What's your story?
Are you strong and resilient? Can you see that you've had challenges in your life that you've come through, and understand why you perhaps ate emotionally to soothe the pain? Do you reflect back and now see that you perhaps just didn't know any better... that you hadn't come across the concept that our overeating can be a habit that can be changed, and a pattern that's become subconsciously programmed over time?
Or, are you feeling useless and powerless in the face of sweets and crisps (or insert your favourite binge food here). Deep down you may feel that you'll never really be able to change any of this, after all, you've tried so many times and it's just not possible. Are you just a failure, destined to binge and overeat for the rest of your life and to carry around extra pounds?
The story that you tell yourself now creates your future. If you are deep in the shame spiral, telling yourself that it's always been this way so it always will be, guess what? That's exactly what you'll create.
Us emotional eaters tend to eat to feel relief from pain and struggle, so when we dwell on the past and beat ourselves up this often creates more overeating and restriction cycles - the very core of yo-yo dieting.
