I'm a great believer of 'everything in life has a lesson - if you look for it'. While I didn't realise it at the time a horrible customer encounter around 1997 taught me everything I needed to know about buyer personas.
Even though the customer made me cry (listen to discover how) I still learnt so much. Unconsciously as a sales assistant I adapted and changed based on this one customer.
There was also an important lesson about leadership and how working with great people can have a massive impact on how you treat other people.
