Ships Log Entry 10-14 Tully's

0:07

monsters were in the process of obtaining

0:10

information from the researcher, Mort,

0:12

before being interrupted by one of the

0:14

lycanthropy-afflicted researchers

0:16

assaulting the safe room's door. With

0:18

some quick planning and incidental

0:21

friendly fire, the team forced the afflicted

0:23

researcher into a containment tube. As

0:26

Mort continued their research, Tully's

0:28

monsters searched for the cause of the ship's apparent

0:31

self-repair functions, as well as

0:33

an unafflicted dwarf researcher. Moving

0:35

swiftly, the team soon arrived at the station's

0:38

breaker box. After shutting out the

0:40

lights on the station, Beaufort-Gubbins

0:42

damaged the breakers to draw out who, or

0:45

what, was fixing the lights on the station.

0:48

The team soon saw the cause of these

0:50

repairs. Gazers.

0:53

It was surmised that because gazers

0:55

are born from the dreams of a beholder, there

0:58

must be a sleeping beholder on the station

1:00

itself. As Maxina and Beaufort-Gubbins

1:03

contained the

1:04

gazers near the breaker box, Wendy

1:06

MacDonald followed the trail of gazers

1:09

to find the beholder creating them. As

1:11

progress was made on both of these objectives,

1:14

the team was suddenly interrupted by a

1:16

temporary big suck.

1:18

This big suck was able

1:21

to vent several gazers into space

1:23

and separated Tully's monsters further

1:26

apart within the station.

1:28

Wendy let herself be drawn to the

1:31

source of the big suck, which was caused

1:33

by a beetle-shaped ship named The

1:35

Thumper,

1:36

piloted by Wendy's Thri-Kreen ally,

1:39

Cordazar.

1:41

Beaufort was able to find his way

1:43

back to Max, while both continued

1:45

to neutralize threats. Beaufort

1:47

then disabled the station's artificial gravity

1:50

to further disrupt the gazers' ability to

1:52

make repairs. Wendy confided

1:54

to Cordazar about her fears of forced

1:57

lycanthropy, before the pair proceeded

1:59

down the sleeping beholder. Max

2:02

and Buford successfully found

2:04

the remaining researcher, the dwarf

2:07

Maya, and safely escorted her

2:09

back to Mort. While Maya and

2:11

Mort continued to work towards a cure

2:13

for lycanthropy, Wendy and

2:15

Cortazar found the eternally slumbering

2:18

beholder in the facility. After

2:20

brief deliberation, it was decided

2:22

that relocating this beholder back to

2:24

the Resubian would be the best course

2:26

of action. However, when

2:28

they attempted to physically

2:29

move the snoozing beholder, a wall

2:32

of gazers swarmed in to prevent any

2:34

unwanted beholder transportation.

3:09

So, a little background

3:12

about me as a person. I

3:14

am one of the whitest people you're ever gonna

3:16

meet. I hate this story already. I am.

3:21

According to my DNA breakdown,

3:23

I'm 98.2% white,

3:27

and part of that remainder is a literal

3:29

unassigned value they couldn't identify.

3:31

My girlfriend

3:34

is black. I was doing

3:37

laundry at a laundromat wearing her

3:39

Crocs, and

3:40

I looked down to realize that

3:42

her Crocs are covered in charms,

3:45

and all of her charms are

3:48

specifically

3:50

black woman focused.

3:59

The Black Girl Magic Crocs

4:02

is a very good term. One of them literally

4:04

says made with melanin.

4:07

Yeah, that

4:09

sure is some

4:11

crocs that you wore. So me,

4:13

White is Snow, wearing this on

4:19

several occasions actually.

4:21

Completely missing that this was

4:23

occurring. I mean, look,

4:26

my main takeaway is those are some really cute

4:28

crocs though. They are. They're

4:31

always popping. I can see right there from the made with melanins

4:34

thing there. This

4:37

is the vibe I have unintentionally put

4:39

out into the world.

4:41

This is a better opening than what I had planned, which

4:43

is talking about Bionicle. And I don't

4:45

know that I really should top that. What

4:48

the biological chronicle. Yes,

4:51

Laura, the biological chronicle. I

4:54

always liked the villains of Bionicle more

4:56

than the heroes because they always looked

4:58

cooler, but I wanted them to be the heroes.

5:02

You're a villain, fucker. We all can relate to

5:04

this.

5:05

Yeah, S.H.I.E.L.D.R.I.D. is my wife. Anyway,

5:09

we were playing Dungeons and Dragons last time

5:11

we were here. Bit

5:13

of a reminder of where we're at.

5:17

Wendy and Cordazar

5:19

managed to find a sleeping beholder

5:22

up in the top of this space station. It

5:25

is really churning out those gazes.

5:30

Wendy and Cordazar tried to move

5:33

this beholder going, yeah, we'll stick it

5:35

in the ship. We'll try and study it or something.

5:38

Big old wall of gazers got in the way

5:40

of getting to it.

5:42

The other half of the party,

5:44

I believe, were... Last

5:48

I remember you had gotten the

5:50

two scientists back together into their little vaulted

5:52

room. I don't remember if you'd

5:54

started heading anywhere after that.

5:57

Yeah, I think we were heading towards

5:59

the... the place

6:01

that everything was invented to, to try to meet up

6:03

with Wendy. Indeed.

6:06

So who wants to start having

6:09

an adventure? Who's got an idea

6:11

where they want to start today?

6:13

I know exactly where I want to start, but thinking about this

6:15

all week and the way that D&D

6:18

works is you can always stab after

6:20

you try something else, but you can't always try

6:23

something else after you stab. So

6:25

let's take the order of operations here. First

6:28

thing Wendy wants to do is roll.

6:30

Oh, she has a negative two to this, not great,

6:33

but performance to try to influence

6:35

the sleeping beholder's dream.

6:37

She wants to try to, you

6:40

know the way when someone's sleeping at

6:42

a frat sleepover, you put their hand

6:44

in warm water, try to make them pee themselves. I'm

6:47

trying to do something like that to get the beholder

6:49

to stop making gazers. So.

6:52

Okay. If you've got anything in particular

6:54

you're going to try and do to

6:56

change their behavior. I was thinking of looking

6:59

over at Cordisart and trying to be

7:01

like, you know, basically like a follow me

7:03

kind of gesture, a nod,

7:06

and then try to make like ocean noises. I'm trying

7:08

to turn whatever the dream is of gazers into

7:10

like a very neutral placid, just

7:13

like,

7:13

car, car. I

7:18

like the idea. Beholders

7:21

are not particularly, they

7:23

don't really manifest stuff unless it's other

7:25

beholders or, you know, beholder

7:27

subspecies.

7:28

So yeah, give

7:30

this performance a go. Let's see how this does.

7:33

Take him to Beholder Beach. Let's go. I

7:36

was expecting a terrible role there, but yeah. I'm

7:39

not trying to summon the ocean. I'm just trying

7:41

to turn off the gazer spigot.

7:45

I think you managed to stem

7:47

the tide of this gazer spigot.

7:49

I think that, you know, you're

7:52

still getting a couple popping out every now

7:54

and then, but it's not the torrential

7:57

fountain that it has been.

8:00

Alright, we did it Coco, I say. Turning

8:02

to Cordizar as we're doing our little wave noises.

8:05

And I think at this point we should cut

8:07

to the other group because this

8:10

is a great

8:11

end of scene, we did it. Yeah.

8:16

I'm trying to think if there's a role I can give you to

8:18

sort of get the trail, perhaps, of where

8:20

those two went. I'm trying

8:22

to think what sort of trail they might have left.

8:25

Cordizar was stabbing swords

8:28

into the walls to try to... I

8:30

mean you are correct, Cordizar was stabbing swords

8:33

into the walls. Can we get like

8:35

a survival role to

8:38

notice that there are some stab holes

8:41

going along the walls and ceilings? While we're

8:43

dodging all of these floating werewolves. 11

8:46

and 10. That's 11, yep. 11 and 10.

8:50

You don't immediately notice it, but like

8:52

eventually you do work out this is... That

8:56

is a bunch of like weirdly regular

8:59

marks into the walls. Look,

9:01

this could be like werewolves pulling themselves

9:03

along just as easily as it could be sword stabs.

9:06

But if you want to follow

9:08

the stab trail,

9:10

you can follow the stab

9:12

trail. You know what? I think Bufe would

9:14

be like, hmm, a bunch

9:17

of stab wounds going in a consistent

9:19

direction. That sounds like something Wendy

9:21

would do.

9:22

Sounds

9:24

like we're tracking down the Gorgon trail here.

9:26

While we're heading in the direction of the

9:29

trail of destruction, Buford's gonna ask Max, Max,

9:41

would you mind if I use you as

9:43

a sort of rubber

9:46

duck programming for a moment? I want to soundboard

9:48

an idea out loud.

9:52

Oh, okay. I'm not quite sure what the rubber duck

9:54

bit has to do with that, but go

9:57

for it. What is it? Rubber duck

9:59

programming is when you... you have a difficult issue

10:01

in engineering a program

10:03

and you talk to your rubber duck out loud

10:06

to work through the problem. In this case,

10:08

you are a rubber duck.

10:10

I mean, we do have a duck on ship though,

10:12

so I mean. He's not made of rubber, it doesn't

10:14

work. Oh, neither am I

10:16

though. But

10:19

what is it?

10:20

So I'm thinking about

10:22

this werewolf problem they have here. They're trying to

10:24

cure it, because of course every time

10:26

you turn into a werewolf, you turn into a raging

10:28

monster that destroys property and people.

10:31

I think they're missing the forest for the

10:33

trees here. They're trying to completely fix

10:35

an issue at the root. You could probably

10:38

make a break point

10:39

right at the loss of control. I

10:43

think if you treat that first, you have a way

10:45

easier and simpler problem

10:48

to deal with and a potential upside

10:51

at that point. So you're saying

10:54

having a way for them to transform, but not

10:56

lose control themselves. Exactly.

10:59

I think you could, the way I think I'd handle

11:02

this is you'd have to put in some sort of, let's

11:04

say, hormone monitor, maybe a

11:07

UV light detector to see if

11:10

the wavelength of the particular light

11:13

form is causing the transform. And

11:15

then you'd probably want sort of,

11:18

brain is just basically a hard drive, a big

11:20

wet wear hard drive that

11:22

records data, that sort of thing. If

11:24

you could take a dump of a person's brain

11:26

every, let's say 24 hours, and

11:29

then on detection of a transformation,

11:32

start force overriding the

11:34

brain repeatedly, as

11:37

it's changing, I wonder if you could

11:39

break that

11:41

transformation override

11:43

and reset it to a consistent

11:46

state. Okay,

11:48

I think I understand some of that stuff.

11:52

It's almost like you're trying to overload

11:55

part of the brain so it doesn't activate

11:57

in a certain way during the transformation

11:59

or something.

11:59

Either overload it

12:02

or rewrite it once it's already been changed.

12:05

Or, actually, what would you even

12:07

really have to do that? If you could just shut down

12:10

higher brain function at that point

12:12

when they're changing, and

12:15

then sort of link it up, sort of take like a

12:17

mind flayer approach. Link all

12:20

werewolves on a certain Wi-Fi spectrum

12:22

up to a central database. Once

12:24

a change has occurred, reroute them

12:26

to a centralized area and shut down their

12:29

body's ability to be moved like that.

12:31

Instant containment. I...

12:36

hmm. I can't say I know how

12:38

much the overlap between biology

12:40

and, well, you

12:41

know, hard drive dynamics

12:44

can link up like that, but you're

12:47

more of an expert in this than I am, given your,

12:49

well,

12:51

half machine nature already, Buford. It's

12:55

basically just a big USB port, shove

12:58

something into it, it'll eventually work. I

13:00

think the main issue there is you need to find someone who's

13:02

willing to volunteer their brain to be put through

13:04

such a test to make sure it even works.

13:08

Ah, people are always afraid of ooh,

13:10

the side effects. Look at me, I turned out

13:12

fine. Yeah,

13:14

for sure. You sure did,

13:17

Buford.

