She wants to keep her head down and return to a quiet life with her father, but she's too powerful to ignore (and she also agrees to a magic duel early on and demonstrates her power trying to win it, which seems counterintuitive?). Along the way, she gains friends, allies, and a rival. Political intrigue regarding magic users in this world come to light as the story and world develops, exploring some ideas of following vs resisting authoritative structures.

Harry potter but with more logic and less homophobia.

The exposition for the world building is impressively effortless. Such a self assured debut.

It's very cute with a lot of heart and a surprising amount of political intrigue.
