And I'm starting to freeze up because I'm suddenly

0:09

sensing a different energy from

0:11

him.

0:13

She continued to smirk but didn't want

0:15

to answer me. Up

0:18

until this point, I couldn't have convinced

0:20

myself that they wanted our valuables, but

0:22

this voice made me understand that

0:25

he wanted. Us.

From disturbed media, join

0:31

your host, Chad, for tentails

0:34

of horror, bizarre happenings,

0:37

and unexplainable events. This

0:40

is disturbed Welcome

1:07

back in, everyone, and thanks for

1:09

joining me. This week,

1:12

I'm bringing you three true horrifying

1:15

tales that will frighten and

1:17

disturb. So sit back

1:19

and listen close as we dive

1:22

into the horror We

1:25

opened the show hearing from Reddit user's spirit

1:27

of an Angie featuring voice

1:30

work by Sarah Thomas, and

1:32

we meet the police man.

1:38

So my friend and I are underaged, a

1:40

little buzzed from party hopping all night.

1:43

We roll up to Wendy's and ditch the empty

1:45

bottles of smeared off ice as we wait for

1:47

our food at two AM in the drive thru.

1:50

I had no idea that it was illegal to

1:52

be out past a certain time if you are under eighteen,

1:54

unsupervised, and it's past twelve

1:56

PM in Arizona. I catch a

1:58

text from a friend and she asks me to

2:00

get her order and will meet us at this

2:02

intersection and will eat with us. Okay,

2:05

sounds true enough. I get to the intersection

2:07

and there aren't any gas stations or grocery

2:10

stores. Just some creepy office buildings

2:12

and a dirt lot. I stupidly

2:15

picked the dirt lot to wait for my friend who

2:17

calls me and is like, Is that you

2:19

with the cops behind you? And

2:21

I was like, no. Only

2:23

to discover that impact cops were

2:26

behind me. Luckily, the

2:28

car smelled like food and not booze and

2:30

cigarettes. But the cop knew I was

2:32

under the influence and had a large bottle

2:34

of rum that had already been opened that tried

2:36

desperately to hide under shit from my car

2:38

before he knocked on my window. He's

2:40

not stupid. This cop asks

2:43

me and my friend for our parents phone numbers.

2:45

My friend's mom gets a call to come pick her up

2:47

and gets a verbal lashing from the cop about

2:49

being underage past curfew and

2:52

explains the citations so I already

2:54

know what was coming. I,

2:56

however, didn't have a voice mail set up

2:58

on my new Nokia backbone and

3:01

refused to give my parents house phone

3:03

back when these were bill everywhere. I

3:06

told him they simply didn't have one,

3:08

only a cell number, and I put

3:10

it to silent as he repeatedly called

3:12

it. I tell him they were

3:14

probably out with friends themselves, and

3:16

the cop says, okay, explains

3:18

the ticket to me. I think I'm going to

3:20

get away, Scott Free. When he says he's

3:22

going to follow me home. I

3:25

made sure to go the speed limit and not make

3:27

any errors, but I'm

3:29

shitting myself right now. I parked

3:31

my car in front of my house and my parents'

3:33

cars are in the closed garage. Dark

3:36

house. Yes. It

3:38

looks like no one is home. The

3:40

cop proceeded to park his car and

3:42

says, hey, you could have broken

3:44

the rules a little with getting home. I

3:46

wasn't going to pull you over twice now.

3:49

As he followed me to the front door. I

3:51

unlock it and nervously said, thank

3:53

you. But he instead

3:55

of ringing the doorbell or doing their famous

3:57

police officer knock follows

3:59

me into my house and

4:02

locks the door behind us. He's

4:04

talking to me, making small conversation,

4:07

checking out my living room. And I'm starting

4:09

to freeze up because I'm suddenly sensing

4:11

a different energy from him.

4:14

He asks me where my bedroom is.

4:17

He tells me to take him to it. I

4:19

instead took him into my parents room

4:22

and turned on the light. One hundred

4:24

percent thankful to see my sleepy

4:26

eyed parents shocked to see an

4:28

armed grown man behind their young

4:30

daughter. And he just lets out of breath

4:32

and says in my ear.

