Labor Radio Podcast Network’s Member Spotlight Series pays homage to radio and podcast producers who are focusing on working class issues.

Maximillian Alvarez is host of Working People, in partnership with In These Times magazine, which is a podcast about working-class lives in 21st-century America. In every episode you’ll hear interviews with workers from around the country, from all walks of life. We’ll talk about their life stories, their jobs, politics, and families, their joys and hopes and frustrations.

Mr. Alvarez is also the Editor in Chief of The Real News network and received his PhD from the University of Michigan.

My takeawayMaximillian Alvarez is a rising star and an important voice for all to hear. This interview for me was both inspiring and informative. We discussed many issues including Maximillian's upbringing in a conservative Catholic Mexican-American family in Southern California that was nearly torn apart from the 2008 Wall Street Banking crash, what academic labor means as he pursued his PhD, the implications of the passing of Proposition 22 on the future of work, how religion and labor struggle must be unified, and why the Labor Radio Podcast Network's "collaborative ethos" is so important to counter the media cartel of the ruling class.I hope you find value in this discussion as much as I did.

About the Labor Radio Podcast Network

The Labor Radio Podcast Network is both a one-stop shop for audiences looking for labor content and a resource for labor broadcasters and podcasters. Resources include a weekly podcast summarizing shows produced by network members, marketing on social media, a website listing network shows and how audiences can find them, a database for contacting expert guests, access to a private listserv for Network members, and a weekly video call to increase solidarity and support amongst members.

Launched in April 2020, the Labor Radio Podcast Network focuses on working class issues that are often overlooked in the corporate-controlled media. The goal of the network is to help raise the voices of working people and strengthen organized labor to demand and achieve better treatment from workplaces and elected officials.
