Today I ENJOy! relaxed chat with Alison Emery from Move with Awarenesses. Over the last decade working as a clinical massage therapist, Alison Emery founder of Move with Awareness came to realise that self-care was the most important component for clients remaining pain-free. While clinical massage can be very effective for relieving chronic pain in the short term, it doesn’t often solve the problem in the long term. This is because chronic pain and muscle stiffness is often caused by postural habits which have accumulated over time in a response to the way we live our lives. We are usually unable to break these habits because we are unaware we are doing them. The brain and nervous system are no longer connecting with the muscles efficiently. Change only occurs when this connection between the brain and muscles is re-established. Somatic Movements help to increase your awareness of how your body moves and feels so that you can regain full conscious control of your muscles and improve your postural habits.