4:34

You lied to me sweetheart. And

4:36

she goes back into police mode telling

4:39

my parents that he found me out at an illegal

4:41

time and that I'd need to pay a fine and

4:43

attend a class. It was

4:45

so embarrassing because I was eighteen

4:47

by the time I had to take the class with bunch of

4:49

twelve to fourteen year olds anyway. I

4:52

never told anyone until now about

4:54

the comments he made to me, but my dad

4:56

did ask him why he was in our house.

4:59

I told him didn't understand that either.

5:02

He never read me any rights. He just

5:04

followed me home. Before he

5:06

left, he said, That's a nice

5:08

house phone you have right there. Looks

5:10

new and shiny, as the last

5:12

thing he told me before letting me go. I

5:14

can't help but think back to that night. I'm

5:17

thinking about what would happen if I

5:19

had had bad parents who weren't

5:21

home or were out of town, etcetera.

5:24

I know there are good cops out there. I

5:26

personally know some. I go back and forth

5:28

between being freaked out to,

5:31

okay, maybe he was just being thorough.

5:34

The comments are what stuck with me though,

5:36

and that sinking gut feeling.

6:05

Up next, we check-in with Reddit user,

6:07

Canadian Gal three, featuring

6:10

voice work by Tanya Eby, and

6:12

we get stuck in a bad situation.

6:23

In my late teens and early twenties, I

6:25

was friends with a girl named Lucy. She

6:27

was a very lonely kind of girl whose parents

6:30

were. Well, honestly, really

6:32

shitty parents. Her mother was verbally

6:34

abusive and her father really couldn't

6:36

care less about anything. Because

6:39

of the lack of love in her life, Lucy

6:41

searched through dating sites for love and

6:43

comfort from strange men. And

6:45

she was not afraid of meeting them face to face

6:48

even if they'd been chatting for only a few days.

6:51

My friendship with Lucy was a strange one.

6:53

I found her quite annoying sometimes, but

6:56

I also felt awful for her

6:58

because of her loneliness and lack of friends

7:00

and love in her life. Sometimes

7:03

I really didn't want to hang out with her.

7:05

And some days, I would accept her offer to

7:07

hang out. When it was just her

7:09

and I together, She was normal and

7:11

okay to be around, but also very

7:13

appreciative of having someone giving

7:15

her attention. We had a small group

7:17

of friends, and she would try to get all

7:19

of us together as often as possible. And

7:22

honestly, the whole group together

7:24

was really quite fun. When we were

7:26

all together, Lucy was very hyper

7:28

and you could just tell that she was happy

7:30

to be around people who didn't insult

7:33

her as her mother does. Suddenly,

7:35

Lucy tells us she has a boyfriend. We

7:38

were all surprised because we knew she

7:40

met a lot of guys online. But

7:42

we had never heard her say she was dating

7:44

someone. A few days later,

7:46

she sets up a day for our friend group to meet

7:48

Trevor. None of us were looking

7:50

forward to it. Because we thought he was

7:53

going to be like all the others, a

7:55

temporary boy toy. When

7:57

we met him, we all felt awkward.

8:00

He barely spoke a word. He wouldn't

8:02

look directly at any of us at all.

8:04

Lucy would try to be funny, but he

8:07

would just give her dirty looks. Needless

8:09

to say, We thought he was a weird

8:11

one and could tell he didn't care much

8:13

for her. As the days went on,

8:15

Lucy kept telling me how much Trevor did

8:18

not like me. This was weird

8:20

because no one ever disliked me.

8:22

I am always polite, respectful, and

8:24

I smile a lot at everyone. But

8:26

for some reason, he did not like me.

8:29

She kept saying he thinks I am using

8:31

Lucy for her money. Not

8:33

sure how he thought that since I paid for everything

8:35

for Lucy. To keep this piece of

8:37

the story short, I think he was trying

8:40

to find reasons to convince her to get rid of me.

