In honor of Women In Horror Month we will be discussing the most important female director you’ve never heard of: Alice Guy-Blaché. It is believed she was the first person ever to create a horror film (back in the early 1900’s) and has a long list of filmmaking accomplishments that deserve to be known. Alice has had a significant impact on cinema ranging from creating the first narrative film, experimenting with effects, adding sound to film, as well as encouraging actors to “be natural” during the silent era of theatrical and over exaggerated acting. She was a pioneer who spent the last half of her life fighting for recognition in an industry that largely forgot her.
