Hello listeners!! I got a new microphone but there is still some feedback and it amplified background noises. I will figure it out for future episodes so bare with me.
Why did hundreds of people willingly follow a madman to their deaths and murder their children? This episode is the first in a three part series on the Jonestown Massacre as I try to examine why people would do that. What was it about him? How could they look past his abusive controlling behavior and follow him? How did he prevent them from leaving? Those are some of the questions I hope to answer.
As for sources for this episode consist mostly of two books:
The Road to Jonestown: Jim Jones and Peoples Temple By Jeff Guinn
A Thousand Lives: The Untold Story of Hope, Deception, and Survival at Jonestown By Julia Scheeres
Some information comes from documentaries but they discuss little about Jim Jones up to the move to California so I will include them in the other episodes source list.
My email address is [email protected] email me questions to include in a Q and A, or tweet them at me my twitter thing is @walkswithus or post it on the Facebook group page. Don't message them to me as I don't think I will get them.