8:42

I got a terrible vibe from Trevor. He

8:45

dressed like didn't care about life, He

8:47

never smiled. He didn't shake our

8:49

hands when first meeting us. He's stank

8:51

of weed and really had an overall

8:54

uncomfortable feeling about him. After

8:56

months of Trevor trying to convince Lucy

8:58

that I am a terrible friend and she should

9:00

not hang out with me anymore, she

9:02

started to do as he said. She would

9:04

start to hide me from him. If she

9:06

and I were together and he would call her on her

9:08

phone, she would lie and say I wasn't

9:11

there. If she was with the group

9:13

of friends, he would have her swear

9:15

I wasn't there. When he was going

9:17

to be joining the group on an outing or just

9:19

hanging out at her place, she would tell

9:21

me I couldn't come. Lucy

9:23

will do whatever a boyfriend says just

9:26

to keep pleasing him so she doesn't lose

9:28

them. Now, here's where

9:30

it gets scary. Lucy calls me one

9:32

day and says she wants me to come hang

9:34

out at her place. I agreed. She

9:37

came to pick me up. We went to our house

9:39

and watched TV for a bit. We

9:41

then decided since it's a nice day outside,

9:44

we would take her two dogs for a walk to a nearby

9:46

pocket park and would later return

9:48

to the house to have lunch together. While

9:50

at this park, she receives a phone call.

9:53

Now, let me see that Lucy is not

9:55

a private person what soever and

9:57

has never ever walked away

9:59

to answer a phone call until

10:01

this day. She walked far

10:04

enough away that she knew I would not be able

10:06

to hear anything she said. This

10:08

was suspicious to me, but not enough

10:10

to question it. The call ends and

10:13

she begins walking toward me. With a

10:15

look on her faces if she is trying not

10:17

to smile. She tells me,

10:20

so I need to bring you home now. That

10:22

was slightly confused as we had only

10:24

been together for about an hour when

10:26

we usually spend the entire day together

10:29

And she would never want me to go home.

10:31

She would even frequently beg me to sleep

10:33

over to avoid being alone. I

10:35

said, okay, and we walked to drop off

10:37

her dogs at home, and we got into her

10:39

car and off we went. About

10:42

ten minutes into the car ride, I realized

10:45

She isn't going in the direction of my house.

10:47

So I questioned it. Where

10:50

are we going? She smirked

10:52

but didn't respond. I asked

10:54

again laughing uncomfortably. Seriously,

10:58

where are we going? She

11:00

continued to smirk but didn't want to

11:02

answer me. I started to realize

11:05

she was heading in the direction of where her boyfriend

11:07

left. Oh hell no.

11:09

I asked one last time with anger in

11:11

my voice Where are you taking

11:14

me? Her only response was

11:16

bone chilling to me. Trevor

11:18

wants to talk to you. Nope.

11:20

Nope. I

11:22

wasn't having any of this. I

11:25

insisted and demanded, she let me

11:27

out of the car. But with her evil

11:29

smirk and same response, She said

11:31

it again. It's okay. He

11:34

just wants to talk to you. I

11:36

was furious at this point because

11:38

this creepy guy who looks like he wants to kill

11:40

someone who also despised me,

11:42

wanted to talk to me. Why

11:45

can't he talk to me on the phone?

11:47

Why do I need to go to a sketchy apartment?

11:50

She absolutely refused to

11:52

let me out of the car. She had the doors

11:54

locked. As if I wasn't able to unlock

11:57

my passenger door. I waited

11:59

until she reached a red light. I grabbed

12:01

her wallet from the back seat. And took out

12:03

her bus pass and bolted out of the car.

12:06

I had no idea where I was or

12:08

where the nearest bus stop was. But

12:10

I was not about to let her crazy ass

12:12

boyfriend do whatever he wanted to me.

12:15

She yelled for me to get back into the car, but

12:17

Of course, I ignored her. She

12:20

sped off furiously. I

12:22

immediately blocked her number on my phone.

