There are different types of true crime podcast - ones that are purely informational and ones that are more chatty and this one falls into the chatty category so if you don't like that, you won't like this podcast. I generally don't mind a chatty podcast as long as it doesn't stray too far from the topic (I don't care about your spouse, your kids etc.)7 minutes into episode 2 and I hated it. But I listened to the rest to give it a fair chance. If you can actually get past the first 10 minutes of episode 2, it does get a bit better.I'm not sure if the set up is that one is telling the other a case they genuinely don't know (but I found it unbelievable that someone wouldn't know about Ed Gein , or the fact that Silence of the Lambs was inspired by him as two people in their thirties) and I can see this format working with more research into the cases (this is a monthly podcast so there's plenty of time to do the research,) but so far it does not.I'm hate to say it but that it seems that these days, women are judged more critically [than men] when it comes to podcasts; I've seen many reviews for other podcasts hosted by women that will simply dismiss them immediately if they deem them "annoying" for making the same content as men do. I think at the moment, this podcast will suffer that fate if they do not sit down and reconsider how they present themselves, especially within the first few minutes of the podcast. Other reviews are referring to them as insensitive but there are other podcasts out there that joke, too. Podcasts like LPOTL have covered Ed Gein and also made jokes that could have been seen as insensitive however, they had the luxury of time (around a decade) to grow in terms of maturity (though they most certainly do still joke in their episodes but they never joke about the victims, only the murderers) and research skills. They're lucky in that they did not have to fight off as much competition as podcasters do these days. Devils in the Dark do not have this luxury as the genre is now saturated. At the seven minute mark, many people will switch off because there are many, many other podcasts that do the same thing and do it better. I listened to episode 3 which is better than episode 2, perhaps because the crime happened in the UK and is more recent? But there are still things that need to improve.Unfortunately, so far the content of this podcast is not great. The cuts of documentaries are unnecessary. If I wanted to watch a documentary with 2 friends talking over it, I can do that without the aide of a podcast. Maybe starting your podcast off with such a hard hitter was a mistake. Two sponsors and one ad was also annoying in episode 2 and took up around 5 minutes of the whole run time. Once a month seems too long between episodes, most podcasters release one per week so I don't understand the thinking behind the release schedule if they intend to grow an audience. Jokes are fine but maybe consider which ones to keep in. If you've done research, make it more obvious - source the books for instance.Lots of podcasts have shaky starts. I don't want to be overly negative as I think they do have potential - I quite like their personalities and can see it developing into a decent podcast as long as they nip the bad stuff in the bud.