13:20

So as you're following this

13:23

trail of stab wounds, I'm curious,

13:26

are

13:27

Wendy and Cordazar back on the plan of trying

13:29

to roll this beholder towards

13:32

the ship? Because I'm wondering whether this is

13:34

a sort of passing that the two of

13:36

you are going to come in opposite directions. Yeah,

13:39

I actually have an idea for this. So

13:42

as my fairy magic that I have,

13:44

I can cast Enlarge Reduce once

13:47

per long rest. So I think I'm going to reduce

13:49

the beholder by half because we're in zero gravity,

13:52

it'll be easier to move that way. I assume

13:54

it fails the save because it's asleep.

13:57

And then

13:58

I have Druidcraft. which gives

14:00

me a couple of options, one of which

14:02

is you create a puff of

14:04

wind. And so I was thinking in

14:07

zero G, the way this works, I'm not an

14:09

astrologist. My understanding is once an object

14:11

is in motion, it will stay in motion. So

14:14

just a little puff and then we

14:16

can kind of just follow at a distance. This

14:19

smaller beholder as it floats around

14:21

the station. And this will be easier than trying to like grab

14:23

it and like wrestle it at full size.

14:27

Yeah. Okay. So

14:29

I think I think the way this works is you do

14:31

start moving this beholder toward

14:34

the ship. And

14:37

once this beholder is moving,

14:39

you do start to notice

14:42

that the

14:44

gazers suddenly seem a lot less concerned

14:47

with fixing the ship. And

14:49

the gazers that have been created are

14:52

starting to position

14:55

themselves in the route that you're trying to move

14:58

the beholder. And they're, you know, they're taking a second

15:00

to get here. Like you are moving it, but

15:03

it's kind of slowing a little as

15:05

more gazers start to

15:08

try and get in the way of this movement.

15:11

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm imagining us

15:13

like, you know, making a little progress. Maybe we

15:15

get it into the hallway or something and then we have a really

15:18

badass old boy fight

15:20

or something where there's floating werewolves floating

15:23

beholder and all of us in space.

15:26

It's the equivalent of you're trying to push like you're

15:28

trying to push a wheelbarrow through a ball pit. Like

15:31

you can you can do it, but like it's

15:33

not it's not super convenient.

15:36

It's going to take you a second. Everyone

15:39

has that memory. Yeah, so I

15:41

think

15:41

this is the moment where um where

15:44

Buford and Max come

15:47

across this particular site of

15:50

a lot of a lot of gazers and a beholder

15:53

being pushed in opposite directions.

15:56

I'm just doing I'm

16:00

already down. I see. Well,

16:04

it looks like we found Wendy at least I can. I

16:07

recognize that tune anywhere. She's

16:10

always doing this shit even when it doesn't make any sense.

16:14

Hey, hey, is it you two that turned

16:16

off the gravity?

16:17

Yeah.

16:19

And who are you?

16:21

Oh, I'm, I'm Cordizar. Hi. We

16:26

got a sleeping beholder. We've been having a fun day. All

16:30

right, I guess this is happening now. What

16:32

are we going to do with said beholder? Bring

16:35

it back to the ship, goob goob. Don't you think

16:38

the captain's going to want to talk to him? Is

16:40

it, is it still spitting out gazers?

16:44

Like a couple every now and then it's,

16:47

it's no longer like full on snoring.

16:49

It's no longer. It's just

16:51

sort of. It's

16:55

a very different scale of production. Okay.

16:59

Okay. I guess we could just systematically

17:01

kill gazers every couple of minutes. That'd be

17:03

fine. There is

17:06

a giant swell of gazers

17:08

everywhere else on the ship though,

17:10

which is a big consistent issue right now.

17:14

Yeah. As you, as you say this, more

17:16

and more gazers are starting to join

17:18

the, the throng of trying to

17:20

push the beholder back into position. Part

17:23

of me is worried they're just going to merge together, become like a

17:25

really large gazer, just like don't

17:29

give her any ideas. So

17:32

my, my thought is we try to get to some kind

17:34

of air locker window, which has vent everything

17:36

out into space. I mean, that's where

17:38

I'm at, but I realized, you know, that

17:40

does

17:40

open us up to complications. But once

17:43

the gazers are, oh, they're just

17:45

into the black hole, right? Like that, that problem

17:47

solves itself. There is a very

17:49

appealing looking black hole right out there. Okay.

17:51

I, I have,

17:53

I have a potential idea here.

17:56

I think we did something similar to this before

17:58

with the, the.

17:59

the NFT Bozogs

18:03

are right at the start. I just need to see if

18:05

I can make an image of a real

18:08

beholder

18:08

on a piece of metal and

18:12

then just put it inside of an airlock.

18:15

See if we can trick them twice. Yeah,

18:18

I mean, I just had an incredible, well,

18:20

I should praise my own idea. I had an interesting

18:22

thought, which is a cloak of

18:24

elvenkind showing a universe

18:28

where there isn't a beholder here. I drape

18:30

it over the reduced beholder,

18:32

which is not small enough to fit under it. And

18:34

now they don't see the beholder. You

18:37

conjure an illusory

18:38

one. They go after that one, bing,

18:40

bang, bong into the black hole. Damn

18:44

it, I can only do writing. I can't

18:46

make an

18:47

illusory image, I think. You

18:50

fucked us again, Dan. I mean, I like

18:52

where you're

18:55

thinking. I

18:57

like the train of thought.

19:00

I'm gonna say you've got

19:03

a little bit of time left to come up

19:05

with a plan, but if you do not come up

19:07

with one soon and

19:10

start enacting it, events will move

19:12

on without you. So one

19:15

option is to just relocate

19:17

the beholder to

19:19

the airlock

19:20

and then just start exclusively breaking things

19:23

in the airlock as

19:25

a double pressure point to draw as many gazers

19:27

there as possible. And then somehow

19:31

extract the beholder out and then pop the

19:33

airlock open as sort of a similar

19:35

way to bait them out.

19:37

So like,

19:40

would this, how

19:42

would I explain this? I'm

19:44

thinking like a Tupac hologram.

19:47

Maybe like it has like a

19:49

virtual assistant that you walk up

19:51

to and goes, "'Oh, hello, are you looking

19:53

for the cafeteria? "'It is that

19:55

way,' and it points in a direction." So.

19:59

I wanna- I wanna play in the space

20:02

with you, but I think we've sort of established

20:04

there was a reception

20:06

desk that had like a person working

20:09

behind it, and this place is largely staffed

20:11

by people who work here like months

20:13

at a time and probably know the layout pretty

20:15

well.

20:16

Well there's always a use for a two-part hologram,

20:19

but I see your point. Look, these- look,

20:21

these are stuffy scientists. Scientists don't

20:23

see a need for a two-part hologram. What

20:26

about like some Vocaloid hologram

20:28

type there, you know? Just- Oh, well

20:30

yeah, of course they've got a hot scene amico with the cast

20:32

of Curie. Alright, that's what I'm working

20:35

with then. Um,

20:39

I mean, look, if you can think of a justification

20:42

for

20:44

why there might be one here, we

20:46

can consider it. Because

20:49

this place is also sponsored

20:52

by this ice cream nightmare,

20:55

and it is their Vtuber mascot

20:57

like when Tony the Tiger did

21:00

streams on Twitch. Now

21:03

see, I'm not sure if I'm

21:05

gonna go with that, but I do like the idea that

21:07

back on the- back on the bazubian, we do

21:10

now have a Vtuber hologram of an ice cream

21:12

mascot. So

21:15

let's get the ball rolling, I think. Can I roll deception

21:17

to try to use the cloak of elvenkind

21:20

over the small beholder? Yeah,

21:23

give me that deception. Let's just see, and then

21:26

we'll go from there. That's a 13. You

21:29

know, they're called gazers. Their entire thing

21:31

is they really just like looking

21:33

at stuff. They are just an eyeball. Um,

21:37

they do what- they do watch you doing this,

21:39

and they're like, okay.

21:41

Fair enough, that's why I wanted to roll for it. We

21:43

still want them though. We still want them though. I have

21:45

a really bad idea. Let's see your really bad

21:48

idea, I want to hear it.

21:49

So, their intent on protecting

21:52

a beholder. Yeah. When

21:54

beholders dream of other beholders,

21:58

they create new beholders. do

22:01

we create one in the

22:03

airlock and then

22:06

vent all of it out into space you want

22:08

to try and make this beholder dream of another beholder

22:11

i mean i feel like that's putting a hat on the hat we already

22:13

have a beholder you're just giving us a

22:15

second beholder look

22:18

i'm not opposed to giving you all a second beholder

22:21

so my suggestion is that we want

22:23

to keep this beholder alive right because

22:25

we want to interrogate it if

22:28

we're looking for in a way to try to

22:30

bait all of these gazers out because

22:32

they're looking to defend a beholder if

22:34

we had it create another one that's inherently

22:37

not going to have any of its knowledge because it's a brand

22:40

new life form

22:41

and then shove that one in the airlock they

22:44

might go after that one and allow

22:46

us to vent it out while we keep ours safe okay

22:50

um so to this point

22:52

you have just been continuing to push this thing

22:55

towards the airlock correct

22:56

towards towards the ship

22:58

yeah yeah towards the ship um

23:02

as you move further and further

23:05

away from where this beholder originally was

23:09

the gazers change their behavior

23:11

again they

23:13

start shooting their uh their eye

23:16

beams their eye lasers at the beholder

23:18

whoa

23:21

um and they start doing this

23:23

in fairly large numbers

23:25

oh no and the beholder

23:27

starts to stir all right can

23:29

i roll insight to see why they're doing this to their homie

23:33

uh yeah roll roll insight roll roll insight

23:35

away i botched

23:39

oh um you're pretty sure

23:41

that the the gazers have had like a sudden

23:44

change of heart and actually they they're

23:46

like oh we'll be the heroes we'll save the day

23:48

now oh my god

23:50

i

23:50

can i can try

23:53

to body block for this this

23:55

beholder if it's getting shot at i

23:57

don't think if it's tiny and i'm big yeah

23:59

I mean the way I'm picturing this and

24:02

Laura can correct me if I'm picturing it wrong But there's

24:04

like hundreds of them and there's no

24:06

way we can get all of them Yeah, no,

24:08

there is a lot of them and without

24:11

a distraction having been Sorry,

24:14

that's a very big gazer in the roll 20 Don't

24:17

know. Yeah without An

24:20

alternative plan being being sort of decided

24:23

upon Yeah, these gazers

24:25

are trying to wake this beholder up Uh, they

24:27

they are clearly aware that they are not uh

24:30

succeeding in keeping you from

24:32

from taking it And

24:34

this beholder is is Is

24:37

definitely waking up now Okay,

24:41

uh I I think Best

24:44

idea we can do is I

24:46

could web like an area

24:48

up To try like to basically

24:50

make a big hallway net and then we

24:52

just book it to uh

24:56

Cortizar ship and just try

24:58

to get out into space and hopefully if

25:00

some of them follow us into the void and die

25:03

Um, yeah, so if you want to set your your

25:06

web across like across the hallway I think

25:08

you can like web up a lot of

25:10

the uh, you can basically stop any of the gazers

25:12

that are

25:14

following behind the beholder like

25:16

trying to to sort of catch up with the

25:18

the team and you can definitely stem the

25:20

uh

25:21

at least one direction that these things

25:24

are trying to uh Trying

25:26

to approach from you're going to have considerably

25:28

less of them to worry about uh as

25:30

a result of popping that that web out um

25:34

This beholder is awake and

25:36

it is looking It

25:38

is looking disoriented

25:41

and confused and annoyed

25:47

Well folks are we rolling initiative I

25:50

mean, I I think unless you've got another

25:52

an alternative plan your rolling initiative 18 16

25:56

the

26:00

gazer. I'm just gonna put it

26:02

in second so I'm gonna

26:04

treat the gazers as one

26:07

slightly restarted block for this

26:10

just to be convenient. So

26:12

Cordizar is gonna

26:15

get in real quick and start just

26:17

trying to take out some of these some

26:19

of these gazers, try and sort of prevent

26:21

them being an additional threat you all

26:23

have to deal with. Cordizar is just sort

26:26

of bouncing off the ceiling, fling

26:28

it around with all

26:30

sorts of cool weaponry.