12:24

I removed her as my friend on social media

12:27

and immediately warned the group of friends

12:29

not to talk to her because she

12:31

has gone nuts. I have

12:33

not spoken to her since that very day,

12:36

and she also lost the other five friends

12:38

of the group as well. After

12:40

this situation, Lucy, I

12:42

hope you're truly lonely now.

13:25

And finally, we close out the show hearing

13:27

from Reddit user, Human Cake 7284,

13:31

featuring voice work by Melissa Modena,

13:33

and we check who at the door.

13:41

This experience happened to my roommates and

13:43

I in our second year of University. The

13:46

city we went to school in was considered

13:48

a very safe university town.

13:50

The most we had heard of happening was drunk

13:52

morons doing typical drunk moron

13:54

things. This was also the first

13:56

time that we were all really living on

13:58

our own. First year residences are

14:01

nice, but it's basically an extended

14:03

summer camp rather than a typical living

14:05

situation. The four of us girls

14:07

lived in a nice townhouse that never once

14:09

had a creepy vibe or weird neighbors

14:12

in the months we had lived there. The only

14:14

eerie part was that every weekend, we

14:16

were the only people who stayed in the complex.

14:19

All of our neighbors either went home

14:21

or stayed elsewhere until returning Monday

14:23

for classes. This was never something

14:25

we had given a second thought to. Considering

14:28

that was fairly normal for a uni town,

14:30

especially because our complex was

14:33

only made up of about four other

14:35

townhouses. The complex was

14:37

surrounded by walking trails and farm

14:39

fields, which we loved. It was

14:41

like our quiet spot away from the chaos

14:43

of college kids. There were a few

14:45

farm houses we could see from our backyard,

14:48

but other than that, we were fairly secluded.

14:50

The university was about a twenty minute

14:53

bus ride away, which was never a big

14:55

deal for any of us, especially because

14:57

the rent was far cheaper here than

14:59

in places that were within walking distance

15:01

to campus. Being five foot

15:03

six, I was the tallest by a considerable

15:06

amount. I was also the only one out

15:08

of the group who had been in a handful of

15:10

scary situations. Due to

15:12

this, I was the only one up to this

15:14

point who would lock the doors, windows,

15:17

and garage before leaving or going

15:19

to bed. My roommates all grew up

15:21

in small, very safe towns, so

15:23

it was uncommon for them to lock doors

15:25

back home. They were all so incredibly

15:28

kind and trusting to everyone, never

15:30

considering hidden bad intentions. The

15:33

night in questions started very normally.

15:36

We had planned on having a wine and movie

15:38

night. This was kind of like a weekly

15:40

tradition for us. We would pick out

15:42

some stupid movie get takeout

15:44

and get a little buzz after a long

15:46

week of classes and work. At

15:48

this point, it was early November. So

15:51

we had been doing this for several months with

15:53

no issues. By eight thirty

15:55

ish, we had all settled on the couch in

15:57

our living room and had started a comedy

15:59

With it being November, it was already completely

16:02

dark outside other than our porch

16:04

light we could see from the small window at the

16:06

very top of our door. None of

16:08

us were tall enough to see anything out of

16:10

that window anyway, so we relied entirely

16:13

on our people. It took a great

16:15

amount of effort for me to convince my roommates

16:17

to check the people before opening

16:19

the door. This was a talk we

16:21

had after one roommate had opened the door

16:24

for our neighbor's very drunk friend

16:26

who threw up all over our main floor.

16:29

Not long after ordering our takeout, we

16:31

heard banging on our front door. Jess

16:34

made a joke about how the delivery guy must

16:36

have taken a helicopter to get here this quickly,

16:39

especially considering the place we ordered

16:41

from was very close to campus. It

16:44

was not a typical delivery guy's

16:46

knock either, but between

16:48

the few glasses of wine and carefree

16:50

attitude of the night, We didn't really

16:52

pay it too much mind. It was

16:54

my roommates turn to pay this week.

16:57

I'll call her Megg for the sake of the story.

