Journalist Marc Fennell is joined live in the window of David Jones Bourke Street Mall during National Reconciliation Week 2019 by Danzal Baker (aka Baker Boy), Indigenous rapper and 2019 Young Australian of the Year, and Don Bemrose, accomplished opera singer and a ALNF educator with a focus on preserving Australia’s First Languages. In line with National Reconciliation Week, David Jones have launched ‘Literacy is Freedom’, a nation-wide fundraising campaign raising awareness of the Indigenous literacy gap in support of its charity partner, the Australian Literacy & Numeracy Foundation (ALNF).
In its fourth year in partnership with ALNF, David Jones has partnered with Australian brands Camilla, Viktoria & Woods and Academy Brand to release limited edition t-shirts for Reconciliation Week with all profits donated to the development, implementation and continuation of ALNF’s life-changing literacy programs.
ALNF’s community-driven initiatives in English and Indigenous First Languages empower local educators and community members to transform literacy and education outcomes with tangible and enduring results. In addition to t-shirt sales, until June 10 2019 David Jones will be donating the profits of five classic children’s books and offering a round-up donation service at every point-of-sale.