26:33

Fails to hit! The

26:35

the lack of gravity is still causing some

26:37

issues with actually actually

26:40

targeting. It's

26:41

a little little difficult

26:43

to do cool aerial maneuvers when you're not

26:45

in the gravity you're used to.

26:48

The gazer is gonna focus

26:50

on Cordizar, and

26:54

which Cordizar fails to

26:57

dodge with a deck save and

26:59

is gonna take some damage.

27:04

Takes 11 damage. Buford,

27:06

it is your turn. I

27:08

will cast haste on Wendy

27:10

so I'll do that. Choose

27:12

a willing creature until the spell ends.

27:15

Speed is doubled plus two bonus to AC

27:17

plus advantage on dexterity saving throws.

27:20

Gains an additional action on each of its turns.

27:22

The action can be used only to take the

27:24

attack dash disengage hide or use

27:27

object action. So go crit fishing

27:29

with the reckless attack Wendy. Yeah

27:32

okay uh that's my

27:34

turn then. Yeah and Buford

27:37

will just place himself right in front

27:38

of the beholder to try to keep

27:40

its attention. Trying to be a big meat

27:42

shield. All right yeah

27:44

if Wendy has been super hasted she is

27:46

going to turn on the engine on her ice

27:48

pick and is just going to try to fly through

27:51

a cloud of gazers just impale

27:53

as many as possible to make a big shish

27:55

kebab. And so she's going to

27:57

do her magical girl transformation.

27:59

rage

28:02

to get her wild magic, she's doing everything.

28:04

You know, there's a swirling, you know, tendrils

28:07

of light around her. She does her catchphrase.

28:12

Henshin, bio boost

28:14

Wendy! And she gets like a big

28:16

guy of her armor on her. And

28:19

she just, you know, turns into a streak of light

28:21

to go through these guys. I'm gonna roll

28:24

a D100 before I roll my attacks now that I think about

28:26

it, in case I explode.

28:28

68, so close to being

28:30

nice. Oh,

28:33

I mean, that's pretty nice. I'm

28:37

now curious, did I do anything particularly

28:39

special for 69?

28:43

You are now glowing. You

28:46

have disadvantage on stealth. All

28:49

right, well, we're in the middle of a fight. You

28:52

are just a big glowing beacon. Look, it's

28:54

not a problem right now, but everyone will see

28:56

the big glowing beacon that is Wendy just sort

28:58

of illuminating light. Also, you were

29:00

very close to 69 on that wild

29:02

magic table. That's so close. All

29:05

right, because of the haste, I get to attack

29:07

three times with advantage, doing so recklessly.

29:10

So 19, 18, and crit.

29:12

And

29:15

these are all against the gazer swarm,

29:17

correct? Correct, I am trying to make

29:20

as many gazers as dead as quickly as possible.

29:22

Oh, wonderful, wonderful. Roll

29:24

me that damage for

29:27

three attacks, plus one of them is a crit. Before

29:30

I roll these damage, I should say I have

29:32

an ability called

29:34

Brutal

29:35

Critical. I can roll one

29:37

additional weapon, damage die.

29:39

And I also have great weapon master.

29:42

When I crit, I can make an additional

29:45

weapon attack as a bonus action.

29:47

So I'm actually not even done attacking. No,

29:50

I am so ready for this. Please roll

29:53

the infinite damage. I'm so happy for you.

29:56

20, the other good thing I have is reckless or would have been

29:58

a botch.

30:00

Alright, so that is just a truly

30:03

outrageous number. So that's what?

30:05

Full

30:06

regular attacks plus a full- God,

30:09

that's gonna be at least six damage. Ha

30:12

ha ha ha! Uh, yeah.

30:14

So three regulars and a crit.

30:17

You are not gonna believe how much I get to add

30:19

to this. This is gonna seem like I'm cheating,

30:21

but I promise, this is my whole character's been

30:23

built towards this moment. No, no, no. I

30:25

know this is what you've been built for and I'm so ready to-

30:28

Alright, here it goes.

30:31

83 damage. Oh,

30:34

beautiful. Describe to me

30:36

the, like, the entire montage

30:39

that happens of you, uh, skewering

30:41

basically every possible gazer, uh,

30:44

that didn't get caught in the net. Yeah,

30:46

you know, I'm basically like a pinball, right? I'm bouncing

30:49

gazer to gazer to gazer and it's just leaving

30:51

this golden light fla- uh,

30:53

streak, cuz of the wild magic, I'm

30:55

glowing. So I've, I have become

30:57

like a supernova

30:58

of, of sharpness and

31:00

I'm, as soon as I hit so many gazers

31:03

that my ice pick is full, like

31:05

from, from a hilt to tip, I

31:07

just like swing it to throw them all

31:09

off, like a, you know, samurai cleaning the blood off the

31:11

blade and I'm just keep going. It's, it's

31:14

a, it's an incredible massacre.

31:16

This is everything my character has been

31:18

supposed to be doing this entire campaign

31:21

is finally done.

31:23

You, you

31:25

know, in, in describing that you

31:27

have, you've stolen something from

31:29

Quinn.

31:30

You have just done a sonic homing

31:32

attack at super speed.

31:35

Okay, to make it less Sonic, what I do is in

31:37

midair, I start spinning and now it's

31:39

a Gurren Lagann reference because now I

31:41

am the drill and I am piercing the gazers.

31:44

You're the heaven piercing Giga drill, are you? Kind

31:47

of like the X-Men, uh,

31:50

quick silver scenes too, where

31:52

we first see it in slow motion and

31:54

then horrifyingly fast. Yeah.

31:57

Because you cast haste on me. There's a little bit of that too.

31:59

the precedent that I'm super sonic

32:02

but yeah from the gazers perspective

32:05

they are stumpy little nerds

32:08

yeah yeah that they are um

32:11

so yeah you have completely taken the gazers out

32:13

of the equation here um right

32:17

there is a beholder that is very

32:19

much has very much set its eyes

32:21

on you um so

32:24

let me how am i supposed to follow up

32:26

that okay

32:30

um this beholder is uh gonna

32:32

gonna fire some eye beams uh what

32:34

they are is gonna be random chance

32:37

so let's find out what you've won today

32:39

wendy um you are being targeted with paralyzing

32:41

ray

32:42

uh

32:47

and also uh a fear

32:51

ray uh and i gotta

32:53

reroll because it's duplicate uh and

32:58

a petrification ray so

33:00

many rays yeah these are

33:02

all such fun things being fired at you

33:04

the beholder shoots three of the following magical

33:06

eye rays at random reroll duplicates

33:09

um

33:10

so let's start with um i'm gonna

33:12

need a constitution saving throw from you

33:14

all right well i'm barbarian this is one

33:16

of my good ones i botched uh

33:19

yeah so you are

33:21

um now paralyzed for the next minute

33:24

fair enough um uh

33:26

you can attempt uh the the

33:29

the save on your uh on your turns again

33:31

um it is

33:33

additionally going to attempt to uh

33:35

we're gonna need a wisdom save from you to not get

33:38

feared all right i mean this is pretty scary

33:40

uh 20

33:40

what

33:43

is the opposite of whatever i say look

33:47

it's it's hard to get scared when

33:49

you're already paralyzed you are paralyzed

33:51

not with fear i guess um

33:53

so instead of being afraid i'm

33:56

defiant i'm like coko

33:58

get him you got this

33:59

And I wasn't

34:02

gonna need a deck save from you. All

34:04

right. Well, you have advantage on that, but

34:06

you're also paralyzed. Yeah.

34:09

Uh, 15.

34:11

I needed a 16, unfortunately.

34:17

You are beginning to turn to stone

34:19

as well. You are paralyzed and beginning to

34:21

turn to stone. All right. On

34:23

your turn, you can

34:26

try and do some saves to get around this. But,

34:28

uh, yeah. Ah,

34:31

Max, it's your turn. I like

34:33

the visual poetry of this, because I go ham, I

34:35

kill all these dudes on the top of the world,

34:38

I'm king shit of turd mountain, and then zap,

34:40

zap, zap, zap, zap, zap.

34:41

Well, this is

34:43

the thing. It's like the beholder, those beams, I

34:45

didn't have to pick a target up front. I could

34:47

have petrified you, you know, the beholder

34:50

could have petrified you and then started targeting other things,

34:52

but it is like, no,

34:55

this is an act of disrespect and I am going to

34:57

punish you for this. All

35:00

right. Well, I

35:02

had one plan initially because I was like,

35:04

okay, I can't do much damage. Maybe I can try intimidating

35:07

the beholder down. Uh, but

35:09

then I see Wendy being like, hit

35:11

with all that. I'm like, oh no. Uh,

35:14

okay.

35:16

Trying to think of what to do. Okay. I

35:19

have a solution for Wendy for

35:21

later, but for the immediate, what Max is

35:23

going to do is engage in their own transformation

35:26

sequence, um, to look

35:28

a little bit more imposing. Uh,

35:30

so

35:31

close her eyes, things for a moment, uh,

35:33

split seconds sis. Okay.

35:36

Let's see. We can get out of this one

35:39

formith decrypt char and

35:41

with the gesture, like the,

35:44

like,

35:44

uh, hands clap together,

35:46

pull apart a burst of flame, uh,

35:49

shrouds over Max's body

35:52

as they sort of pull out like a quarter

35:54

staff from their palms, like, cause

35:56

the formith kind of flies there. A quarter staff

35:58

pulls off their attack.

35:59

higher switch to sort of like a red

36:02

militaristic uniform with

36:04

the same patches as Max's flight

36:06

jacket from earlier. And

36:10

once they get the weapon out and ready, they sort of

36:12

point the core staff straight at the beholder

36:14

and just

36:15

tries to sort of glare at them

36:18

saying, I'm

36:21

sorry, but we're going to have to ask that you leave

36:23

here and

36:24

you're coming with us and not interfering

36:26

with this research station any further.

36:30

Not interfering with this what?

36:34

This research station. Oh,

36:37

I guess that makes sense.

36:42

Were you not putting it on your own volition where you was

36:44

placed here by someone else? You're

36:49

doing a lot of talking for someone I could be killing. Yeah,

36:52

these are fault, there's a guy, I remember that. I

36:55

understand, I'm just trying to

36:56

be intimidating. I

36:59

can't attack on the same term to do a transformation.

37:01

I know, I just find it very funny.

37:04

If you wanna try and roll intimidation,

37:06

go right ahead.

37:08

Natural 20. Okay.

37:11

That's a 29. Yeah,

37:14

okay, how do I wanna play this? I

37:18

think in any other situation, this

37:20

beholder would not find

37:23

a lesser beings

37:25

attempted intimidation particularly

37:29

intimidating. I think that no

37:31

matter how much you tried to sort of bolster

37:33

yourself up, they'd just be like, oh, it's one of

37:35

you, whatever you are.

37:40

But I think that this

37:43

beholder starts looking around and then notices

37:45

the wall of gazers trapped

37:48

by a sort of net wall

37:51

and starts looking around and

37:54

realizing, I don't

37:57

know where I am.

38:00

And clearly I've been producing a lot

38:02

of gazes and something's not right. And

38:04

I think that they are...

38:08

uncomfortable enough that

38:10

they are a little rattled by you. Max

38:14

is the post, like he has the course of just aimed

38:16

at them, glaring them down. Not even realizing

38:19

that they're actually being successful and intimidating

38:21

after being run over by

38:23

the... uh... uh,

38:27

at the last event there, so... I

38:30

think this beholder is gonna start floating

38:32

over to you, and I know that... turn order, I'm

38:34

playing a little loose here. This

38:36

beholder's gonna float over to you and look at you

38:39

very closely and go...

38:43

You saw what I did to your friend. If

38:46

you don't want that done to you, perhaps

38:49

we trade information, you tell me where I

38:51

am and what's going on.

