Was expecting more but sadly all I hear is two 30 somethings, cackling and laughing over people being murdered. Distasteful and disrespectful, seems very unprofessional and not very well planned or researched
Unbelievably bad. Laughing at victims.... Seriously? At best it's outdated... At worst it's heartless. In my opinion this should be removed from platforms. Horrendous.
As an avid true crime listener, I have to say, this falls well below the usual calibre of true crime pods.Seems that the hosts are just reading scripted info and playing clips from other content… don’t actually seem to have done their own research or have any knowledge on the cases in hand or have anything to comment or add other than seemingly immature reactions.Combined with screeching and cackling that only seems in poor taste considering the subject matter, I definitely would not recommend.Such a shame as the idea of telling a friend about a case and catching genuine reactions could have been great if it was executed in a much more respectful and tasteful way.
Not for me, unfortunately. The hosts seem very uninformed on the subject matter, using other people's work and research while contributing nothing of note themselves, save to cackle about the brutal tragedies of real people, which I personally find distasteful. Smacks of bandwagon jumping, a poorly hosted and produced effort to latch on to an already oversaturated market. All around quite vulgar and unpleasant.
This feels very unorganised and just clips played from others peoples documentary’s with Helen sounding like she’s reading from a script. Plus the light heartiness and laughing is very insensitive to the nature of the topics
This podcast is promoted as being wildly different from other true crime podcasts. So, what's the twist? Ah, being wildly insensitive to the victims...This is all swept under the rug with the claim that it's supposed to be two best friends telling each other these stories as if they were down the pub.Going off of what I'm hearing from th podcast, I question who would actually be friends with these two heartless individuals. If I heard them talking down my local I think I would have a few choice words to say to these girls.Another twist is neither of the hosts can coherently tell a story. The narrative is so painfully all over the place and both sound like they are as thick as two short planks. The "experts" they claim to have come in and collaborate with them are nothing more that audio clips ripped off from other shows. If I wanted to hear an audio file from another true crime show I might as well watch the damn thing myself! There is nothing new with this podcast, it's dull as dishwater. The podcast blurb asks the question of whether Helen and Danni can "handle" true crime. The answer is blatantly obvious, no they can not!
As an avid listener of true crime podcasts, I was excited to listen to a podcast with a British twist, however I can honestly say this is distasteful trash. Two 30-something British women with dreadful accents cackling over murder victims in a manner probably similar to how they talk about their partners while drinking cheap prosecco in Wetherspoons. The helpful "experts" appear to be just audio clips. "She stabbed him 30 times, and then just to sh*t on his day she took his dog". Wow. Because being murdered is "a bit sh*t innit".
It’s just not good. I don’t know what to add that hasn’t been said already by the previous reviews… I think the worst (well, one of the worst) comments was that serial killer inspired horror movies, but where did they get their inspiration from ? So what, all the serial killers have to find the “inspiration” for their murders ? And everyone watching horror movie will use it to commit murder in the future ?? Do proper research before saying such ignorant remarks maybe !
This is an absolutely awful attempt at a true crime podcast, no respect for the victims with the two host's attempts at unfunny jokes and vile cackling.
Completely terrible. Tasteless, guttural humour with no care or thought put into it. I feel for anyone having to listen to this.
Open to changing my review upon hearing actual episodes, but good god this trailer was distasteful!Laughing over the death and pain of innocent people? Absolutely BIZARRE. Who funds this? Who came up with this Idea??A really disappointing and poor attempt at jumping on an 'easy' podcast trend that already fizzled out a year or two ago.Leave true crime to the thoroughly educated and respectful people who already have long established, carefully written shows. Painfully distasteful.
In an oversaturated number of true crime podcast, this seems to be so tasteless ! Hearing apparently uneducated (on the subjects) 30 something cackling at horrible death is just grim and disrespectful to the people who died. Might change the review after a couple of episode if the trailer actually misrepresented the show but I have little to no hope there.
I can’t quite put my finger on what style they were going for, but whatever style it doesn’t work! Laughing and questions about how killers got so many boyfriends( the episode that I listened too), is inappropriate and disrespectful to the victims of these crimes! A lot of the episode were clips from tv documentaries and there seemed very little planning or thought put into it. You can’t just hope for the best when it comes to true crime, there’s planning, researching and a certain way to portray the subject. These are peoples life’s that have been changed, not a fairytale.
