Dr Nachiketa Sinha, consultant psychiatrist is a dedicated professional working towards breaking stigmas. Working in New Brunswick, Canada since 2006, he has been active in initiating important changes to mental health delivery systems and has a unique ability to bring different stakeholders together for a common goal. He is also known for playing an instrumental role in the introduction of Community Treatment Orders (CTOs) in New Brunswick.


A graduate in Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine from Karnatak University, Dharwad, India, Dr. Nachiketa Sinha completed his training in Psychiatry at the Bedfordshire and Luton NHS Trust, Cambridge Deanery. He then went on to attain his post-graduation in Master of Business Administration in Healthcare from the University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business in Vancouver, Canada.  


As an assistant professor he has been involved in various academic activities including teaching and supervising medical students and residents in the Psychiatry department at Dalhousie University, since 2008 or 2009.


He is also an assistant professor with the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, N.S. He is also the author of an internationally recognized self-help book, Empowered and Strong.


Dr. Sinha moved to the Moncton area in NB, Canada in February 2016. Prior to this, he served the communities of Woodstock and Perth-Andover in the picturesque Upper River Valley. Some of his interests center around providing equity in treatment and he is recognized nationally for his role in providing culturally appropriate psychiatric care to the First Nations communities of New Brunswick. 


His work with First Nations communities involved teaching and educating stakeholders, including Health Canada, the New Brunswick Department of Health, the Assembly of First Nations, and local health authorities regarding such topics as:

• Mental health

• Mental illness

• The impact of residential schools 

• The impact of colonization

• PTSD

• Addictions

• Lateral violence

• Sexual abuse


He has and continues to regularly contribute mental health related information through social media including; LinkedIn and Twitter, and most recently he has started doing short videos on Instagram: @drnachiketasinha; please follow him to help spread the word in support of mental health.