38:54

Max

38:57

sort of just sort of like takes a moment and says,

39:01

this is a research station that was being... this

39:05

was a research station researching into

39:07

lycanthropy. They were contacted

39:09

by another beholder asking to engage

39:12

in some sort of act of war, and when they refused,

39:15

something started happening in the station that

39:17

interfered with their ability to research. And

39:20

as far as we can tell, more likely

39:22

than not, you're the interference

39:24

that was put in here to interfere with this... to

39:26

mess with the station. Oh,

39:30

another beholder, you say. I

39:32

mean, unless you forgot contacting the station on

39:35

your own, I have a feeling that if you're... No.

39:40

Okay. Okay,

39:43

I know exactly what the hell's going on here. And

39:47

having gotten the information that he wants, he's

39:50

just gonna start trying to float away from you.

39:52

He's got what he needed out of you.

39:54

Do I get an opportunity attack for that?

39:57

If you want to take an opportunity attack, go

39:59

right ahead. Absolutely.

40:02

We need information and this

40:04

place is filled with fucking gazers still.

40:10

29. 29 is gonna hit. 18. 18 damage is that.

40:18

Yeah okay. 18 damage

40:21

is done. This beholder turns

40:23

around and goes excuse

40:27

me. I believe you forgot

40:29

part of your deal there friend. Oh

40:32

the bit where I'm supposed to I'm supposed to do things

40:35

for you. That's it. You're

40:41

gonna pony up or I'm gonna beat you back

40:44

to sleep. I

40:47

mean you can certainly try. I. It's

40:51

not my turn yet so yes it'll

40:53

happen. Yeah Max did you have anything

40:56

other than the intimidation role you were doing

40:58

on your turn? Unfortunately I don't have any bonus

41:00

actions. I was going to actually spend and the only

41:02

other thing I'm going to plan on doing is using one

41:04

of Max's inherent spells

41:07

which is actually a lesser

41:09

restoration to cure Wendy

41:11

of one of those conditions actually but I can't

41:13

do that. That's also an action.

41:16

Well in that case Buford it

41:18

is your turn if you want to start laying that

41:21

smack down. What is Cordazar doing? I believe

41:23

they're up first. Oh sorry yes.

41:25

Cordazar is no longer trying to deal

41:27

with the gazers you're correct. So uh

41:30

Cordazar

41:32

is going to make one more attempt to get

41:35

used to this gravity and spring dramatically

41:37

off the walls this time at the

41:40

beholder.

41:43

Six completely flies past

41:45

the beholder yet again. Some

41:48

real some real fucking dog shit rolls

41:50

for Cordazar today. Was

41:53

not prepared for anti-gravity. Buford

41:56

it's your turn. Well you know he's the defense

41:58

specialist he's not the

41:59

out the attack specialists. They skipped

42:02

wire day practice so that the team just does not

42:04

have it lined up. They're just flying around too much.

42:06

OK, step one, I

42:09

am sadly going to have to, I

42:11

think, drop the concentration

42:14

for haste because I don't know what's going to

42:16

happen with Wendy and I have to deal with the

42:18

immediate threat and I am

42:20

going to bonus action cast

42:23

blinding smite. Tell

42:25

me about blinding smite. The

42:27

next time you hit a creature with a melee weapon

42:30

attack during the spell's duration, your

42:32

weapon flares bright light. The

42:34

attack deals three d eight radiant

42:37

extra radiant damage. Additionally, the target

42:39

must succeed on a constitution saving

42:41

throw or be blinded until the spell

42:44

ends. I want to blind this

42:46

big eye focused monster if possible.

42:48

OK, yeah, do do the attack and

42:50

then remind me what I need to roll to not

42:52

be blind. All right. And this actually happens until

42:55

it keeps up, even if I miss.

42:57

Until I hit it with something. Yeah. Sixteen.

43:01

Sixteen. Sorry,

43:03

let me just go up to here. Sixteen

43:05

is not going to hit. OK. Twenty

43:08

eight. Twenty eight is going to hit. Twelve

43:12

damage, so a total of thirty

43:15

three damage there. And

43:17

it has to make a constitution

43:20

saving throw.

43:22

Twenty. It is not blinded,

43:24

but you have given it a pretty big smat.

43:27

OK, yeah, I think what happens here is that

43:29

Buford swings at it misses

43:32

and then backhands it while

43:34

opening his palm and just dropping

43:37

a flashbang directly in its face. But

43:39

it's just got too many eyes. Yeah,

43:41

it uses one of its like it's it's one of its tentacle

43:44

stalks to just like knock it the other way. And

43:46

now all the gazers behind the net are blinded.

43:51

Wendy, it is your

43:52

turn. I'm going to need some rolls from you. Absolutely.

43:55

I'm going to make two saves. This

43:57

is the con. That's a crit. You

43:59

love.

43:59

to see it and another crit you will

44:02

not believe your eyes yo

44:04

you will believe oh when D can

44:06

fly hey maybe I should have let her

44:08

kill it to keep you on you

44:11

are definitely not paralyzed or

44:14

petrified anymore I'm on

44:16

my bill web shit extremely

44:24

unlikely I should clarify that my enlarged

44:27

reduce only lasted for a minute this doesn't

44:29

affect it any math

44:29

because you the beholder doesn't attack

44:32

with weapons but for flavor it suddenly

44:34

pops into its full size just like whoop the

44:38

holders are 16 feet tall

44:40

it is important that a human can fit in

44:42

its mouth so for

44:44

your visual image so

44:47

that those saving throws happen

44:49

at the end of your turns you unfortunately that

44:51

is that is you done that does mean

44:54

you are available

44:56

again for air for combat would

44:59

be just like picking the stone away

45:01

with the ice pick I

45:04

is like away yeah she turns around

45:06

defiantly and is like oh you're gonna

45:08

get it now buddy and then be doubles

45:10

in size I feel like being

45:16

halved inside may also have contributed

45:18

to being mildly

45:19

intimidated for a moment I'm used to

45:21

being a lot bigger than this I've

45:23

woken up am I always this small so

45:25

yeah the beholder's

45:27

gonna attempt to go for Buford

45:30

this time because Buford's been doing the most damage

45:34

to it so I'm going

45:37

to

45:40

need a wisdom save from you

45:43

Buford okay 21 crit

45:46

you are not charmed that is very

45:49

good I'm gonna need a

45:52

strength safe from you okay 20 you

45:55

you are not held

45:59

in the this beholder's telepathic grip, and

46:02

I'm going to need a dexterity

46:05

saving throw from you.

46:08

Oh, it's actually a 14, nevermind. 14's

46:11

still not gonna do it, I'm really sorry. So

46:14

you are gonna take the brunt of a death ray, which

46:18

they're not fun.

46:21

What's your max HP, Buford?

46:24

I'm curious. My maximum

46:26

HP is 83. Okay,

46:30

you've taken 49 damage. All

46:32

right, I'm still up, but

46:35

I was at 52 because Max shot me. Yeah,

46:40

so you have just taken like a necrotic

46:42

blast to the face. This

46:45

thing is not messing around. Max,

46:48

it's your turn. All right, I'm at three

46:50

health, ladies and gentlemen.

46:52

So in this case here,

46:55

Max just takes

46:57

a bonus action targets the

46:59

now very big beholder in

47:02

front of them, and now we'll

47:04

attempt to, well, attack

47:07

at them with this quarter staff a few times,

47:09

sort of like

47:11

smack at it a few times to get its

47:13

attention for a moment. So that's gonna be two

47:16

attacks. That's

47:18

a 19 and a botch.

47:21

Okay, so it's taken 16 damage.

47:24

What do I wanna do in...

47:28

So in terms of the botch, I

47:30

think the way we're gonna play this is the

47:33

beholder is gonna get one I-beam out, not

47:36

the full volley of three. That's fine. But...

47:39

Let's

47:40

do it. You are gonna need to do a strength

47:42

saving throw. Strength saving throw, all

47:44

right. That will not do

47:47

it with a 10. No, this

47:49

beholder is gonna move you up to 30 foot in

47:51

any direction and restrain

47:53

you in a telepath at

47:57

grip, so I think it's gonna try and move you as far

47:59

away from... from the fight as possible, like right

48:01

down the corridor. You,

48:06

yeah, you are now just sort of held up

48:09

in the air, restrained until

48:11

you can pass a save

48:13

to get free. Got it.

48:16

Kordazar's gonna attempt one

48:18

more time to actually get a hit in, come

48:20

on, come on. You've got a decent bonus.

48:24

I believe in him.

48:26

13 is still not gonna hit.

48:28

Kordazar is just bouncing around, just like, whichever

48:31

one of you turned off the gravity really ruined

48:33

my ability to be impressive.

48:37

I was gonna look so cool. It's

48:39

Buford's turn. Okay,

48:43

well, I do not heal enough

48:46

to be able to help

48:48

myself here, really.

48:51

Let me look, yeah. He

48:54

increases by one D. I

48:57

think if it does any damage to me in general, it's

48:59

probably gonna obliterate

49:01

me. So

49:03

my only option here, I think, is

49:06

to cast Thunderous Smite on

49:08

myself, which is like the previous

49:10

smite, but less cool,

49:13

and attempt to continue

49:16

to beat this thing unconscious. Okay,

49:20

give me those rolls. 29's

49:23

gonna hit. All right, that's 25

49:27

plus, and

49:29

then

49:30

Thunderous Smite will

49:33

be, I'll just hit up here until

49:35

I get to the thing. 2d6.

49:38

So

49:40

that would be basic math. 31 damage

49:45

for that attack.

49:47

Okay, okay. Is

49:52

that your whole turn? No, I

49:54

have another attack. This also can

49:56

make a strength saving throw to avoid

49:58

being pushed 10 feet away.

49:59

for me. Beholders

50:02

are also immune to being made prone.

50:04

There you go. You know, I probably shouldn't tell you that, but

50:06

there you go. Five. That is not

50:08

gonna, that's not gonna be enough. Alright,

50:11

and then that being the case, Buford

50:13

still has a 10 foot reach, so

50:15

he is gonna swing again at

50:17

it.

50:19

Holy shit. 30. Yep,

50:22

30's gonna hit. Give me some more

50:24

damage. An extra 15 damage

50:27

on top of there. Okay.

50:30

Wendy, it is your turn and I don't think you're reflected

50:32

by anything anymore, are you? No,

50:35

I'm perfect. Although, I think about

50:37

barbarians, they lose their rage

50:39

if they go for a turn without attacking.

50:42

So I have to re-rage.

50:45

Let's hope Wob Magic doesn't bork

50:48

me here because I say, by the

50:50

power of greenskull! And

50:52

I want to rush forward. First

50:54

my D100. 78. 78. Alright. Fireball centered on yourself.

50:58

You

51:10

get to take two

51:13

actions in a row. Oh my god, I'm

51:15

going absolutely common

51:17

on this motherfucker. I am going

51:19

berserk. Call me guts.

51:22

I crit! Oh my god. 18. 22. My extra

51:24

for

51:26

critting.

51:29

Oh my god, 16. I think that one

51:31

misses, but I have one, two, three.

51:33

The 16 does miss.

51:36

Uh-huh. This ice pick of mine

51:38

is Burning Red. It's a loud

51:40

roar, tells me to grasp victory. 67 damage. Okay, 67

51:46

damage. This beholder is looking

51:48

real worse for wear. Um,

51:52

and as its turn comes around, it

51:55

stops and takes on board the situation

51:57

and goes, look,

51:59

let's acknowledge the

51:59

the situation here. If

52:02

I blast your friend with another death ray, they

52:04

are just gone. Like

52:06

gone gone.

52:08

But I'm probably not getting out of

52:10

this alive if I don't do

52:13

this fight.

52:14

So let's talk. All

52:17

right, I.I. We are Tully's

52:19

monsters of the DM

52:23

Razubian, and our captain

52:26

is a good guy. He's a great brain and

52:28

he just wants to talk to you. Well,

52:31

I mean, I'm not deeply interested in going anywhere

52:33

to talk with anyone else, but I will

52:35

talk to you and then leave.

