This is a fantastic Actual Play. The extra sound design brings the experience forward and the re-recorded lines give some top notch production quality. The story was compelling and the performers made it easy to follow. My only complaint is that in all the production quality of the re-recording, it makes the parts that aren't re-recorded stand out significantly. I wonder if in the mixing there's a way to bring both sides closer together for a more seamless experience.
Dark DiceThanks for the kind words :)We're getting closer to the quality match, and we're getting smarter about how we need to produce the show to make those jumps less noticed.
This horror podcast is absolutely brilliant. The soundscapes regularly give me chills and the story is beautifully acted out making you feel as if you are in the world with the characters. Can't wait for every new episode.
Dark DiceThanks for being our first review Eli! We hope that we can continue to deliver chills and feelz!
The atmosphere is chilling in exactly they way you would want from a horror D&D podcast. The narration is amazing, and the players do an excellent job staying in character! The character bios are beautiful little stories about the characters history. Turns the lights down and try to relax...
Dark DiceGlad you're enjoying it! Thanks Paul!
Exciting and very addictive! The DM and voice actors/players are excellent Excited for more!
tricky to rate! I'd say, mb 4? stars season one, 3/4 stars season 2 & 5 stars season 3. lots to love here, mostly in season 3 for me. I'm rly happy they have slowly been moving away from the harmful "sanity" system. cast of season 3 is incredible, & writing is much better, looking forward to where that goes!
This is so fun to listen to. I loved and will love every second of it!
Dark Dice is and actual play D &D podcast unlike anything you've heard before. The table talk is removed to be replaced by incredible sound design. The characters themselves are compelling, and enthralling to listen to. The show features strong elements of horror and touches on a slow descent into madness. If you are a fan of dark stories, fantastic scores, compelling roleplay, and all things that go bump in the night, this podcast is for you.
The first season was good, it really went down hill when Goldblum joined, delays after delays and a floundering story with no drive anymore. The final straw was the latest 'joke episode' that was just repeated mattress adverts in the actual content, I get that they need to have ads but keep them to the beginning and end putting them in the 'script' is ridiculous.
Dark Dice is the perfect actual-play podcast for those who love audio drama and aren't yet convinced that they'd love an actual-play; the way the actions of the players and characters are narrated adds an extra layer of immersion that's truly a joy to experience. Add to that the fact that this story revels in the darkness of its horror genre rather than shying away from it, and that all of the cast involved are clearly incredibly talented, and I'm only sorry I didn't start listening sooner!I discovered this podcast via falling in love with its music (nominated for 2020 Audio Verse Awards), and was pleasantly surprised to find that the podcast as a whole is EVEN BETTER than the music alone had led me to think it might be.
Dark Dice offers a superb blend of narrative, horror, and just enough tabletop humor to keep it from becoming too bleak. It may be a nightmare, but it's a well-edited nightmare with strong vocal talent finding their way through an eldritch tale of adventurers fighting against the relentless dark. Give it a listen.
I just finished the first... journey? of the series and I loved it! I will have to listen to it again when I'm not working so I can focus more closely on it. I also love the Pride Month episodes, they were such a lighthearted joy after all the darkness. ♥ Thank you
Adventure and horror that will keep you intrigued and wanting more!
Brilliant world building, great characters, wonderful chemistry between the players and the gm. Story is also super engaging and at times really scary. Spoiler alert: a bit George Martin'esque, be cautious with who you root for.
This is such a unique listening experience. The world is grim but the characters are lively. The horror elements are effective and often truly haunting. But within that tone, there are moments of levity so sly and understated, it feels like being slid a note, quietly and face-down, across a raucous table.
