russia. Does that mean the citizens (we) should give up our liberties for the greater-good? No thanks. I liked the idea Max brought up about verifying comments from Joe Average, but I don't like it to a finite scope. Perhaps if a comment could at least be regionally geo-tagged, like NOT originating in China, India, Russia, North Korea, or Iran . . . that would be sufficient. I don't know if we can pull that off with VPNs in such wide use.It is troubling to admit to the amount of PsyOps we allow against our people, and we can all see the damage it is doing to our Republic, as the truth is becoming nearly impossible to discern.Anyway, I look forward to checking out more of these podcasts and will be keeping an eye out for future Max Brooks interviews.
