An evening with author Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, one of America’s most astonishing new voices.

His internationally acclaimed debut, Friday Black is not so much written about, but perhaps more so, for this time. His stories remind us of sci-fi shows like Black Mirror and The Handmaid’s Tale. In twelve surreal, satirical and razor-sharp stories Adjei-Brenyah analyzes racism in America and denounces the culture of excess in our consumer-driven society. He shows what it is like to be young and black in America.

Following the publication of the Dutch translation of Friday Black, we are organizing a special evening with the American writer. Led by moderator Clayde Menso (CEO of Amerpodia) we’ll talk to Adjei-Brenyah about his artistic process, the social themes that he exposes in his stories and how (dystopian) fiction can be used to analyze our society.

Author Nisrine Mbarki writes in a similar way in her short story, De Matrice. We talk to her about her method and the way she uses dystopian fiction in her work.