52:37

And that is us done. That is the best I will

52:39

offer you.

52:41

That is the best of you only to roll perception or

52:43

persuasion. Look, like you

52:45

can you can try and roll the persuasion, but you are gonna

52:48

you're gonna have to hit a very high number

52:51

to get this over. I can

52:53

give you plus five to it. This

52:55

beholder has no interest in going anywhere

52:58

where there are other people or beings.

53:00

I'm going to add

53:03

something a little bit of flavor on the side here, Laura.

53:06

That's a funny thing here. Yeah, go ahead. So

53:08

Max is restrained right now. Yeah,

53:10

but they're within 30 feet of the beholder. Yeah.

53:13

So they could use as a

53:15

bonus action with their turn happens, roll around and all

53:17

this to just teleport adjacent to it automatically

53:19

because they have a thing called relentless hex

53:22

where as long as they have a target cursed

53:24

by something, they can teleport up to 30 feet to

53:26

be within five feet of it. If you want to

53:28

do that now out of turn, I love that flavor wise.

53:31

Yeah, Max still restrained,

53:33

but now there's adjacent to the beholder holding the

53:36

quarter staff. And for the flavor, when

53:38

the beholder acknowledges it could kill

53:40

me, but it's going to probably die in the

53:42

process.

53:43

View for its darkly

53:45

chuckling at this because

53:47

that's still a win in his book. And

53:50

are you rolling that persuasion? Yeah,

53:54

I'm going to try. I guess the worst thing happened is it

53:56

kills Beaufort. Five.

53:58

That's nothing. I'll give it.

53:59

a plus five make that a ten yeah

54:03

for a ten's not going to be enough to convince

54:05

this beholder to go back to your ship that is

54:07

absolutely teeming full of non-beholder

54:10

life forms that it would have to be

54:12

around um it's

54:14

like max will jay interject like look

54:17

at the very least you could tell us who

54:19

put you here or why you got placed

54:21

here did someone come here and just dream you

54:23

up and leave you here to just fill this ship with

54:25

gazers is that what happened there's

54:28

a there's a beholder

54:30

uh yosh um

54:34

i i

54:36

uh

54:38

he came to me a little while ago

54:41

i'm pretty sure he's trying to start an army

54:44

which is uh not really

54:47

not

54:47

really the beholder way um he came

54:50

to me wanting to

54:52

get me to

54:58

work beside him uh he's

55:00

as best i

55:03

can tell trying to bring beholders into a war

55:05

he's planning um you know fighting

55:07

side by side and i said no because

55:11

well working side by side is not

55:13

a thing we do it is just not the dumb

55:15

thing and no

55:18

sooner had i said no than i was i assume

55:25

an a comatose gazer factory

55:27

it seems thinking

55:30

back is that name the same one that was that contacted

55:32

this that is the same one that contacted

55:34

this face all right

55:36

um uh

55:39

he he sort of turns to you and goes i i

55:44

i'm piecing i'm piecing together by

55:46

looking around but

55:49

i

55:53

i was dreaming of being inside

55:56

a big werewolf repairing

55:59

myself when i was in

56:00

trapping people and turn them into werewolves

56:03

if they got too close to me. You

56:05

know, just

56:07

regenerating and making more werewolves.

56:09

I was violent and angry and...

56:15

I guess I made a bunch

56:18

of gazes keep repairing this place and

56:20

yeah. Wow,

56:23

Laura, I love how those two things just

56:25

came together. Magnificent.

56:28

What two things is that? What? I

56:32

love writing. It's magic. Who

56:34

amongst us hasn't dreamed about being

56:36

inside a big werewolf?

56:38

Look, sometimes you dream

56:41

about being a big werewolf and that's why there are gazes

56:44

making you repair yourself. This

56:47

somehow validates Max's prior

56:49

clay, but it validates at the same time, which

56:51

is great. Yeah, the note. Look,

56:54

I'm willing to say the theory is right. You have

56:56

essentially been trapped inside a giant werewolf

56:58

this whole time. Max will then

57:00

just sort of nod. It's like, well, I guess

57:03

the best we can do is give you a chance to, you

57:06

know,

57:06

be by yourself. But in the

57:08

meantime, clearing out

57:11

those gazes over there on the way out, which

57:13

is allow the researchers here

57:15

to get back to what they want to do, you know?

57:19

He turns towards the net and just starts

57:22

using beams to sort of tear

57:24

it apart and just start sending all the

57:26

gazes towards the

57:28

the docking section with the

57:30

intent of just being like, yeah, let's get

57:33

they can get out of here.

57:35

I'll take him with me. I thought he was

57:37

going to be like, no, I fucking hate the holder. Zap, zap, zap.

57:39

Fuck. Yeah. I

57:42

mean, look, he's he's he's like

57:44

he may well do so still, but at the very least,

57:46

gazes just sort of do what they're told and

57:48

don't like insist on conversation. They're

57:50

just sort of mindless enough to not be a huge

57:53

problem. It's like being able to make your own

57:55

popcorn shrimp. You

57:58

could just pop them in there.

57:59

juicy little snack. Except they're your kids.

58:04

Well, no, they're less annoying

58:06

than kids in that they just intuitively

58:09

will know what you want them to do. Yeah, and people don't

58:11

get upset when you eat them. Yeah,

58:13

right? But

58:16

yeah, he turns back to you

58:18

and he just goes,

58:19

look, the fact that your

58:22

wishes is willing to make it

58:24

alliances to

58:26

start a war is concerning.

58:31

It is not what we do. And

58:33

if he is willing to do that, then yeah, you

58:37

should be worried.

58:39

I also wonder how many others you might

58:41

have sort of put under his influence

58:45

like this to achieve his goals. Honestly,

58:48

in this case here, I'm not even sure what

58:50

this accomplishes other than just punishing those

58:52

that refuse to work with him, you know?

58:55

The impression

58:57

I'm getting from here is I

58:59

was in here to punish me for not

59:01

agreeing and

59:04

it sure seems like this place was made a

59:07

mess of to punish

59:10

whoever was here.

59:12

So this Yoush guy is no friend of yours.

59:14

Do you know how we can get in contact with him or

59:16

blow him up? I mean, it seems like we'll be doing

59:18

you a favor.

59:19

You got a favorite bar, maybe? I

59:23

have no interest

59:25

in

59:26

even even someone like him.

59:29

I have no interest in sending a bunch

59:31

of people to go be in his vicinity because

59:33

I

59:35

mean, I know I wouldn't want it. It's

59:39

very thoughtful. Behold

59:41

their solidarity. So nice to see. If

59:45

they were in the same room, they'd kill each other. I

59:48

mean, yeah. If

59:51

I

59:51

get half John's, I will kill him.

59:54

But look, he does

59:56

not stick around in one place for long.

59:59

Any time anyone knows where he is, is exactly

1:00:02

when he does not want to be there anymore, because, you

1:00:04

know, he is not one

1:00:06

for company.

1:00:09

You didn't give me a name, so I'm going to call you Xanathar

1:00:11

Jr. I would

1:00:14

really rather you didn't. It's

1:00:16

Beshk, if you must. Ooh,

1:00:20

I like that.

1:00:22

Yeah, I'm sure you do. It's

1:00:24

a good name. I'm like, whatever, whatever,

1:00:27

whatever one you got, it's probably

1:00:29

terrible. What's yours? I'm curious now,

1:00:31

I want to know. Wendy McDonald?

1:00:34

Yeah, that's what I tell you, terrible. Oh,

1:00:38

I picked it special. I thought really hard

1:00:40

about it. I want people to like me.

1:00:44

Have you considered changing it to Beshk? How

1:00:50

do you spell these two beholder names? I feel

1:00:52

like the audience is going to want to know.

1:00:54

B-E-S-H-K

1:00:58

and Y-A-U-S-H.

1:01:02

Alright. So

1:01:06

yeah, at this point, Beshk turns

1:01:08

to you all and goes, look,

1:01:11

are we done? Do you have any other

1:01:13

questions, or can I just get back to not

1:01:15

being a Gazer factory?

1:01:18

All I wanted was the answers you've given

1:01:20

me what I require.

1:01:22

Wonderful, and I didn't have to murder you today,

1:01:24

which is a good day for you.

1:01:26

Yep, and then Wendy didn't have to kill you in her

1:01:29

spots. All around, good day. Man,

1:01:31

I'm leaking a lot of oil and blood. Yeah,

1:01:34

you are. Okay, well remember

1:01:36

this, if there's some kind of later confrontation where we

1:01:38

need backup, when we call for you? I'm

1:01:41

just saying, you could be a cool... No, you explicitly can't

1:01:43

call for me. I

1:01:46

do not wish to be called. If you call for me, I will

1:01:48

hit the ignore call button. Well,

1:01:51

Max will still just sort of lower the

1:01:54

quarter staff in,

1:01:55

assuming they're actually allowed to sit beyond

1:01:57

the ground and not be restrained anymore. they'll

1:02:00

say up to a Beshk, right?

1:02:04

Yeah, Beshk. They'll say the Beshk,

1:02:06

like, well, for what it's worth, Beshk,

1:02:09

you have my thanks for at least

1:02:11

doing this small bit to

1:02:13

put the researchers here at ease.

1:02:16

I promise you, you'll

1:02:17

thanks me nothing to me. I

1:02:21

like this guy more and more every minute. He

1:02:25

just starts, he beckons the cases

1:02:27

to follow. No refunds

1:02:30

on that. You can't give it back to me. I

1:02:32

hope Beshk forgot while he was

1:02:34

unconscious that he can't breathe in space and just

1:02:36

goes out into the void and falls into the black

1:02:38

hole. Yeah,

1:02:43

I, hmm, I'm

1:02:45

curious. Let's go steal Korduzar's

1:02:47

ship. Oh

1:02:50

my God. I

1:02:52

mean, it's right there. Um.

1:02:58

Korduzar is now missing a ship. Oh

1:03:01

man. I guess that means he had to come home

1:03:04

with us. I mean, what a shame

1:03:06

it would be if Korduzar had to come home with you.

1:03:08

How much would that suck? That'd be so terrible.

1:03:11

I mean, he missed every single round in combat.

1:03:13

Honestly, I'm mad at him. He's

1:03:18

just floating there going, look, I did

1:03:20

not do any of my training in zero

1:03:22

gravity. I cannot be held

1:03:24

responsible

1:03:24

for this. You could have deployed

1:03:27

a shield or something, Coco. I know you

1:03:29

can make fucking magic

1:03:31

shields and technological

1:03:33

shields, spiky shields. You're

1:03:35

the shield guy. You've never had

1:03:37

to kill someone in a zero-g environment

1:03:39

before? Well, look, I was gonna

1:03:41

put the shields up and that required me

1:03:43

getting over to where there were people who needed shielding

1:03:46

and I was floating over the other side of the corridor.

1:03:49

You embarrassed me in front of my friends. I can't

1:03:51

believe you.

1:03:52

Well, your friends turned off the gravity

1:03:54

and made me embarrass myself. Oh,

1:03:57

Besh, make sure you follow me on smixmock.

1:04:00

I'm gonna be sending you some really dank videos.

1:04:02

Wendy, you did

1:04:05

real good. You were super cool.

1:04:07

I was very impressed. Thank you. I'm gonna

1:04:09

go turn off the lights again before the werewolves

1:04:12

get here. Bye! Uh,

1:04:17

yes. You are all still

1:04:19

on the ship. A lot

1:04:21

of the lights are still off, but a reasonable

1:04:24

number of them have come back on. It

1:04:26

seems like there is a 50-50 split,

1:04:28

but you haven't seen any werewolves in a little

1:04:30

while. Um, but

1:04:32

yeah, what do you want to do? Yeah,

1:04:35

I mean, I'm very fast, and

1:04:37

I think if you have any more spell slots, can you haste

1:04:39

me again? Because I have fly speed and

1:04:42

I have, um, what's it called,

1:04:44

unarmored

1:04:45

movement or something? I'm just really,

1:04:47

really fast. I just want to get to the main breaker

1:04:49

and flip it. Give me one second.

