Rachelle Khalaf is an award-winning public relations professional and media expert. She is the author of the blog Juggle. Hustle. Repeat. where she chronicles her life raising her children and caregiving for her husband, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Rachelle completed her Post-Graduate Certificate in Public Relations at Humber College and currently serves as a Senior Manager for Communications and Media Relations at the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, a multidisciplinary group practice. Rachelle draws from her profession as a strategic healthcare writer to shape her understanding of the unique circumstances involved in caregiving and provide support, life hacks, and solidarity for other caregivers.

Rachelle joins me today to discuss the challenges caregivers face and the hard work they do. She explains how she became her husband’s caregiver and describes how finding a community of other caregivers gave her the support she needed while taking care of her husband. She shares the letter she wrote to President Biden and discusses the different points she asks for the benefit of caregivers. She also describes how her children’s summer project to build a wheelchair ramp gained communal support and reiterates the importance of exercising our right to vote.

“Caregivers normally can’t be employed because they have to stay home for their person. If they can make Medicare accessible for people younger than 65 who have a disability, they should also extend it to their unpaid caregivers.” - Rachelle Khalaf
