Let’s look back on what the word says about Great Faith.

5 When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, 6 “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” 7 And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith. 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, 12 while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.

Matthew: 8:5-13

21 And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.” 23 But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.” 24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” 26 And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.

Matthew 15:21

The problem sometimes, is that you want things to be perfect, and you get frustrated when you lack the things that make your situation perfect.

If you knew how to have faith, you could answer the question, ‘why do you have weak faith?’

When we don’t know what ‘having faith’ looks like, we don’t know how to ‘just do it’.

There are three elements to the stories we looked at last week:
1. They had no other options
2. They humbled themselves
3. They knew there was power in Jesus words

In both stories, we see people who are running to Jesus with an issue.

What’s the one thing that can take your faith from good to great?

Faith is a state of the heart.

We hear ‘Faith without works is dead…’ Works require faith. A car without a starter is still a car, but a starter without a car is pointless. Works require faith in order to mean something.

Weak faith is the result of a heart issue; it is a control issue.

When you try to control faith, your control weakens the faith.

Gen 3:1-5

The serpent took Eve’s eyes off of the real issue, and disturbed her faith by a weak argument. The real issue at hand was Eve wanting to be like God.

The key to great faith is humility!

The Centurion was in high social status, and the Canaanite was the lowest of society, and they both came to Jesus. They both came to Jesus saying ‘I am not even worthy’.

These two people were not asking selfish requests. Great faith is meant for other people.

Sometimes our faith is weak is because its all about us. That’s pride!

We are about connecting people to Jesus! Great faith is for other people.
