RATING
Deviser is an absolutely phenomenal sci-fi horror audio drama. The voice acting, soundscaping, writing, premise, pacing, payoff... everything about this is top-tier. It got my theorist brain running wild and even when I thought I had a hold on it, I never knew exactly what to expect next. An absolutely wild ride that I would easily listen to another dozen times and still find something new every time.
Deviser is truly something special, few pieces of media have made me bolt to the edge of my seat as hard as this one! I love a good horror podcast, and the creative dark reality of this sci-fi horror chilled me to the core at times. I WILL be re-listening, and recommending it to all my friends because it IS that good. Listen to it!
This gave me heart palpitations. Incredible.
This was a trip and a half. Now, do pay attention to the content warnings; this is legit horror, and it gets dark. It is also very, VERY good. This is the kind of story that hurls your emotions like a bola. You think you know who to root for? Better not blink. You think you know what's going on? Not with *that* cameo! (Episode 3 for jaw-drop of the year.) Every episode is intriguing and thought-provoking, and the ending made me want to scream. It's definitely worth a re-listen, as well, to pick up on all the clues leading to one heck of a finale. In sum: solid. Super fun. Very dark. Content warnings apply. Put armor on your heart, and dive right in.
A gripping, emotional, terrifying and well paced horror story!
I have made several unfortunate decisions based on the lifestyle I choose. I took several debts to gamble with, and when I got the chance to make instant money with little risk and lots of profits. I jumped into it, I thought I would pay off all my debts and still have plenty. I wasn't stupid, I was just too greedy to see that I was being scammed that I kept investing hundreds of thousands in these crypto racketeers. Writing this review is the only good thing I have done in my life for years as I will be saving tons of people from falling prey to these Bitcoin investment racketeers. I got in touch with this programmer online, I was very open and honest with him, I just wanted to know if they can really help me retrieve my hijacked funds before dragging myself into another mess. He was very honest, and dealing with this programmer was enlightening. We achieved success together as he always says. My hijacked tokens were successfully traced and retrieved. This is yet another masterpiece by the diabolical One-Man-Show that's Harlan Guthrie and I was living for every second of it! The audioscaping and voice acting were amazing, and Henry also did so well! The theme is something so alive and it's so easy to sink my teeth into. If you like horror, scifi, gore, violence, bingeable series, Harlan Guthrie & questions about humanity and artificial intelligence, this is THE show for you. You will not be able to stop thinking about this show, I promise!
If you like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Event Horizon, or Moon, this is a must listen! It's truly chilling while at the same time fantastic fiction! I listened to this on a train and the sound quality was so good, I kept thinking noises in the podcast were regular trian noises. If you love a good mystery, an audio delight, and a sci-fi horror thriller, the listen to Deviser right now!
Deviser is a phenomenal work. It really makes you think about what it means to be human. The story is compelling, emotional, and downright terrifying at times. I would expect nothing less from Harlan.
A decent post apocalyptic gory survivor horror. The gore part isn't really my thing. I correctly guessed the concept from episode 1 but not the big twist at the end.
Not a bad production, amazing to be a one man gig. I enjoyed listening to this podcast although I found the plot to be a bit commonplace (happens constantly in sci-fi horror, isn't that bad) and sometimes the dialogues a bit silly or "tellish". Overall production is not bad at all.
Absolutely phenomenal but wouldn’t expect anything less from the creator of Malevolent! Immediately draws you in with classic elements in sci fi and horror while throwing some big twists in. Excellent show to binge!
Quick and to the point, Deviser is another good take on the future of humanity but add its original spin with the concept of Father and Son. What starts off as a seemingly cliched spaceship story will have you question everything with each plot twist. Definitely recommend this especially for how bite-sized the entire story is.
One of the best works of horror sci fi I experienced ever, the best one i heard in this medium. Incredible work of art.
I wanted to force myself not to binge listen the series, to savour it over a number of days. Well, finished it by day two lol. It is an incredible journey of hope, disbelief and horror. Thanks for the ride Harlan Guthrie! One of those series that you want to listen to over and over again.
A science fiction horror monodrama that is a coming-of-age story of sorts. The soundscaping makes the scenes of body horror feel visceral. The beginning of the first episode gives away much of the twist, which while providing some sense of dread, also made the first couple episodes feel slow. The story deals with themes of father/son relationships and the nature of humanity and includes biblical (each episode title refers to a day of creation) and literary (especially Frankenstein) references.
The production value is super high, especially as a one man show, but in every other way Deviser didn't work for me. It gives away most of the plot in its first episode, which robs the first several episodes of their tension as we wait for the protagonist (whom I did not find to be particularly likeable or noteworthy) to catch up. When the twists start to land, they range from "oh that's interesting" to "wow that's ridiculous" and the ending just kinda rolls up. Also can we stop associating this kind of horror with old-timey music? The main theme slaps but the Bioshock callbacks don't do the show any favors, and the particular choices play into the "I'm just so edgey" tone in a way I didn't care for.