16:59

Out of the group, she is the smallest

17:01

barely five foot. She's also

17:04

the most trusting person I think I have

17:06

ever met. She ran up

17:08

to her room to grab her wallet. This took

17:10

almost thirty seconds. During

17:12

this time, the banging continued

17:14

and was getting more aggressive. I

17:17

figured maybe it was cold or he had

17:19

other shit to do, so we yelled up

17:21

to get her to hurry. The banging

17:23

continued to get harder and harder.

17:26

And I started to feel a bit

17:28

uneasy. When she came back down,

17:30

I told her to check the peephole before

17:32

opening it as she was usually the one

17:35

to just open up. She got to

17:37

the door and looked at the people.

17:39

She could barely reach it on a good day,

17:41

so when she said she couldn't see anything, my

17:44

other roommate and I got up to help.

17:46

My second roommate, I'll call her Jess,

17:48

is a very funny person. There

17:51

are very few things that she would not turn

17:53

into a joke. Jess got to the door

17:55

before I did and looked out the peephole.

17:58

The person on the other side was still

18:00

banging away. When she turned

18:02

to look at me, I knew something was

18:04

wrong. She looked incredibly

18:07

confused A look I had rarely

18:09

seen from her as she was very clever.

18:12

Within a second, she had gone back in

18:14

for another look. This time,

18:16

her face was not confused. She

18:19

looked afraid. This

18:21

made my stomach not up. She

18:24

is a horror movie fanatic and

18:26

she doesn't scare easily. I

18:28

think someone's covering the people. She

18:30

whispered shouted at us. This

18:32

time, I looked out of the people seeing

18:34

that, yep, something was covering

18:36

the people. We could still see

18:39

the porch lights shining through the window at

18:41

the top. So we knew it was not a

18:43

case of it being too dark to be able to

18:45

see what was going on. By now,

18:47

our other roommate whom I'll call Anne,

18:49

had walked down the hall trying to find

18:51

out what was going on. She was

18:54

easily the drunkest of the four of us.

18:56

Even sober though, she seemed to think

18:58

she was invincible. What is

19:00

your problem open the door? The poor dude

19:02

has his hands full? Was Anne's

19:04

wise idea? Jess and I

19:06

explained what was going on. At this

19:08

point, Meg, Jess and I

19:10

had a gut feeling that something

19:12

was wrong. That is when

19:15

Jess asked Meg to check the website

19:17

she had ordered our food on. Meg

19:20

had not placed the order. Between

19:22

the wine and the silliness of the earlier

19:24

night, she had selected our food

19:26

but did not finish the last step.

19:29

The banging continued as our situation

19:32

started to sink in. Anne still

19:34

did not seem to grasp what was happening

19:36

and tried to unlock the door. Stop.

19:39

I snapped at her. Immediately, I

19:42

knew it was too loud. For the

19:44

first time, the person on the other

19:46

side of the door Spoke. This

19:48

is the police open the door now. We

19:50

have a few questions to ask you. A

19:53

man's voice practically growled back

19:55

at us. This sobered

19:57

me up right away. I looked over at

19:59

Meg who was already welling up than

20:01

at Jess who had gone completely pale.

20:04

At this point, Anne also realized

20:07

something was not right and froze,

20:09

which is the least Anne thing she could have

20:11

done. The banging was getting

20:14

increasingly harder. To the point

20:16

we could physically see the door breathe

20:18

with each hit, MEG took

20:20

Anne upstairs trying to calm each other

20:23

down and check if there was a police car

20:25

parked outside and make sure our windows

20:27

were locked. Though it was hard to

20:29

do, it was possible to get onto

20:31

part of our roof that made it possible to

20:33

get to Anne's window. We

20:35

heard a window slam immediately knowing

20:38

that it had been Anne's window. Being

20:40

a bit of a thrill seeker, Anne had taken

20:42

out her window screen in order to sit on

20:44

the roof. For some reason,

20:46

this made what was happening very

20:49

real. Show me your badge,

20:51

then we'll open the door. I yelled back.

20:54

Instead of a response, it sounded

20:56

like the guy started to kick the

20:58

door. I told just to call the

21:00

police and ask if they had an officer dispatch

21:03

to our address. Jess was

21:05

shaking so badly at this point that it

21:07

was hard for her to dial. Now

21:09

Megg had come back down the stairs, sharing

21:11

that there was no police car parked outside

21:14

and trailed behind her standing

21:16

on the stair landing trying to get a good

21:18

look outside the window at the top of the door.

