The US is often referred to as The Land of The Free. Private companies (AC and C) have gone into contracts with local government and states are required to keep their prisons full even if nobody is committing crime. The prison industrial complex has become the largest growth industry in the US and with 5 % of the world’s population the US has 25% of the prisoners. The privatisation of the prison service has created an economic model which requires more and more prisoners to support it and puts innocent families in debt setting up inmates for a much tougher integration on release.
