Driving Optimism

Episode 5 = Silver Linings Playbook (Recap on the good of Covid)

The overarching point = Change is good.   But yes, it doesnt always come easy.

“Change happens gradually, then suddenly” - Not our quote but great!

Change in Health Care System

Move to innovative public-private hybrid models

Individually - Private over public perception must change

Collectively - Making it effective immediately must be a focus for the change

Change in Economic System and Small Business support

Wages will rise - Bc labor market will shrink (contraction, automation, innovation)

Corporate Triple Bottom Line will matter for all consumers

Small Business - growing with support from local (even if change is price)

Change in Education - Always On Learning AOL!!!! (We didnt get to cover today)

Teachers will have new skills in digital (and new side hustles)

Hopefully also paid more, so dont need side hustles

Parents understand the value of teacher’s experience and their own time

Change in Workplace -

Physical, organizational and hierarchical changes in the workplace

More remote work is supported and smaller cities get bigger more dynamic dwellers

Shane cautions on not everything you can measure, matters - find the right metrics

Change in Families -

Its cool to be close again!  Lets hope family bonding endures

Its ok to address issues directly and bravely  - lets hope this continues too

Change in our Brains

We’ll leave you with a few quotes from a great read on how this chaos may be good for our cognitive agility and creativity.  Could the pandemic be improving our brains?  YES!

Exposure to absurdity made people twice as insightful. “

“In normal times, when the things around us make sense, our brains work on default mode. “