21:21

At that moment, My blood

21:23

ran cold remembering that

21:26

the man at the door had said we

21:28

and not I. Jess

21:31

had just come to the same realization. She

21:34

sprinted to our back door a large

21:36

sliding glass door, which she double checked

21:38

that it was locked. Thankfully, it

21:40

happened. She drew the curtains

21:42

as well trying to minimize the chance

21:44

of them seeing in. Within a

21:46

minute, the knocking started at our

21:48

back door as well. Thank god

21:50

she had closed the curtains because the idea

21:53

of seeing whoever was doing that

21:55

still gives me chills. Uncover

21:58

the peephole and show me your badge. I

22:00

yelled again trying to sound as intimidating

22:03

as a young college girl could. We

22:05

were met. With silence which

22:07

was so much worse than

22:09

the banging. What is your badge

22:11

number, at least, prove to us that you are the

22:13

police? I screamed trying to

22:16

keep my voice from breaking. The

22:18

only response I got back was

22:20

a gravely. I can't do that.

22:23

Jess, had handed her phone off to Meg

22:26

who was sobbing now, trying

22:28

to speak to the dispatcher. The

22:30

banging now coming from both sides

22:32

of the house must have been hurt by the operator.

22:35

Is there someone trying to break in? She

22:37

asked Meg obviously being unable

22:39

to understand her. MEG frantically

22:42

asked if police had been sent to our house.

22:44

The answer we all knew by now

22:47

was no. Meg babble

22:49

that at least who men tried to get us to

22:51

unlock the door by impersonating a police

22:53

officer. Try to stay

22:56

on the phone with me. Police are on

22:58

their way. To your address.

23:00

The operator told Meg, how long

23:02

was he pee? Meg asked back.

23:05

No

23:05

more than ten minutes. She responded.

23:08

That made mec cry harder realizing

23:11

just how long ten minutes

23:14

really is. The door

23:16

was being hit so hard I worried

23:18

it would break. Jess ran

23:20

back toward our back door, making me worry

23:22

that our kitchen window had been open,

23:25

trying to think I put a share under

23:27

the doorknob and sat down hoping the

23:29

door would hold. Jess came

23:31

back to the front door holding a kitchen

23:33

knife and a fire extinguisher. Which

23:35

were the only things we had to protect

23:37

ourselves with in case they got in.

23:40

Anne, now sitting on the landing, flinched

23:43

with each hit. Anne was

23:45

farmed tough and had no issue dealing

23:47

with animals three times her size.

23:49

What was happening now though was entirely

23:52

different. We had nothing to

23:55

really her whoever wanted in, no

23:57

prods, and no backup until the

23:59

real police showed up, not

24:01

like what she was used to. She grew

24:03

up having families, her neighbors, her whole

24:05

life. If anything were happening,

24:07

her uncles and grandfather were at her

24:09

front door in a minute flat. And

24:12

I'm invincible attitude was

24:14

long gone. She was now

24:16

as scared as the rest of us, only

24:18

having some wood and glass keeping

24:20

these men out. Each

24:22

hit to the back door made me expect

24:25

whoever was there to break

24:27

through the glass. Open the

24:29

fucking door. The man yelled at us,

24:31

not caring if we thought they were police anymore.

24:34

Then it got very quiet

24:36

again which made me

24:39

wanna throw up. The only

24:41

thing worse than what was happening was

24:43

not knowing where the men were. The

24:46

idea of both men moving

24:48

to the back door made me absolutely

24:51

terrified if they really

24:53

wanted to. It would be very little

24:55

effort to smash through the plate

24:57

glass. Instead, the

24:59

knocking at the back door had

25:01

completely ceased. Within

25:04

seconds of that, the front door

25:06

started being hit again, trying

25:09

to wrap my mind around why they would

25:11

leave the easiest entry for

25:13

heavy wood. I realized the

25:15

back door was visible to the main

25:17

road. Whether they had seen a

25:19

car or heard us talking to the police,

25:22

they were smart enough to not want to

25:24

be seen by anyone. Jess

25:26

then said something that I had not thought

25:28

of, I don't think they want to rob

25:30

us there are so many houses that are

25:33

empty. Why would they come to the only

25:35

house with the lights on? She hissed.