1:04:51

I don't think I can haste you

1:04:53

again. Now, if you can give

1:04:55

me a spell slot back,

1:04:57

what level can you give someone?

1:04:59

A d3. I have to roll a d3. Okay.

1:05:03

Only if you rolled a three could I give you haste,

1:05:05

or I could make you so fast that you're setting

1:05:08

everything around you on fire.

1:05:10

Oh, I rolled a three! Okay.

1:05:13

Do you want to beat regular

1:05:16

hasted or basically have literal

1:05:18

rocket fire feet? Make

1:05:21

me as fast as you can. Yeah, the ability I just looked

1:05:23

at is called fast movement. It's a

1:05:25

very originally creatively named ability

1:05:27

I have. Uh, they are both

1:05:29

identically- oh, no, it's only 20 feet. Okay,

1:05:32

yeah, I'll, uh, I'll haste you. I guess

1:05:34

I didn't describe what this looks like. But it's

1:05:36

a little bit awkward because, uh, Wendy

1:05:39

is so small, so I guess

1:05:40

Buford has had to custom make things

1:05:42

specifically to fit her as well. Um,

1:05:46

I think it's like a tiny, almost like

1:05:48

spider-like implant that he

1:05:50

just kind of hucks onto the back of your neck

1:05:52

and it digs in to the base of

1:05:54

your brainstem and spinal cord and starts

1:05:57

juicing up direct adrenaline

1:05:59

right into your-

1:05:59

Oh my god, you leave my

1:06:02

stem alone, goob goob, you

1:06:04

monster. It's

1:06:07

the quickest way to get the best effect.

1:06:11

Alright, I'm just gonna go as fast as I can

1:06:13

possibly get to the breaker, turn all the

1:06:15

lights in the station off, this time they won't be

1:06:17

repaired by the gazers, hopefully. Yep.

1:06:20

Do you want to turn the gravity

1:06:22

back on while you're there, or are you leaving it off?

1:06:25

I think it's funnier if the gravity's still

1:06:27

off. I can't think of any negative effects, besides

1:06:30

watching my friends bump into things. Other

1:06:33

than being able to laugh at cortisol, not being

1:06:35

able to correctly do things in zero

1:06:37

gravity. Yeah, and I can fly, so

1:06:39

I don't even think of it. It doesn't

1:06:42

occur to me. Yeah,

1:06:44

so

1:06:45

on your way down, you get down

1:06:47

there, you are able to turn those lights off entirely.

1:06:50

On the way down, again, you are struck

1:06:52

by you have not seen a werewolf

1:06:55

the whole flight down. Uh oh. That's

1:06:58

an ominous way to say that, Laura. Oh,

1:07:01

no, I said what I said. Alright.

1:07:04

Something to do if you find it ominous. There any non-werewolves

1:07:06

around?

1:07:10

Not in any of the immediate corridors.

1:07:13

I'm assuming you were rushing to the breakers,

1:07:16

not specifically looking for

1:07:18

beings.

1:07:19

No, I'm going direct,

1:07:21

I'm focused, moisturized

1:07:23

in my lane. The rest of them can look for survivors

1:07:26

if they want. You don't have dark vision, so you

1:07:28

are now going to have to make your way back alone in

1:07:30

the dark. I'll give her a glowing piece

1:07:33

of trash, as per my tactic.

1:07:37

Cool. You can go

1:07:39

head back to your party. What do

1:07:41

the party want to do? Party's going to use

1:07:44

four first level spell slots and heal himself.

1:07:47

Max

1:07:51

will actually place a hand on Buford to

1:07:53

aid in the healing process as well, because they

1:07:55

have another inherent spell. They have

1:07:57

a thing to do for free.

1:07:59

Uh, there's two hit points back that that makes

1:08:02

up for you shooting you earlier you yeah,

1:08:05

I think it makes up for uh, 2 13th

1:08:07

of that damage. Yes Uh,

1:08:10

yeah, so I guess it like max lays a hand

1:08:13

on buford as buford is like literally

1:08:15

stapling parts of his body back

1:08:18

into place

1:08:19

Like yeah, there's like the weird like

1:08:21

celestial glow about max when

1:08:24

they're placing their hand on buford

1:08:26

Well on the other side buford's just

1:08:28

like yeah Like using a chainsaw

1:08:30

to heal a cut, you know Yeah,

1:08:33

wendy says this yowsh guy

1:08:36

must be really powerful if he

1:08:38

just rolled up That guy who almost

1:08:40

killed us three on one Yeah,

1:08:43

I mean it locked him in a permanent coma,

1:08:46

which is a bad sign Seemingly

1:08:49

effortlessly cuz like they didn't

1:08:51

even remember the fight. So it seems like he

1:08:53

just got Completely blackjacked

1:08:56

that's not good. We're really badass. I

1:08:58

mean if you're making the power rankings, we're up there

1:09:01

You you did explode like 50 gazers

1:09:05

Yeah, I'm thinking of the the

1:09:07

move that made this guy back down Right

1:09:09

because she did this all this damage right before

1:09:11

he said hey, let's just talk this out It's

1:09:13

like she you know pinned

1:09:15

like two of his eye stalks to the wall

1:09:17

or something like had it was like really up close

1:09:20

and personal And it was like, you know,

1:09:22

she felt pretty cool about it But now she's reflecting

1:09:24

like oh I could have been incinerated

1:09:27

in one shot from those eyelazers

1:09:30

And almost our tank almost

1:09:32

went down like

1:09:34

that was the holders are not to be fucked

1:09:36

with Yeah,

1:09:38

I'm just like max like

1:09:41

max's resources were so tax that they couldn't do

1:09:43

anything a

1:09:47

Beholder is a fucking threat. That's

1:09:50

a that's a problem for another day.

1:09:53

God. I bleeding a lot Why don't

1:09:55

we check it on her scientists friends?

1:09:58

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that some of them get out actually

1:10:00

help heal you up a little bit more. But yes,

1:10:02

let's check to see how many- well,

1:10:06

I mean, I'm not going to say survivors per

1:10:08

se, but like,

1:10:10

let's see what the status of the crew is before

1:10:12

we head back. Uh,

1:10:14

so you were heading back to the, uh, the big vaulted

1:10:17

room. Uh, yeah.

1:10:18

Mm-hmm. You're saying things with such

1:10:21

an ominous tone, Laura.

1:10:23

No, fine. I like to leave an air

1:10:25

of mystery. I don't want to, I don't want to give away,

1:10:28

you know, what's, what's, what's coming. It's a

1:10:31

surprise birthday party for all the gazers

1:10:33

that were born today. Uh,

1:10:36

you open the door and see confetti

1:10:39

in streamers. Happy birthday, gazers.

1:10:42

No. Um, so

1:10:44

this room is a lot busier than it was last

1:10:46

time you were in here.

1:10:48

Um, there is a lot

1:10:50

of people of varying, uh, varying

1:10:53

species, uh,

1:10:55

in varying states of,

1:10:57

uh,

1:10:58

injured, not great

1:11:00

states,

1:11:01

um, being

1:11:04

worked on by these two, two scientists

1:11:07

working by the light of a single glowing

1:11:09

piece of trash. Mm.

1:11:12

Uh, and they're like, oh, oh, uh, hello.

1:11:16

Hello, you're back. Hello. Oh,

1:11:19

you're alive. Yeah.

1:11:22

Yeah. There were, there were, there

1:11:24

were, there were so many, so many sounds outside.

1:11:27

Yeah. Honestly, Mort, Mort, I was given that 50,

1:11:30

50 that we were going to come back and you were going to be spread all

1:11:32

over the ceiling and the walls. I

1:11:34

don't know why I just had an ominous feeling, but

1:11:37

I'm glad to see you're

1:11:37

cool. I mean, I mean,

1:11:40

it's, it's, it's, it's been a rough one. We've,

1:11:43

we've been having a, we've been having a rough time over here,

1:11:45

but I

1:11:47

mean, it's not a, it's not a permanent,

1:11:50

it's not a permanent like, uh,

1:11:53

it is amazing how good of a motivator

1:11:56

being terrified for your very life

1:11:58

can be. For size.

1:11:59

We

1:12:03

seem to have a somewhat longish thing going, I think. Would

1:12:13

it help if I gave you more glowing trash?

1:12:16

I mean, it would certainly help. We wouldn't have to keep

1:12:19

holding our figures up to the glowing

1:12:21

trash like one piece of paper

1:12:23

at a time.

1:12:24

Do you have more glowing trash? I can make

1:12:27

up to five pieces of glowing trash.

1:12:30

Oh, perfect, perfect. Okay, okay.

1:12:34

Right, right. I expect to be credited

1:12:36

in the Wikipedia page. I

1:12:39

will make sure you get a reference. Sorry,

1:12:41

the Squiddapedia page.

1:12:43

So

1:12:45

yeah, what happens at this point

1:12:48

is that the scientists sort of

1:12:50

usher a bunch of these people into

1:12:55

the various tubes and

1:12:59

usher the other people outside

1:13:01

of the room.

1:13:04

And they go,

1:13:08

would one of you be able to go turn on just like the light

1:13:10

in just this room, just the power for

1:13:12

this room?

1:13:14

Because we wanna check we've done this

1:13:17

right.

1:13:18

Now that we control the station again, can't we change

1:13:20

the frequency of the lights and then just turn them

1:13:22

on and then you all won't wolf out?

1:13:25

Well, I mean, yes, we

1:13:27

can. And that is definitely doable, but

1:13:30

also I think we have

1:13:32

maybe come to a development

1:13:34

on the science and I would like to test on

1:13:36

these ones in the tubes, whether we have actually

1:13:38

achieved what we think we've achieved. So

1:13:41

change the frequencies of all the lights except for this

1:13:43

one initially, and then turn this one on

1:13:45

first?

1:13:46

Turn all the regular lights

1:13:48

back to regular lights and just leave

1:13:50

the ones in these tubes that

1:13:52

are designed to be at this frequency.

1:13:54

And then we turn the tubes on, the lights on

1:13:56

in the tubes and we see what happens. Buford's

1:13:59

already walked out of the...

1:13:59

room to do it. Well, in

1:14:02

the meantime, Max will

1:14:04

decrypt back to their normal state,

1:14:07

so they're back in their like, hard wing flight

1:14:09

jacket and stuff. He's

1:14:11

not putting gravity back on. He's quite

1:14:14

injured. The lack of gravity is helping him

1:14:16

get around right now. Yeah, yeah.

1:14:18

It's putting less pressure on the body. Wendy

1:14:22

actually walks away from this interaction,

1:14:24

kind of flies over the corner of the room and starts throwing

1:14:26

up in a trash can. It's just like, medic,

1:14:30

medic, I'm at the adrenaline

1:14:32

is worn off. I'm actually extremely ill

1:14:34

from wild magic. Somebody help

1:14:38

Max can help with this. Yeah,

1:14:42

if you can help Max, go ahead. Max

1:14:45

will go over to Wendy, float

1:14:48

over to Wendy with

1:14:49

like, use those spectral wings stuff and

1:14:52

use lesser restoration on Wendy. I'm

1:14:54

not sure how much will help. It can remove a condition

1:14:57

which can be either blinded, deafened, paralyzed,

1:15:00

or poisoned. I don't think any of those are. I think

1:15:02

poisoned maybe is I'm

1:15:04

dealing with come down from adrenaline.

1:15:07

Oh no, it's because the wild magic that gave me space flu.

1:15:10

Oh, oh, sorry. Yes, the wild magic

1:15:13

space flu. Yeah, no, that is, what

1:15:15

were your options again? Sorry.

1:15:17

Unfortunately, it's probably not gonna be valid. It says,

1:15:19

you can touch a creature and either end one

1:15:21

disease or condition afflicting it. The condition

1:15:24

can be blinded, deafened, paralyzed, or poisoned,

1:15:26

or if this is considered a disease, it

1:15:28

can cure that.

1:15:30

It is considered

1:15:32

a magical disease.

