After initially meeting in year 10 over their love of Chance the Rapper’s ‘Acid Rap’ mixtape, who knew that years later Elijah Manu & Albert Purcell would go on to become New Zealand’s leaders in hip-hop as the duo Church & AP.
The duo’s big break came just before Summer ‘18 when ‘Ready Or Not’ was making the rounds as a radio exclusive through New Zealand. Now 4 million plays later, Church & AP have become frontrunners of a whole new sound New Zealand has never heard before.
Recently releasing their debut album ‘TEETH’, Church & AP have brought this new alternative hip-hop sound to Aoteroa. Working closely with producer Dera Meelan, the two have moved away from the traditional hip-hop and trap soundscape to create their very own lane. As they approach their sophomore album, the duo have teased a trio of tracks ‘Aston Martin’, ‘War Outside’ and ‘60K’ further proving there’s no one making music quite like Church & AP in Aotearoa.
Church and AP were this week awarded the best Hip Hp artist at the Aotearoa Music Awards