25:38

My whole body went

25:40

cold. I did not have an

25:42

answer. All I could say was,

25:45

fuck, you're right. Meg

25:47

clearly felt the same because at this point

25:49

she was practically hyperventilating. The

25:52

three of us stayed quiet for a minute,

25:54

awful scenarios running through our

25:56

heads. Anne moved back up

25:59

the last few steps and out of sight of

26:01

us. The operator who we

26:03

had forgotten was on speaker spoke,

26:05

which practically made me jump out of my

26:07

skin. She must have felt how terrified

26:10

we were and tried to calm us down.

26:13

Are two minutes away. They have their sirens

26:16

turned off and the lights are on.

26:18

You should be able to see them very

26:20

soon. Stay on the phone with me

26:22

so I can confirmed when you're outside for

26:24

you.

26:25

She said, the men outside were

26:27

starting to seem desperate. The

26:29

sound of glass shattering had me

26:31

turning to the back door fully expecting

26:33

to go into offense, but the door

26:35

was still intact. Instead,

26:38

our porch light the only light

26:40

illuminating our dark street went

26:43

out, which put two and

26:45

two together for me, understanding

26:47

that they had destroyed the only

26:50

way we would have been able to identify whoever

26:52

was on the other side. Fuck

26:54

your little hoarse. A voice we

26:56

hadn't heard before. Whoever was at

26:59

the back door spat. This

27:01

was worse than the initial speaker.

27:04

It was full of so much hate

27:06

and venom that it scared me more

27:09

than the banging. He was so

27:11

calm. Intent on whatever

27:13

his goal was. It didn't feel

27:15

like how the first man had sounded. Up

27:18

until this point, I couldn't have convinced

27:20

myself that they wanted our valuables, but

27:22

this voice made me understand that

27:25

he wanted us. To

27:28

this day, I've never heard of waste

27:30

come close to that level of

27:32

malice. It sounded like he wanted

27:34

to inflict serious harm on

27:36

us And if he had gained entry,

27:39

I know he would have. Somehow,

27:42

I wanted the first man to speak again

27:44

instead of whichever sick bastard

27:46

had just spoken. I looked

27:49

at Meg. I know how terrified

27:51

I must have looked. Until now,

27:53

I may have done a half decent job

27:55

at hiding how scared I was, but that

27:57

voice ruined my ability

27:59

to stay stone faced. Meg

28:01

looked like a scared little girl, and

28:04

that made me panic. If

28:06

they got in, there is nothing I would

28:08

be able to do to stop them,

28:10

not for me, and not for my

28:12

friends. We would have been at the

28:14

mercy of the monster outside. Jess

28:17

had practically stopped breathing. It

28:19

was like the oxygen had been sucked

28:21

out of the air. It was so

28:24

quiet. It sounded like a

28:26

gunshot when our mailbox opened.

28:28

Anne ran back down the stairs.

28:31

I see the sirens. They're coming down the main

28:33

road now. She whispered hoping not

28:35

to have the men here. The same

28:37

man spoke again one more time,

28:40

so slowly that I almost thought he

28:42

was done after each word. In

28:44

that same awful, calm

28:46

voice, he read out a letter

28:49

addressed to the four of us. Our

28:51

neighbor must have put it in today.

28:54

She had planned a potluck for the

28:56

next week. None of us thought to

28:58

check the mailbox after we had talked

29:00

to her in the driveway this morning. Just

29:03

Meg, M0P.

29:07

Those are nice names. I'll

29:09

be back soon, girls. Then

29:12

we'll have some fun. I

29:14

felt tears rolling down

29:16

my face. hadn't realized

29:19

I had started crying, but

29:21

I knew he meant what he had said.