1:15:34

If you want to cure a disease, yeah, you can cure the

1:15:36

space flu. So Max,

1:15:39

like Max places a hand on Wendy,

1:15:42

you know, celestial glowy stuff and

1:15:44

the

1:15:45

flu begins to wane away

1:15:48

from Wendy after that. Nice.

1:15:51

I think Wendy looks up at you gratefully and

1:15:53

says, Maxie, Max, today

1:15:56

you're the cortisol. incredibly

1:16:00

upset and disappointed. I'm

1:16:03

fine being Max, that's okay,

1:16:05

but thanks. Um, Cordizar's

1:16:08

berry now. I wanna be the

1:16:10

Cordizar. Cordizar?

1:16:12

You can be the Cordizar again, you just gotta get your

1:16:14

shit straight now. Put the gravity

1:16:16

back on for me! Uh, uh,

1:16:21

uh, depending on how long it takes for Buford to

1:16:23

get the lights back on, I'm wondering if we should talk

1:16:25

with the scientists now or... If you wanna have that talk with the

1:16:27

scientists, I think this is a perfect time to do it.

1:16:29

So, after addressing Wendy,

1:16:32

Max does flow over to the, uh, the

1:16:35

one scientist that they... Oh, uh, Mort, yeah,

1:16:37

uh, talking over to Mort and science and like... Um,

1:16:41

okay, Mort, so, to clarify,

1:16:45

there was a beholder that was placed

1:16:47

in this station and was sleeping and treating

1:16:49

those gazers. And as far as we can

1:16:51

tell, they were placed in here by, uh,

1:16:54

the same beholder that contacted you all,

1:16:57

so... That is worrying.

1:16:59

That is worrying. Hmm. That's

1:17:03

not good. That's not good. I'm

1:17:05

not sure, uh, I wouldn't

1:17:07

say, you know, I would say just be keeping an eye

1:17:09

out for that because I'm not sure if they're gonna do anything further,

1:17:11

but... I have to ask a simple

1:17:14

question about

1:17:15

when, well, Ardwing was here last

1:17:17

time. Well, yes, uh, I'll

1:17:19

just ask away. So you said

1:17:21

you saw this along with them

1:17:24

as Max points over to Formith. Yes,

1:17:27

yes, yes, definitely. It was very familiar.

1:17:30

Was it following any one of them in particular?

1:17:33

Um, yes, it was, uh, it

1:17:36

was following a... an

1:17:38

Ardling woman. Um, I believe,

1:17:41

I believe her name was Dash. Yes,

1:17:43

that is. Yeah,

1:17:45

that must, that was my mom.

1:17:47

I have no idea what she was doing

1:17:49

here. Well,

1:17:52

um... For

1:17:55

what it's worth, um, she was...

1:17:59

saving people. It was doing great work. She

1:18:01

was the

1:18:03

reason we didn't

1:18:05

immediately fall to the wave of gazers that

1:18:08

swarmed this place. Well,

1:18:12

I'm glad we were able to talk

1:18:15

down the beholder that was sleeping in here to actually clear

1:18:17

out the remaining gazers, and since they've

1:18:19

left, there shouldn't be any further problems in

1:18:21

that territory. You should be

1:18:24

able to continue doing your work here without needless

1:18:28

interference. Oh,

1:18:30

I... Oh, you

1:18:33

and your mother are there. Thank you for that. So,

1:18:36

thank you. You've both

1:18:40

really gone above and beyond. Max

1:18:44

nods a bit at that kind of

1:18:46

quietly before kind of just allowing themselves

1:18:48

to float a little bit out into the hallway for

1:18:50

a moment. Uh,

1:18:53

Buford, you are welcome to be back if

1:18:56

you want to be back. Uh,

1:18:58

yeah, so Buford will turn the lights back on,

1:19:00

keeping the power off. Are

1:19:03

there any side labs in this area,

1:19:05

though? Because if possible, Buford

1:19:07

would like to steal a vial of infected

1:19:10

lycanthropy spit.

1:19:12

Oh my god. What is this

1:19:14

man up to? Give me

1:19:17

a, uh, investigation

1:19:20

roll to find some, to find

1:19:23

some lycanthropy spit. Or

1:19:26

just like any material you could use

1:19:28

to intentionally affect someone with. No,

1:19:31

I understand what you're looking for. That's

1:19:33

a 25. You tell me what you found. Oh my

1:19:35

god. What you found in there. Uh,

1:19:39

I think probably it's just like, uh,

1:19:44

you know how there's like seed banks

1:19:47

in the world and stuff like that? Or no, um,

1:19:49

like bio labs that contain like

1:19:52

pure strains of like suspended viruses

1:19:54

for like testing stuff. I

1:19:56

think Buford just pockets like

1:19:58

a container of that for himself. yourself for

1:20:00

a rainy day. You've done the equivalent of stealing

1:20:02

the petri dish of Ebola. Yeah. Yeah.

1:20:06

Huh. Okay, you have that now.

1:20:09

Yeah. Don't worry about it. I can't change the fact

1:20:11

you have that. I'm feeling sympathy

1:20:14

pains now for Laura, because

1:20:17

I play my character to try not to inconvenience

1:20:19

her. Oh no, no, no. Look,

1:20:23

it's a player's job to screw over a

1:20:25

DM's day and come up with stuff they've got to think

1:20:27

about.

1:20:28

Was I actively considering

1:20:30

stabbing myself with those werewolf teeth earlier

1:20:33

to try to give myself like, anthropy to regenerate

1:20:35

through that death ray? Yes, absolutely.

1:20:40

I mean, look,

1:20:41

look, if any of you in the

1:20:43

party wouldn't be like, and throw up that option is

1:20:45

on the table to you, but that is, that is

1:20:47

just, that is available. Yeah,

1:20:50

you're already a cyborg trucker. You're a cyborg

1:20:52

trucker werewolf. That's a hat on the hat on the

1:20:54

hat. I mean, you live your, you live your truth,

1:20:56

but. Well, I think Buford

1:20:59

might not be considering that for himself. He'd actually

1:21:02

probably be pretty worried that the meat

1:21:04

would start to regenerate and grow over

1:21:06

his robot arm, which is going

1:21:08

to be deeply physically uncomfortable.

1:21:11

I mean, look, I'll put this out there. There's

1:21:14

at least one person in this party who, if they

1:21:16

find out what you've taken is going to not

1:21:18

be happy with you. So good

1:21:20

luck with that.

1:21:22

I'm just saying that if

1:21:25

Buford's returning back to the room, they'll see like just

1:21:27

Max is kind of like

1:21:29

aimlessly floating a little bit in the hallway

1:21:31

while holding a form of thinner hands, just

1:21:33

kind of like staring in it for a little

1:21:35

bit quietly. Yeah,

1:21:38

I think Buford would see that. Max

1:21:41

seems to be having a moment. Probably

1:21:44

just going to let that one slide. I'm not a therapist. I

1:21:49

don't, I don't think Buford has

1:21:51

like the frame. Well, you know what, let me

1:21:53

think of it because I, he was going to talk

1:21:55

to Wendy about something,

1:21:57

but I just don't know what he would say to Max.

1:22:00

in this moment. Sure. I mean,

1:22:02

Wendy's in the room with the scientist probably

1:22:04

wiping your mouth with some

1:22:06

important documents they have. Because

1:22:09

she's a monster. Classified

1:22:11

dap kids, you know? Yeah. And

1:22:14

she's asking the scientist, she says, did one of you have, does

1:22:16

somebody have like propulsion technology? I

1:22:18

thought I remember someone saying something about a black hole

1:22:21

engine. Was that anything? It

1:22:23

feels like we've been here for three weeks and

1:22:25

I'm very ill.

1:22:28

I don't believe any of us said anything about a black

1:22:30

hole engine.

1:22:32

Did we? I don't think we did.

1:22:34

Did we?

1:22:35

I believe that when asked

1:22:38

why Ardwing might be here,

1:22:40

Skitch throughout, well, maybe they were trying to make

1:22:42

like a black hole engine to speed

1:22:45

up the ships.

1:22:47

Yeah. Yeah. It was an idea someone threw

1:22:49

around. I don't think it was any of the scientists, but it is, I mean,

1:22:52

it is an idea that was floated. Okay.

1:22:55

Yeah. If they have like even like data,

1:22:57

like readouts of the black hole or something that could

1:22:59

be useful to Trizzy, she would like them.

1:23:02

But yeah, she's mostly making

1:23:04

a scene until Buford gets here to talk to her.

1:23:07

Yeah. I think that, yeah, if you start

1:23:09

asking about this, they will, you know,

1:23:12

ruffle around their drawers and find like

1:23:15

some data to do with how their ship

1:23:19

balances equilibrium being on the edge of the

1:23:21

black hole and not being sucked in

1:23:24

while being sort of

1:23:26

not that far from its event horizon.

1:23:28

And they've got some sort of data on how they

1:23:32

sort of keep a stable, a stable

1:23:36

orbit around that and

1:23:38

the data on how that works. Part

1:23:40

of me is also thinking of like the

1:23:42

black hole is a metaphor for falling into the madness

1:23:45

of being a werewolf. You try to tear the edge, but

1:23:47

not go all the way. Look

1:23:51

symbolism. It's a shame we didn't throw

1:23:53

anybody in it. I think that was, I was hoping

1:23:56

there's still time. There's still time. Look,

1:23:59

that was very much.

1:23:59

a version of today's session

1:24:02

where you just opened an airlock and a bunch

1:24:04

of gazers went into a black hole and you've got

1:24:06

no information but you did get a cool set piece.

1:24:09

Yeah, it came up so no one

1:24:11

could say we did we did consider it.

1:24:15

But yeah you've gotten some paperwork to do

1:24:17

with black holes that you you can rifle

1:24:19

through your ledger Wendy.

1:24:22

Yeah Buford will walk

1:24:24

into the room and sit down next to

1:24:26

Wendy and decouple his

1:24:28

mask from his face and take a breath and

1:24:31

go uh

1:24:32

so you uh you okay kid you

1:24:34

were you were freaking out real bad

1:24:36

at the start of this. Uh

1:24:39

no gov gov I'm not okay they

1:24:41

tried to eat me I'm very small you could

1:24:43

you don't understand the that with the

1:24:45

breath in your face it's my whole face.

1:24:49

I'm surprised aren't you like a season

1:24:52

killer? Yeah of

1:24:54

people who kill me regular if someone

1:24:57

was to shoot me in the head that's fine

1:24:59

I don't want them to put their spit

1:25:01

in my blood. Are you kidding?

1:25:05

I

1:25:07

guess Buford like pause for a moment. I

1:25:10

guess I see your point but to me death is

1:25:12

all the same.

1:25:14

Yeah you were you

1:25:16

were really just kind of hanging

1:25:18

it all out there for you to be

1:25:21

zapped huh

1:25:22

you put your whole butt out there and he was

1:25:24

gonna zap it off. Yeah

1:25:27

he would have died too. What's

1:25:30

up with that don't you have to take care of

1:25:33

your sister? I thought that was more important I thought

1:25:35

you would have been like

1:25:36

no please don't kill me

1:25:38

I have to protect my sister.

1:25:42

Well I see it we're

1:25:45

on a mission trying to get something done that's

1:25:47

a beholder. I didn't necessarily

1:25:50

believe until he was actually ready to bail

1:25:53

that he would have just let us leave. Or

1:25:56

frankly even spitefully just cut the airlock

1:25:58

open on the way out and killed us. us all. So

1:26:02

wasn't that you were like, oh, dying

1:26:04

is cool and I'm ready to go. You were just like,

1:26:06

Oh, this guy is really strong and I might not be able

1:26:08

to do anything about it. I guess that's different.

1:26:10

So

1:26:13

yes, yes and no.

1:26:15

What is important is getting the job

1:26:18

done. If I died fine,

1:26:21

sucks. My sister's strong. She'll

1:26:23

be able to take care of herself. If

1:26:26

that thing got out of here and

1:26:28

still decided to cause a problem where a hop

1:26:30

skipping a jump away from a giant

1:26:33

ship. Maybe

1:26:35

it gets onto the ship causes a problem.