Trying to join an already oversaturated market, this podcast has a special twist! It’s childish, crass, insensitive and badly researched. Never mind the worst cockney accent since Danny Dyer. Avoid at all costs.
Absolutely dreadful. Poorly researched, awful scripted delivery, distasteful, vulgar, ignorant and entirely unfunny. Not clever enough to deem their chatter dark humour. Comes off like it's done for the payday rather than any genuine interest. Not worth any more of my time and has put me off hearing any more ventures from Helen & Danni. Do they understand true crime discussions handles the subject of real life monsters and their real life victims?
I just finished episode three, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. This podcast is the style of a friend telling another a true crime story, with inserts from experts and interviews spliced in for context. If you're looking for a cold cut, serious, true crime podcast, this is not for you! If you're like me and looking for a true crime podcast that feels like hanging out with your friend and has a modern twist check it out! I have anxiety and the style of most true crime content is not consumable for me, so formats like this make the genre so much more accessible. Thank you Helen and Dani for the episode and I look forward to more! Ps. If you could do more eps on female culprits I'd be jazzed, cheers!
I was rather surprised to see so many negative reviews. I think it is a good format - one person telling her friend about a crime, inserting clips from documentaries and news. They make jokes and take the p*** a bit, so this wouldn't be for everyone, but maybe I'm easier-going than some. Keep it up!
I absolutely love listening to these awesome women and their gripping podcasts. It's like listening to mates having a chat about something I find so interesting and informative! They've clearly got great chemistry, don't make it boring at all and also funny with the occasional swear word thrown in too! 5 stars highly recommend *****
One of the worst podcasts I have ever happened upon.
There are different types of true crime podcast - ones that are purely informational and ones that are more chatty and this one falls into the chatty category so if you don't like that, you won't like this podcast. I generally don't mind a chatty podcast as long as it doesn't stray too far from the topic (I don't care about your spouse, your kids etc.)7 minutes into episode 2 and I hated it. But I listened to the rest to give it a fair chance. If you can actually get past the first 10 minutes of episode 2, it does get a bit better.I'm not sure if the set up is that one is telling the other a case they genuinely don't know (but I found it unbelievable that someone wouldn't know about Ed Gein , or the fact that Silence of the Lambs was inspired by him as two people in their thirties) and I can see this format working with more research into the cases (this is a monthly podcast so there's plenty of time to do the research,) but so far it does not.I'm hate to say it but that it seems that these days, women are judged more critically [than men] when it comes to podcasts; I've seen many reviews for other podcasts hosted by women that will simply dismiss them immediately if they deem them "annoying" for making the same content as men do. I think at the moment, this podcast will suffer that fate if they do not sit down and reconsider how they present themselves, especially within the first few minutes of the podcast. Other reviews are referring to them as insensitive but there are other podcasts out there that joke, too. Podcasts like LPOTL have covered Ed Gein and also made jokes that could have been seen as insensitive however, they had the luxury of time (around a decade) to grow in terms of maturity (though they most certainly do still joke in their episodes but they never joke about the victims, only the murderers) and research skills. They're lucky in that they did not have to fight off as much competition as podcasters do these days. Devils in the Dark do not have this luxury as the genre is now saturated. At the seven minute mark, many people will switch off because there are many, many other podcasts that do the same thing and do it better. I listened to episode 3 which is better than episode 2, perhaps because the crime happened in the UK and is more recent? But there are still things that need to improve.Unfortunately, so far the content of this podcast is not great. The cuts of documentaries are unnecessary. If I wanted to watch a documentary with 2 friends talking over it, I can do that without the aide of a podcast. Maybe starting your podcast off with such a hard hitter was a mistake. Two sponsors and one ad was also annoying in episode 2 and took up around 5 minutes of the whole run time. Once a month seems too long between episodes, most podcasters release one per week so I don't understand the thinking behind the release schedule if they intend to grow an audience. Jokes are fine but maybe consider which ones to keep in. If you've done research, make it more obvious - source the books for instance.Lots of podcasts have shaky starts. I don't want to be overly negative as I think they do have potential - I quite like their personalities and can see it developing into a decent podcast as long as they nip the bad stuff in the bud.
