Louise O’Boyle is Acting Head of Belfast School of Art, Ulster University and Secretary of GLADHE, the UK-based Group for Learning in Art & Design in Higher Education. Supporting the learning of students both inside and outside of the studio has been a key driver in the evolution of her research, leadership and teaching practices over the past two decades.  Her pedagogical research focuses on the construction of value-based praxis in Art and Design Higher Education learning and teaching.
Louise’s arts practice focuses on the interdependent relationship between emotional and physical wellbeing. Current work includes challenging attitudes towards mental ill health and the promotion of emotional wellbeing through socially engaged research and an eclectic practice of animations, performance and sculpture. In tandem, she is passionate about creating visual narratives informed by bioethical discourses on end of life care in the articulation of patient narratives as they live through the process of dying.