1:26:38

Maybe it kills everyone else here. Maybe it decides,

1:26:41

hmm, having a bunch of werewolf slaves is a good

1:26:43

idea. I had

1:26:45

away the options and figured it best

1:26:48

chance you kill it if I go down.

1:26:50

If the

1:26:53

situation was reversed, go, go. I would absolutely

1:26:56

be incinerated and trust you to avenge

1:26:58

me. But to be clear, I would

1:27:00

not get spit in my blood for you. That is

1:27:02

my line. Fair

1:27:06

enough.

1:27:08

I'll

1:27:10

tolerate murder, but I draw the

1:27:13

light and spit in my blood. It's

1:27:15

just gross. I just have

1:27:17

no offense to anyone who has nasty spit

1:27:20

in here. But y'all

1:27:22

spits nasty and I don't want it. She

1:27:25

is absolutely covering

1:27:27

for the fact that she doesn't want her body to

1:27:29

change without a permission. It's not actually grossing

1:27:32

her out. Like, you know.

1:27:34

Well, while you're talking about this in the background

1:27:36

now that the power is back on, I don't

1:27:39

know if you even noticed this at first, but in the

1:27:41

background they have just been like turning

1:27:43

on the pods and the

1:27:45

people inside have not transformed. Have

1:27:48

not transformed back or have not transformed?

1:27:53

They are still their regular species. They

1:27:55

have not. With the lights,

1:27:57

um...

1:27:59

The the turn into a

1:28:02

werewolf lights in the pods turned on

1:28:04

they have not turned into werewolves

1:28:07

I'm not a nerd. I don't know what this means

1:28:09

maxi max come nerd this What

1:28:13

what? Fucking

1:28:17

when he lays down on the floor Just

1:28:22

like that does naps max out from like

1:28:24

them sort of staring Into

1:28:26

the thing and then they float back

1:28:29

into the room to look at the pods

1:28:31

and sort of

1:28:34

Get a little look at police surprise like

1:28:36

yeah, yeah, it looks like yeah,

1:28:39

it looks like it's working It's

1:28:42

not a cure. I don't want to get any of your hopes up, but

1:28:44

it's um Look we're going

1:28:47

off of some some back of the napkin

1:28:49

mats about metabolism

1:28:51

We think that this should be effective for about

1:28:54

four or five months at a time. I

1:28:57

Mean lot long enough that it is the best sort

1:29:01

of the longest term

1:29:03

solution we've been able to offer people and and

1:29:06

long enough term that Should

1:29:09

have some people get some get their lives back a

1:29:12

little Thank

1:29:14

you for keeping us alive Thank you for

1:29:17

keeping us alive while we got this done. We

1:29:19

were very scared and we did good

1:29:21

science

1:29:23

It still makes me a little worried about how far How

1:29:29

far that beholder will go to get

1:29:32

the war that they want

1:29:34

Well at the very least If

1:29:37

they try and come here and

1:29:39

get a bunch of of werewolf army

1:29:43

members again, we're

1:29:46

gonna be pretty useless for them in a war

1:29:48

for at least five months and

1:29:50

That's

1:29:52

hopefully long enough that they'll go just find

1:29:54

someone else to try and Hopefully

1:29:58

this is one less one less faction that

1:30:00

they'll have, uh, have

1:30:03

at their side.

1:30:06

Wendy's still laying on the floor, just completely

1:30:08

wiped from this mission. And she says, well,

1:30:10

a good thing beholders hate working together because

1:30:13

that Yash guy is trying to get them all together to

1:30:15

mess up our stuff. But I mean, the chances

1:30:18

of them building an army are like the chances of

1:30:20

a illithid leaving their elder brain.

1:30:23

That's me. I'm describing me. Uh-oh.

1:30:26

Yep. Sometimes things

1:30:29

that you wouldn't think a member of a species would do

1:30:31

happen. Yeah. There's, there's

1:30:33

like two of you in the room right now and he's

1:30:35

looking at Kordazar.

1:30:36

Oh no, that's us. Coco,

1:30:39

that's us. Carried me back to

1:30:41

the ship. It's us. Oh,

1:30:43

oh, I get to be, I get to be Kordazar again. Now,

1:30:46

now, now do I. Not with that mouth.

1:30:48

Now that you won't carry him back to the ship, you,

1:30:50

I get to be Kordazar again. Do I? No,

1:30:53

not with those mandibles, mister. Kord,

1:30:56

Kord, is our picture up and starts carrying you back

1:30:58

to the ship. Uh-huh.

1:31:02

See, yes. In that case, as

1:31:05

you will head back to the, the, the

1:31:07

docking bay, I will let

1:31:09

you know. It's a good thing. Um,

1:31:12

I think it's probably a good thing that Max

1:31:14

was able to heal up Wendy, because otherwise

1:31:17

you were going to have to, uh, have

1:31:19

several hours of quarantine on the ship before

1:31:22

you could leave. Uh, you know, you're going to prevent

1:31:24

this space flu getting out. Um, and

1:31:27

it'll be, it might be apparent why

1:31:29

that's important in a moment, but, uh, Oh

1:31:31

no.

1:31:32

You, you, you get back to the

1:31:34

ship and I assume Max is going to do whatever

1:31:37

the special knock is. Mm-hmm.

1:31:40

Uh, at, at which point, um,

1:31:44

uh, Cammie opens the door, uh,

1:31:46

and is just

1:31:48

tears and snot running down the face. Just

1:31:50

like, I'm so sorry. I, I,

1:31:54

I left the docking bay. I know I said I wasn't going

1:31:56

to, and I'm sorry. Max will offer

1:31:58

up a max. We'll offer up

1:32:00

a comforting, a comforting hug and

1:32:02

just sort of like just. Just

1:32:06

like, it's okay. It's okay. Uh, there

1:32:08

was some change in plans and we weren't able to communicate.

1:32:11

Cammy, it's okay.

1:32:12

Yeah. You actually got lucky. If you were still

1:32:14

here, a beholder would have stolen your ship.

1:32:17

Uh, um, I'm

1:32:21

glad I broke

1:32:24

the rules and rest not being able

1:32:26

to come home. That's,

1:32:30

listen, that's just called improvising on the

1:32:32

job. You did fine. Okay.

1:32:35

Okay. Okay. Please next time, don't

1:32:37

tell me I can't come home if I improvise on the job.

1:32:40

Um. Remember rules are

1:32:42

for suckers except for heavy machinery rules.

1:32:45

Those are important.

1:32:46

Okay. Okay. We might want

1:32:48

to, we might want to get, we might want to get home. Um,

1:32:51

we might want to get back to the Razubian. I've

1:32:54

not heard, uh, I've, I've,

1:32:56

I've not heard from them in a little while, but last I

1:32:58

heard, um, there

1:33:02

was an infection of space clowns on, on

1:33:04

the back on the ship. Hell

1:33:06

yeah. Those dudes know how to party. Yeah.

1:33:09

People, people, people are being force

1:33:11

clowns left, right and center. Um, I,

1:33:14

maybe it's fixed. I don't know. We might want to get

1:33:16

back and check everyone's okay. Now, is this

1:33:19

something that is, because you've, you've

1:33:21

just said a wild statement. And

1:33:24

I, I get out

1:33:26

of character. I know what's happening. I

1:33:28

don't know what order these episodes are going

1:33:31

up in. I guess my understanding

1:33:33

is the space clown arc will have aired before

1:33:35

this. Okay. Um, I

1:33:38

guess the one basic question I need to

1:33:40

ask is would be for

1:33:42

no, what a space clown epidemic

1:33:45

is, I mean,

1:33:47

look, if you want to roll, uh, would

1:33:51

it be history or a corner to know about

1:33:53

space clowns as a religion,

1:33:56

but I'll take your comment. Actually,

1:33:58

religion does seem about right. Give me a.

1:33:59

religion roll to see how much you know about space clowns.

1:34:03

I got a crit. Okay. Um,

1:34:05

you know how on earth we have

1:34:08

clowns?

1:34:09

Right. Yes, I have a story about a circus

1:34:12

after this. Okay. So

1:34:14

here's the deal.

1:34:16

Clowns that we have back

1:34:18

on in Seoul, back on earth, are

1:34:21

just a pale imitation of an alien

1:34:23

species that visited earth once. Duh.

1:34:27

These aliens visited earth and we've been basing

1:34:29

like our silly little characters

1:34:32

on them, but they are a

1:34:34

species that

1:34:37

feeds and reproduces

1:34:40

on the joy of others and

1:34:42

can be pretty

1:34:45

chaotic.

1:34:48

When I was three years

1:34:50

old, I went to a circus. Yeah.

1:34:53

I got called from the audience

1:34:55

to take part in a circus act with

1:34:58

the clowns. Yeah. Um,

1:35:00

they put a red nose on

1:35:02

me and it kind of pinched a little

1:35:05

bit. So that made tiny Dan angry. So

1:35:08

I tore it off and threw it on the ground and

1:35:10

then stared down the clown until

1:35:12

they forcibly escorted me back to my

1:35:15

seat. I

1:35:17

was

1:35:18

always like this. You would have been

1:35:20

great in that arc.

1:35:21

Yeah. So the consequences

1:35:24

for space flu would have

1:35:26

been, for any

1:35:29

of you that were worried about people back on the Razubian,

1:35:31

particularly Buford with Bridget

1:35:34

going, is Bridget okay? You'd have had

1:35:36

to wait around for four or five hours.

1:35:38

I'm not able to go back and find out.

1:35:42

Cam Cam, do you got any space weed in this thing?

1:35:45

I feel like we should show up with a party gift. We're

1:35:47

gonna be, it's, we're hosts, I guess. It's our

1:35:49

ship. Um...

1:35:53

Cammy looks around very

1:35:55

unsure whether she should admit to having

1:35:58

any space weed in the vehicle. I'm not a

1:36:00

cop, I just don't want those

1:36:02

space clowns to think I'm lame. Are you asking

1:36:04

as a coworker or not? Are

1:36:13

you concerned this is an HR violation? Am I going

1:36:15

to get in trouble at work?

1:36:19

It's a human weed source violation, we

1:36:21

gotta introduce. I think Wendy literally

1:36:24

threatened to kill you earlier. I

1:36:29

don't think telling her you have weed is

1:36:31

gonna be a problem. I

1:36:33

just didn't want her to, I didn't, okay. I

1:36:37

was gonna say,

1:36:39

Wendy feels bad about her, a joking

1:36:41

thing getting really out of hand about don't leave

1:36:43

us or not allowed to come home. I thought that was more

1:36:46

playful than it turned out. So Wendy is trying

1:36:48

to reassure her, like pats her on their shoulder and says,

1:36:50

you don't have to tell me about your space weed. I'll

1:36:52

tell the clowns you smoked it all and they'll be like, wow,

1:36:54

she sounds cool. She

1:36:57

took it seriously because she didn't want to be the new Barry

1:36:59

who's like, oh, fuck Barry. The

1:37:02

Cami didn't want to be the new Barry. No

1:37:05

one could replace Barry, he's a unique angel.

1:37:08

Just like Lucifer.

1:37:09

Yeah, Cami does have some space

1:37:12

weed in the glove compartment.

1:37:15

Look, I can roll it up by putting myself inside

1:37:17

like a sleeping bag, wee. Hold

1:37:20

on a second, I offered you a cigar last

1:37:22

time we were on one of these and you said,

1:37:25

how would I smoke this? Well,

1:37:28

the other said, those cigars are pretty big

1:37:31

comparison, you know? She is inside

1:37:33

of it like a sleeping bag. I

1:37:35

mean, look, that's just, that's, listen, that's just,

1:37:38

that's just a lot, that allows her to get a contact high,

1:37:40

all right, you know? I just prefer

1:37:43

space weed to cigars. You

1:37:45

know what they say, taste

1:37:48

is in the eye of the beholder.

1:37:50

Ah! There's

1:37:53

still time to fly straight into that black

1:37:56

hole.

1:37:56

Ha ha ha ha ha! You
