Some places in America are famous for just one unexplained phenomenon or event, but Freetown-Fall River State Forest is home to dozens of strange things of various types—from Satanic occult activity and murders, to cryptids, to physical locations with unexplainable “energies.”

If you were to ask Nathaniel Hawthorne, he might say that mankind was the only real evil lurking in the woods of Freetown-Fall River.  But one theory for why the forest is so riddled with weird phenomena is that it was the site of much brutal fighting and death between early settlers and the native people of the region that took place in the vicinity.  Indeed, violent, bloody massacres and atrocities were carried out by both sides on the land that now covers the forest. Some say that this violent history has infused Freetown-Fall River with an evil force, and has made it the haunt of vengeful spirits screaming for revenge.