29:23

I tried to pull my mind out of the

29:25

dark pit that that sentence had sent

29:28

it to, waiting, praying

29:30

that the police had apprised them

29:32

hoping they would not get the chance

29:35

to come back. The silence

29:38

continue None of us

29:40

dared to speak, worried that

29:42

we would not hear if they moved

29:44

to another point of entry. Instead,

29:47

the silence per assisted for what

29:49

felt like a lifetime. The

29:52

operator was the first one to speak again,

29:55

telling us that the police are out front

29:58

She told us to stay in the house until the

30:00

police knocked on the door. The

30:02

kind woman stayed on the phone with us

30:04

for several more minutes. While the police

30:06

searched around the area. Finally,

30:09

the real police showed their badge

30:11

to the peephole before even knocking

30:13

to try not to scare us. The

30:15

operator told us that we had done well

30:17

and that we were in good hands now.

30:20

We opened the door to be met by two

30:22

kind looking older police officers

30:24

who we let in. Glass shards

30:27

covered our front stoop from our porch light.

30:29

It looked like it had been ripped out of the

30:31

wall and smashed onto the concrete

30:34

below. There were several police

30:36

cars out front of our previously quiet

30:39

home. The headlights on all of

30:41

the cars were shining down the street

30:43

towards the walking trail. We

30:45

spoke to the officers who took a report

30:47

from us. They asked us to describe

30:50

the night's events in detail. They

30:52

asked us if we saw them at all, and

30:54

we explained how the people had been covered

30:56

and the light had been smashed before moving

30:59

away from the door. The officers

31:01

advised us to speak to our landlord about,

31:03

at the very least, security cameras.

31:06

The older officer then closed the

31:08

pad he had been riding in and looked

31:10

up at us. He then spoke a

31:12

phrase that made me understand how

31:14

much danger we had been in.

31:17

Look, if any of you were my daughters, I

31:19

would have wanted the officer to tell her.

31:21

If you can get out of your lease, do

31:23

it. THEY KNOW WHERE YOU ALL LIVE

31:25

AND THEY ALSO KNOW THE RESPONSE TIME

31:27

FOR US, ESPECIALLY AFTER TELLING

31:29

YOU ALL THAT HE WOULD BE BACK. After

31:32

that, they asked if we had heard a vehicle.

31:34

That was something I had not considered. We

31:37

did not hear any type of motor until

31:39

the police were there. Even when

31:41

Meghan Anne had gone to look for a police

31:44

car, they saw no cars on the

31:46

street at all. So likely

31:48

that meant that they had come from the walking path

31:50

which would explain how they left without

31:53

passing the police on their way back to the

31:55

main road. The older officer

31:57

of the two had a look that told me he

31:59

had an idea of what was going on.

32:01

He looked sad, which was worse

32:03

than if he had looked scared. I

32:05

knew he had seen the situation end.

32:08

Far worse in the past. We

32:11

pushed for an explanation, but were only

32:13

told that this had been an issue years ago,

32:16

but did not elaborate past that point.

32:18

The officers stood up, exchanged

32:21

a glance that I did not know how to

32:23

read, and then spoke again.

32:25

We will have a cruiser parked in the driveway

32:27

as well as a plain car around the back.

32:30

They will not have a chance to try

32:32

again. They did not catch

32:34

the men in the two more weeks we lived

32:36

there. We had a few creepy

32:38

things, but nothing close to this.

32:41

The reality was they had not

32:43

been caught and they could come

32:45

back anytime. After

32:47

this night, we spoke to our landlady

32:49

who was incredible. She owned

32:52

several properties around the city, and when

32:54

we explained what had happened, she let

32:56

us move to an apartment closer to campus.

32:59

She told us that our safety is

33:01

more important than making a few hundred

33:03

dollars. She even left the house

33:05

empty for many months in order to

33:07

make sure cameras, better locks,

33:09

and a reinforced back door. Thankfully,

33:13

they did not come back, and we were

33:15

able to enjoy our new apartment without

33:17

worrying. This is still so

33:19

scary to me because of that voice.
